As an avid crocheter I don't think it's creepy. The end result maybe but not the act. She's is not the first teacher to do this. I've seen it before a couple of yrs ago.
Plus it's a thing for these type (amigurumi) of crocheters to give away most of their creations.
Also when my Spanish friend got married her MIL did something similar. She made pins of every wedding attendee's face. I believe that's something traditional there (have to ask)
