That so exciting! What type of plum is that? I'm still learning plum varieties - I just realized all the plums on my "plum cocktail" tree are variations on an Italian prune theme.

My poor lawn guy...
Me: Hey, can we turn this section off the lawn into a bed so we can stop mowing down these native plants?
Him: "okay, so let's tear up all this to get rid of the grass..."
Me: nah, just ignore the grass, I don't want to disturb the thimbleberries. They'll crowd out the grass soon enough.
Him: (blink) "You can eat these?"
Me: Yeah! 😄
He understood, and then I convinced him that my sorrel isn't actually a weed. And then I explained what you do with lovage and artichokes. So it was actually a fun conversation, even if my gardening habits are a bit baffling.

Sheep sorrel, self-heal, chickweed, deadnettle, pineapple flowers, wide-leaf or other fun plantains, scarlet pimpernel, etc.

Talking to a friend yesterday: "they got Covid? That seems so last year!"
Me: "The local numbers are going back up. I know three people who are infected with Covid as we speak."
What I wanted to say: "well over a thousand people died from it in the last 4 weeks, this hasn't gone away by any stretch"

It's not even 1:15pm on Saturday and I'm pretty sure I've already overdone it in the garden. But I got a lot of stuff in, so... Maybe I can actually rest, with that off my mind?
I got in a boatload of seeds for various greens, particularly perennial or self-seeding greens. I put in my ozette and huckleberry potatoes (the later is supposed to be low glycemic index? I just got 3, I'm curious what those will be like). I also put in my two artichoke plants, because despite not being as big as I'd like, they seem to be languishing a bit in their nursery pots.
I put a couple of things in that are definitely a month too early, as I wasn't really thinking about it. Hopefully that doesn't doom them. The irony is that it was the two seeds I've been looking for years to find, and they can be a bit challenging to locate. Ugh.
Worst case, what's another year of waiting to find out if there's a variety of zucchini that doesn't taste like wallpaper paste to me.

Another night, another bunny spotting in the garden. He'd gotten under the fence I'd hastily put back up around the veggie bed. I tightened it up a bit, but I suspect I need to do something more permanent/accessible.
I have no idea what he's eating aside from maybe a couple of nasturtium leaves, because everything is looking lush and gorgeous. I guess those 4" of compost are paying off! #gardening

Yay past me! I'm starting to see some potatoes sprouting leaves that look very much like my beloved purple potatoes from my old house. I had a weird feeling that I'd forgotten to bring some with me, and they're no longer available for purchase where I got them. They're a strange variety that will actually prolifically fruit and set seed some years. Plus they have gorgeous purple flowers!

My phone keeps sending me "memories" of photos I took in the yard in previous years. It's making me realize how desperately I need more spring-blooming plants in the yard. But I'll probably have to wait till next fall to get serious about that, at least for bulbs and hellebores. The rest will at least have to wait a few weeks anyway. #gardening

I realized today that I actually put in two separate orders for seeds at this one seed growing place that had ozette potatoes. Which is to say I ordered two sets of ozettes (that have not yet been delivered), two sets of black runner beans (okay, I'm really not sad about that TBH), and a couple other things.
And I think I ordered 3 different kinds of tomatoes. Why did I do that?? I don't like tomatoes! Okay, I kinda like about two different kinds of tomatoes, and these may or may not qualify. Plus I still have seeds from last year from the tomatoes I liked.
Dear gawd, why??
Oh and I went to a plant nursery today and they had...yup, ozette potatoes. So I picked up a couple more.
I've been looking for these damned potatoes for ten years, y'all. I WILL grow them this year, come hell or high water. Please don't actually bring hell or high water though, k?

I tried to get in the garden early yesterday to start getting the last of my unplanted plants from the native plant sale out into the yard. I planted several salal shrublets that had not yet filled out their 4"x4" container, and after inspecting the drain holes of the remaining 15 pots of various things, decided to wait a few weeks till I put out the rest.
So instead I went to the garden center and bought some more plants, because I'm a glutton for punishment or something. But on the plus side, I now have artichoke plants I can put out soon, plus a few other veggie seedlings and seeds.

my chicken coop was under a big leafed maple, and the flowers fell into their run. They thought those inflorescences were the absolute tastiest treat, aside from dried bugs. They'd leap up to catch any caught on the fence.

so glad to see you again! I've missed your commentary and chicken stories!
What's new... I'm now maybe 60% unpacked at my new digs, so it's starting to feel more like a home. Things have gotten quieter and calmer in a good way.

Ugh. I'm really over getting weird messages from the void.
I just got a text message asking if I'm okay from a number that's not in my phone, and the only person I can think of who's lived in that area code is my first ex-husband.
I'm torn between just round-filing the message and blocking the number completely.
