Legionella will develop if the temperature is between 20-45 C
68-113 F (neither hot nor cold)

So our "city" water pipes are dug deep enough to keep the water cold enough. Same with private well.

The water heater is where bacteria can start accumulating. Thus we set our heaters to about 60 C 140 F. And that will do it.

Same as laundry, 60 C 140 F will usually be enough to kill most fungi and bacteria.

Even though 90 C 194 F are recommended.
