Few things are more frustrating than installing a new harp string and it snapping immediately 😡
This never used to happen, and now it’s the second time it snapped within a week. Today it was literally instantly, didn’t even get fully wound.
My first reaction was to blame the brand, which is not the one I grew up using, but now I think my technique may be to blame. I use a hemostat to pinch the partially knotted string to its stopper while the winding process fully tightens the knot the rest of the way. I know I’ve done this many times, but I think leaving the hemostat on there during the full winding may be putting too much stress on the string.
I tried again taking it off as soon as I could reasonably do so instead of leaving it there and so far, so good, even through some playing. Let’s see if it holds 🤞
