Quote tweet was a mistake, a feature that actively encouraged negative behavior. People who advocate for it.. don't really understand the problems with it. But they should:

Some of them are merely mean, many are rather uncharitable, and a disappointing number are intentionally misreading the original post. If you, the quote-tweeter, are lucky, you hit a viral threshold, much to the detriment of the person you’ve quoted. When you get a thousand people yelling at you, one or two of them — at least — are going to take it to an extreme place. If you’re a woman or a minority or both, that place is very familiar."
