Social media was a mistake.
Those things are not produced outside of the US. The US has massive domestic capacity for paper products and similar consumables.

Like anyone needs more evidence of who #JillStein is.

You love to see it. Putin apologist #JillStein has been making a fool of herself lately and cannot seem to admit that Putin is a war criminal nor that Assad is a war criminal.
The other day Jill Stein admitted to not knowing how many members are in the US congress. There are no members of her party in any state or national elected office. She is a professional candidate who reappears every four years and who exists only to pump up her ego and sow discord.

I agree. What is even more striking is that people who during Obama's administration made his use of drones their primary and loud and constant critique of his administration is that they then fell silent when Trump multiplied drone use many fold. And then ignored when Biden ended the drone war and the war in Afghanistan. As I have tallied the total offensive war deaths under Biden both direct and indirect have been less than all US presidents but one in seven decades.

A reminder to those in the US who do not know Trump during his time as president massively increased the US's drone war and this year had his son in law Kushner working with the Israeli far right to plan for a complete ethnic cleansing of Gaza because they want the land.

I would guess they have small text at the bottom of the page that is a legal disclaimer. The problem is that enforcement of this sort of thing takes years which will be long after the election.

Elon Musk is running a fake voter registration website that tricks US voters into thinking they have registered to vote.
I think if anywhere there are #infosec security experts here on Mastodon who know how to confuse and overwhelm Musk's website trickery.

The donation is not to her directly so she cannot accept or reject it. The donation is to a Super PAC which has to be run independently of the campaign and cannot talk to her or her staff.
The Register is not a US based outlet and it is possible they do not know the distinction.

We are not talking about DNC rules. We are talking about US election laws. I do not think US election laws would magically change no matter the circumstances.

Jon I think the difficulty here is there is no objective right answer. There are no ways to do this that will not break some rule or upset some people. So I believe both the grassroots and elected officials in the Democratic party have chosen the path that is most politically viable in that it retains all of Biden's campaign funds and staff and apparatus as only Harris is allowed to keep that.

It is impossible to determine the best candidate at a convention with no voters present. There is the successor picked by the voters in the 2020 general election.

Here is the problem. If you look at who the donors and pundits and insiders who are putting the most pressure on Biden to leave they do not want Harris. Almost none of them are saying to replace Biden with Harris and some have said they will withhold funding unless both Biden and Harris drop out. That is untenable but it is what they are saying.

2024-07-12 21:52:18 GMT

Yes what you say is the problem. There seems to be agreement among the media that Biden will be forced out through magic and then someone will be the unanimous choice to replace him yet nobody can explain how or who.

So many reasons. Legally any other candidate would have to get on 50 state ballots and there is no time. And all the funds raised so far can only be used by Biden or Harris so anyone else would start from zero. And to pass over Harris would be a slight of the highest order and alienate many voters. And on and on.

The only possible candidate is Harris. There is no sign she would do better in a country with various biases.

Long ago someone suggested that if corporations are people according to the US supreme court then we should really treat them as people.
The corporation should be tried in a criminal trial and then sentenced to incarceration. That would mean that the government would control it during the sentence and would appoint its executives and keep its profits.
Shareholders and boards might think twice about CEOs who cut corners if their shares could go to zero.

NYC's murder rate is approximately 5 per 100000. Its COVID deaths have been 397 per 100000.
Updated chart to reflect time as suggested below using data from Statista.

Are there any #PublicHealth people here who are good with estimates and making simple and compelling charts?
Someone might be able to calculate and show what @npub1x3x…qwm0 has been writing about a potential mask ban in New York.
Compare the risk of death from all forms of crime with the risk of death from #COVID at the population level per 100000 people.
Even assuming that masking only prevents some fraction of COVID infections I bet that crime related deaths will be far lower.

What I am not looking for is more of the same of the far left that is easily duped into wraparound horseshoe politics that brings it into alignment with a global far right that seeks to tear down the fragile pluralist democracies of the world and put in place ethnonationalist states. 3/

Biden is not a natural public speaker and this is a weakness for a US president. What is surprising is those who supposedly care about reality and facts on the left and decry the far right's views for being devoid of facts and thinking are often falling into the same trap.
What I think I am searching for in the online left in the Anglosphere is a far left that aims for big changes but recognizes that there is not yet political support for it and that democracies require negotiation. 2/

2024-06-18 17:24:01 GMT

I have been trying to understand why the most vocal members of the US left dislike Biden so much despite him to my surprise being the furthest left in actual actions of any president in the last 50 years if not more.
I think a big part is that Biden does not make people emotionally feel connected to him.
Other US presidents did. Trump intimidated. Obama inspired. Bush commanded. Clinton empathized. Their bases connected with that.

Naive question as a cis straight person. Is it a bad thing that corporations are pandering if that shows the right wing that they are out of the mainstream? It seemed to me that the backpedaling corporations are doing recently about pride is a bad thing because it shows the right wing still has some power in this.
