From a purely capitalist perspective, Elon's recent announcement about SPCX becoming a cell carrier sounds fantastic. More competition and potentially a reduction in the necessity for cell tower infrastructure, which would be a win for efficiency and deflation.
However, if SPCX replaces the entire cell and ISP stack with one satellite network, that sounds like a permission based surveillance nightmare.
I'm not sure how feasible this is but Elon's track record on moon shots is about 80/20 as far as I can remember and I don't think Bezo's blue balls are going to give him a run for his money.

I used to work in a manufacturing plant and the assembly manager was known as a bit of a prick. One day there was an all hands meeting on the plant floor and I was standing next to the maintenance crew when the assembly manager walked up.
One of the maintenance guys said, "Hey look, it's a dick with ears." And everybody laughed.
I still think about that sometimes.

New podcast idea, Bitcoin for NPCs

2026-10-05 00:24:13 GMT

I grew up with essentially free reign of a PC with internet connection starting around age seven. I am grateful for what I learned, but there are a handful of images and videos my young mind might have been better off without.
Having access to a computer was unquestionably positive. Experiences on the early internet were mixed, but cultivated a cyber version of street smarts in me.
I'm wondering how todays parents plan to balance web access for their children. The internet is vastly different now than it was 20 years ago. It's also a challenge to monitor any web access outside the home.
Will you be limiting your childrens access to the internet or giving them free reign? Where do you plan to draw the line and what technical means do you have to set those boundaries?

I went to an investors conference last week and wore different bitcoin shirts the first three or four days. Peter Schiff was there along with Brent Johnson, George Gammon, and Mike Maloney.
There were less than 70 people there so I was definitely the elephant in the room. Schiff couldn't help trashing Bitcoin every time he had the mic, but I kept wearing the shirts. I had lunch with him wearing a bitcoin jersey, but he didn't say anything.
No doubt there were some bright people at the conference, including Schiff. His understanding of economics is aligned with my own, excluding bitcoin. He's beginning to consider creating a "gold backed crypto" possibly with Tether. This would be a smart move for tether, but it'll never work in the longrun. He also said his end goal is to see vendors accepting physical gold. I guess the last 5000 years of market adoption wasn't long enough...
I was respectful to everyone and handed out orange pills upon request, but otherwise just did my own thing. I enjoy hearing different opinions and challenging my own to see if I'm missing anything.
I'm glad I went, but the energy was low. Attendance was down and the gold bug vision of the future is a dark one. That's the dividing line between holding gold and holding bitcoin.
Buying gold is insurance against civilization. Buying Bitcoin is a bet on humanity, the energy grid, and the internet.
I have around 1% in physical gold. Less in silver, but enough to buy groceries in an extended power outage + guns to keep my silver. Mike is currently working on a farm, which will probably be my next large investment, beyond networking with local food producers.

2026-09-25 13:40:49 GMT

I met Mike Maloney last week. He's well known in the gold bug circuit.
He told me he was DCAing 4BTC per week at one point, but has since sold all his BTC for HBAR.
I didn't know much about hashgraph so I looked into it. It's not a blockchain, runs PoS on 39 permissoned nodes that are run by some of the largest companies on earth. I asked him how he made the leap from BTC to that as a gold and silver guy.
He started pulling out Roger Ver arguments, all of which were either misquoted or flat out incorrect. He told me to read his book.
I told him I was well aware of Roger and that I thought he was a charlatan. I also told him that HBAR is basically a CBDC and that he needs to be careful talking about it with such a large following.
I hit him pretty hard, but I kept it respectful and let him maintain his dignity. I suggested reading The Bitcoin Standard and he may not do that, but I imagine he'll think twice before shilling HBAR or Ver's talking points again.
It's wild to see how online narratives play out irl.

2026-09-25 13:10:50 GMT

Interesting to see major issues surfacing in the bond market and everyone is going about business as usual.
It took me many years of podcasts to even grasp the elementary machanics of bonds so it's not surprising people aren't talking about it, but it looks bad.

Any idea how I can fix this? Downloaded the most recent version from zapstore.

2026-09-21 13:29:33 GMT

After many years trying to accurately define Bitcoin I have landed upon the following:
Bitcoin is a collection of vibes.

2026-09-21 13:21:10 GMT

GM,
I took two months off as an experiment to see how it would feel. Nostr is the only thing on my phone that consistently generates new content so I found my screen pretty boring, which had it's benefits... I definitely got more writing done.
At one point, maybe two weeks ago, I noticed that nobody around me was talking about nostr. I began to wonder if it has any future or if any notable adoption would happen. Maybe nostr was a flash in the pan... I sat with that for about a week.
Maybe it's true, but I also couldn't stop thinking about it and I missed being here. A couple of days ago my two months was almost up and I COULDN'T WAIT to hop back on, but I did because I committed to it.
Many pent up notes to follow 🤙

2026-07-21 17:06:14 GMT

I've decided to take a two month break from the nostr.

Hey Kate, I appreciate the enthusiasm! I will warn you about working in bitcoin though. Any podcaster or bitcoin company will tell you, the income fluctuates with the bitcoin price. So if you have a lot of your net worth in bitcoin, tying your income to bitcoin as well can be jarring.
That being said there are lots of ways to help that may not require full time work. Creating educational short form content is still pretty niche. Only a few people are doing that well.
We could also use a lot of help on app UX and branding imo. Especially for the private open source apps. If you attend conferences and meetups and talk to people you might be surprised what kind of jobs pop up as well.
Doing something like setting up a booth at a farmers market and selling graphene OS phones is one thing I've considered. In the end though, whatever you do that adds value to the market and allows you to save excess value in bitcoin is helpful. I think a nice dose of NGU will fix a lot of these problems, so reducing the circulating supply is still a big contribution 🤙
