That's really what I mean when I say "slow down." It's going to take longer to get to releases, at least at the outset, if you wrote unit tests and manually test new features. But as unit test coverage grows it will help ensure stability as you work on new features.

That's really the only way to ensure stability. You could respond to every bug report, but putting out brush fires like that will just lead to an accumulation of patches that probably break something else, but there's no way of knowing, because with untested code you can't detect those problems.
