TIL this was wrong and I should have checked the math, but it’s early and I haven’t been on the #coffeechain yet.

TIL that the reason the #bitcoin halving takes place during U.S. presidential election years is due to Laszlo Hanyecz and his cohort introducing GPU mining in 2010 and shortening the first halving cycle to 3 years instead of 4 until the difficulty adjustment caught up. Otherwise, halvings would have always taken place in the year following the election.
