That would be a verification-first protocol, designed only for developers. I've suggested a validation-first protocol, designed to be written in a human-readable manner.

The Gherkin protocol can be automated to test particular implementations, but the consensus is formed at the human level and it doesn't have to be as detailed and strictly-defined as a verification test. That means that the person or person writing the test can't force changes to the design of your architecture or punish you with a FAIL for a novel implementation.

It's something halfway between a prose spec and a universal verification program. It's a universal validation algorithm.

I'm open to both, but I suspect validation is consensus enough, and it allows non-devs the ability to read the protocol. Only takes an hour or so, to figure out how to read Gherkin, and the Internet is full of great tutorials.
