XC1 wasn't bad but it was very JRPG kill god and uncover the universe type thing while XC2 was a lot more grounded. I do concede that my bias is that I tend to enjoy more contained stories a lot more. XC3 threw in the whole timeline mixing and world overlapping stuff and I just kinda didn't care too much for it. Even the whole between worlds of XC1 and XC2 was wearing novelty, but then it also made the universe *too* open. It's like the multiverse stuff, no real consequences and diminishes a lot of what makes certain things special. PSO2 suffered from this too with the weird time travel story events... like wtf is going on...
