What people repeatedly joke about reveals their character. They will tell you that it's not true, you will want to believe that it's not true, but it is true. Lo siento. It's a lesson I've learned the hard way more times than I want to admit.

When someone reveals their character in this way generally our instinct is to want to talk them out of walking down a dark path. And if this is someone you care about it is a good idea to discus it with them. But still, almost certainly, you will need to push them out to a more distant spot on those relationship concentric circles. Sooner or later, in one way or another, having unhealed people in your inner circle will hurt you. I would know.
