Sad but true: If it comes to appeasement of Putin, Trump can't beat Obama (even if he looks tough on this picture). Don't forget the fact that we are in this situation mostly because of Obama's (and Merkel's) inaction. They did absolutely nothing when Putin annexed Crimea, they were silent when he and his buddy Assad bombed Aleppo to the oblivion. So yes, Trump is a disgrace, and he looks stupid, but in this respect, Obama wasn't any better.

I am not sure what you are talking about. You started to talk about alleged coercive/extortion aspects without backing up your claims with facts or at least a plausible story, while in case of the post-soviet countries pressure was not even necessary. Everyone in his right mind knew (and even the most critical members, still admit) that the membership is a good thing. You might claim that these countries had no alternative, but that is trivial.

You might want to ask him, but you don't have to be an ethics professor to decide which one is worse, diplomacy (which you call coercion or extortion without evidence) of occupation/colonial rule.

I think the point here is that NATO is an alliance (membership is voluntarily) while the 'Eastern-block' was occupation (or Russian colonialism if you like). You simply can't compare the two.
