my two cents (as an interested bystander) is that in a happy future, new users who onboard onto a system will start their webs of trust and influence with those nodes who they:
- already know personally
- found out about the platform from
- created whatever software(s) they're using to use the platform
- etc.
these are socially and functionally high-value connections that are good for trust bootstrapping.
