This is not a draft, which would require Congress to implement.

Yeah, I don't know... I didn't read '_Electric Sheep' (DADES) until recently.
Philip K. Dick wasn't Gen-X, though. He was born in 1928 (died in 1982).
DADES (written in late 1960s) seemed old-fashioned and somewhat misogynistic, but I have found that many of the sci-fi books written around that time were (like Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land written in 1961...oh my, that was a crazy one to boot).
But DADES seemed to have deep-seated symbolism and meaning, despite its issues.

I read 2 of 5 #books listed in this article: 'The Martian' and 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' and don't agree their films were better.
Both books had different focuses than their #films. For ex, 'The Martian' featured the main character's monologue, providing the reader a deeper understanding of his loneliness & solitary steadfastness in space.
The #movies differed from the books, making them exciting for cinema but not necessarily better.

So, zooming in the video again very closely, it's clear the person that the masked ICE agent killed was pinned down by several ICE agents (who had repeatedly kicked him) when one of the masked ICE agents took out his gun to shoot him.
He was previously trying to help a woman who ICE had pushed to the ground, and it looked like he was desperately trying to get up to help her.
I saw no gun on the man killed.

Per MSNow- the person killed was a 37-year-old white male protester (which the person killed in the video I saw looked like, but I couldn't tell his age).
His only other encounters w/ the law were "a few traffic tickets," and he had a permit to carry a weapon (perfectly allowed in Minnesota).
The #trump admin claims that he was brandishing a weapon, but that is not at all obvious in the video or the other one I saw. He appeared to have only a cell phone out.

Yes and he also appoints the justices in SCOTUS (the reasoning there also is beyond me).
And oh for sure, there are elected individuals, especially in Senate, who have been in office entirely too long. There should be more turnover.
But also, the electoral system (from which having only a two-political party system is thought to be an effect) is a huge issue in the US.

Yes, unfortunately, one person (the US president) has been given far too much power, which left the office ripe for abuse. It's like the US has survived on some sort of honor system for many years, and it was only a matter of time until that was broken.

I hear you. In Norway's case, banks answer to a whole body of *elected* officials, which is also important.
Why the US president appoints people (like the chair and governor board members) to oversight bodies that are supposed to be independent, like the Fed, is beyond me.
It seems it was only a matter of time until someone (like trump) would try to usurp greater power over those supposedly independent bodies.
Re republicanism: It has its flaws, but so does the way the US has run it.

I hear you about free-market capitalism, but trump, esp. in his 2nd term, hasn't been acting like a free-market capitalist.
He has cut 'deals' with certain companies & has seemed to favor certain companies over others.
Further, the Fed, which is supposed to act independently from political influence, plays a significant role in banking industry oversight. It has several working parts & people, not 1 dude who will act on his feelings & political interests concerning monetary policy.

One thing that concerns me greatly is Trump's ambition to basically have control of the Fed, which would give him significant leverage over the US banking industry as a whole.

Also, banks that closed his accounts had clear justification for doing so. He was a serious risk to them at the time.
All of this is twisted. The Trump Admin is twisting the rules, norms, and laws.
It's now what I think of as 'USA2' (when it used to be 'USA1' before him).

And not only that, it is questionable whether federal immigration officers have probable cause to breach people's property detain people.
#ICE officers do not have warrants from judges. In fact, Vance said that they don't need to because they can have "administrative warrants."

His ability to lie & leave out facts is trophy-worthy— like he said that if ICE, DHS, etc. are looking for horrible criminals (like sex offenders), then the state/ local government & law enforcement should help them.
➡️ The problem with that argument is that often no one proved they were sex offenders or other horrible criminals. People are being dragged out of vehicles & houses without due process.

"At least four students under the age of 18 have been detained by immigration agents over the last two weeks"
The children are age 5 & 10 (a different five-year-old than the one in the image in the previous post), and the teens are age 17.
The school district is working with an immigration lawyer to get the students back" and the "sense of safety" is shaken as #ICE roams through the community.

Though a caregiver & known friend of the family offered to take the child, #ICE detained him and asked him to knock on the door of the house "to see if anyone else was home." ICE agents deny they used the five-year-old as bait and VP #Vance said (in a press conference I just watched c/o CNN-I) that they were just trying to keep him out of the freezing temperature.
