Using excellent private money that's easy to use is a weird way to define losing. I've bought plenty of things with it and I look forward to its growing adoption so I can buy more, and so you can seethe about it.
I know exactly how many Monero there are and will be. It uses cryptography to verify the supply is intact, like how Bitcoin uses cryptogrpahy to make sure no one can steal your money. Its assumptions are more significant than Bitcoin's because using money in a private way is a great use case for money that I enjoy having easily by pressing send in my wallet, and not dealing with 40 hoops to set up a Lightning node and manage channels properly.
