well, it's not just the heat damage but also directing the radiative heat where you are actually needing it, instead of it percolating outside
i never used to understand the use of plain aluminium for reflecting heat before but recent years i have seen it used to remarkable effect
reflection and absorption are the two things you want with heating fixtures... if you can absorb it and have it re-radiate, that's actually the ideal, but if it must be lightweight, reflection is adequate second best
