The timing of the "then they fight you phase" is curious. So they allow tons of full KYC ETFs before making self-custody illegal. Almost all ETF BTC are held by Coinbase.
It was never a question if they would fight back but to allow ETFs and then fight back ... surprises me a bit. Sure enough, every BTC trapped in ETFs won't defy government orders but then what's the point of buying these ETFs if they are just a trap? If free Bitcoin fails, these ETFs will fail, too.
