While I'm sure there is to gain from a social platform not artificially boosting political content to its users, I’m greatly worried about what this announcement from Instagram's CEO means in practice.
What is Instagram's definition of political? Does that include content from LGBT accounts? from activists? from marginalized communities?
When a platform owner such as Meta says they're not going to recommend 'political content', all I'm hearing is “we're going to engage in political erasure.”
