While there are honorable exceptions, I have to say most atheist/agnostics I encounter fall into the smug but brazenly uninformed and mostly thoughtless category. They have little conception of actual philosophical concepts, no nothing of the theology they reject, and have been exposed to nothing artistic that existed before the 20th century. And history? Fugheddaboutit.
But this doesn't stop them from brashly making all sorts of "bold" claims so they can let folks know how "smart" they are.
