Even with some hypothetical ultra-amazing AI chip, that's only going to be a distinction between on device and cloud based. Apple makes some amazing hardware, but they're not going to invent anything that fits in a phone that's going to compete with a datacenter. Keeping AI on device isn't leading the market, it's just putting the AI in a particular place.
