CFTC's Christy Goldsmith Romero to be nominated as FDIC chair
==========
President Joe Biden will nominate Christy Goldsmith Romero to be chair and member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). If confirmed by the Senate, she'll succeed Martin Gruenberg, who will step down after leading for about 10 years in two stints. Goldsmith Romero is currently a Democratic member of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and has been confirmed by the Senate for her current role and a previous role in the Department of Treasury. She was sworn in as a CFTC commissioner in 2022 and previously served as special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Goldsmith Romero has also worked at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and taught courses in securities regulation, cryptocurrency regulation, and federal oversight at Georgetown University Law Center and University of Virginia Law School.
