Sometimes I do, yes. I occasionally have to. It depends on which ideas come to me first, or how the process is going at the moment. However, I will add this as well: it depends on the WIP. Every project is different, so there's no proper way for me to decide how the arrangement will go, how things will be written, etc. It's different every time.

I would *never* tell them who I was, but yes, I'd love to meet Eleanor and Alistair. He's a kind man, in every sense of the phrase, and he embodies humanity. That's rather ironic, really, considering he's not even human (AKA a mortal). He's imperfect but he cares for others, and he always tries to do right by his friends, servants, and the locals in Moray. He's made mistakes in his past, but he never lets them hold him back or define him. As for Eleanor, she's the sort of woman I'd love to have as a friend. She's strong, the motherly type, and won't take any shite from the scary vampires in her life. We all need an Eleanor in our life.

My country is at war, things on the homefront are just as bad, and everything feels wrong, but there's nothing I can do about it, so I'm gonna sit my arse down, watching some Doctor Who, drink that cup of tea with a bit of sugar that I usually deny myself because of the calories, and relax for a while. I might even read or write. It's snowing outside, so it's not like I can even go for a mind-cleansing walk. That's all. Because self-care in the immediate future will help bolster you for the long-term. Little things matter just as much as the big ones.
My neighbor was talking about his run-in with the frozen water Gestapo, and I proceeded to tell him about what happened to me last week or whenever it was, because time has zero meaning to me anymore, and that was a whole bunch of trauma and terror coming back again. Let's forget about that for a while, shall we?
Yeah, I'm gonna make that sweet cup of tea, read or write, maybe watch some Doctor Who, and quiet my mind for a while. Give me some peace.

#WordWeavers 2.25 — How is light created in your book? Candles, electricity, magic, or what?
The year is 1890. Oil lamps were common in homes, often made of brass or glass, and were used for functional lighting. Gas lighting was also prevalent, with the introduction of gas lamps in homes, marking a significant shift from candlelight to gas.
The transition to electric lighting was still in its early stages, with only a few homes equipped with electric lights. (Also of note, of course, Alistair's castle doesn't have electricity.)
Overall, though, the lighting was a mix of traditional and emerging technologies, with gas and oil lamps being the most common sources of light. It's pretty easy.

I need to ramble about something for a minute.
As a medium, I experience a lot of things in dreams. Some of the most visceral paranormal interactions and encounters I have are during sleep paralysis episodes as well. So, I just fell back asleep because bowling was canceled this morning due to the mound of snow we got on top of the blizzard the other day. I was asleep for an hour and a half. I would have been awake 45 minutes ago, but I was trying to shake myself from a sleep paralysis episode.
While I was trying to wake myself up, because my eyes were half open, I felt something lay beside me, then later on my chest. Not in a bad way, not something scary, but I could just barely make out a little black cat. It was my Esmeralda. So, I have a lot of questions about that. Did she just come and visit me because she was worried about me? Did she try to wake me up? Because I woke up right after I felt that weight on my chest. It worked.
I feel sick to my stomach now, a bit emotional, and I'm kinda still shaking from the sleepy paralysis episode as well. It's never fun.

#WritersCoffeeClub 2.21 — Share an unexpected critique you’ve received. Why did it surprise you?
This is a *really* good prompt, but I can't think of anything in particular to write in response. I will say that I've had so much help from friends here on Mastodon in our writing community. Every little bit helps. However, I can't think of anything super surprising or unexpected. Whenever I've received a bit of help with that kind of thing, whenever I've gotten some critiques, it's because I've asked for it.
Edit: Something finally came to mind. Someone told me that I should change the way I write, but she didn't understand that the POV I use is actually a thing. She was very critical and confused. It actually almost had me changing the way I write. This happened years ago but it still kind of sticks with me, sometimes.
I enjoy writing either of these:
Third Person Omniscient POV: The narrator has full knowledge of all characters' thoughts, feelings, and the story's past and future, enabling a god-like perspective. While less common in modern novels, it is used in classic literature and genres requiring a broad narrative scope.
Multiple POVs: Involves shifting between different characters' perspectives, often across chapters or scenes. This approach allows for a broader story scope and deeper character development but requires careful structuring to avoid “head-hopping” and maintain reader clarity.

Fantastic question. Let me list a few of the tropes.
• Second-Chance Romance: Two former lovers reconnect after a long separation and have another chance at love. Here Fenella and Alistair have a chance to try again.
• Lovers to Friends to Lovers: This goes along with the above trope, of course.
• Fake Dating/Relationship: Our two characters pretend to be in a relationship for convenience, only to fall in love (or back in love again). Fenella and Alistair have to pretend to be back together for her sake.
• First Love: They're vampires, older than you could ever know, and he's never loved anyone else, only Fenella.
• Grumpy Old Men: This one is self-explanatory, and it perfectly describes our dear Alistair.

Alistair (in my mind, anyway) has a very specific face-claim. It's #PeterCapaldi. I'll need to mention his features and stuff, then I'll get to the eyes.
Alistair's face: I see hawkish features, laugh lines and wrinkles, kind eyes, soft expressions, and curls that are graying yet still brown at the nape of his neck. When he's in a dark mood, on the rare occasion, his expressions are pure stone and even harder to read. The eyes will match.
Alistair's eyes: His eyes are interesting. All vampires have varying shades of color depending on their mood.
When relaxed, when they're a soft, pale green. Here: "His irises were a washed green, as if the color had been stirred with smoke and sunlight." Or this one: "His eyes were green pools, edged with shadows that made you wonder what he’d seen."
When angry, they're a thunderous, crackling silver or gray. Here: "His gaze was smoke, soft but dangerous, curling into every space you left unguarded." Or even this one: "He blinked, and it was thunder held back, a promise of something breaking open."

Oooh, let's talk about #TheCityOfOpulence here, from the #DigitalDystopiaSeries. Every single thing about the setting where this series takes place surprised me, especially in the first story, which I eventually have to finish posting on AO3. Everything about it came as a shock. It developed as the story grew and blossomed. Things changed. Areas became bigger. Business came to be. Battlegrounds made themselves known. This entire setting came from a homebrew (original) #TTRPG I ran, something #cyberpunk and dystopian for my players, and that's also where my characters came from. They were NPCs that I created. As I began writing the story itself, attempting a novel that slowly became a series, things only grew all the bigger. I love love love this setting to death. Ethera is a beautiful, terrifying city. Citune is a gorgeous planet with tons of lore. This is my favorite setting I've *ever* created, hands down.

Alistair is easy to pin... Mortals AKA humans without a set of morals. Vampires without morals. Werewolves without morals. You get the gist. Everyone needs principles that include fairness, respect, empathy, responsibility, and honesty. They need beliefs and standards that guide their behavior by distinguishing right from wrong. We know it’s often influenced by culture, religion, and upbringing, but it’s still a sense of right and wrong. Those who don’t have that capacity and couldn’t care less (like Duncan) will never be among those who *deserve* to live.

I think they just overestimated the issue because they didn't really know what they were talking about. The year is 1890, and this story takes place in Moray, Scotland. It's the perfect spot in Scotland for a paranormal romance to take place. How could I *not* choose it? It's such a beautiful area. Sprinkle in supernatural/paranormal creatures, of course, and that's the premise.

#WritersCoffeeClub 2.10 — Talk about a work which subverted your expectations, in a good way.
This one's giving me a tough time of things. I do one of two things, either go into a book without expectations, or I'm drawn to something that everyone's talking about (and they seem to adore) and I genuinely end up loving it as well. So, that doesn't help. In general, I try not to get my hopes up or to have expectations.

He’s never been proud of who he is, or what sort of creature he is. I will add, however, that Fenella *is* proud of him, as is Hati as well. While he views himself as a villain, they never have. He’s a hero (but an imperfect one) to them in many ways.

Not really. I never overdo the "telling" part, though, but maybe that's just because my writing style is a bit different. You can do both in moderation without giving away too much. As an author, we're "telling" the story.

Some of them would. Others not so much.
Alistair has slept in far worse places than a tent. That would be no problem for him. Also, he enjoys the outdoors. Fenella would say fuck that right off the bat. Hati and Sam would probably enjoy it as well. Hati is down to try anything. She’s spontaneous that way. Caden, however, is the one I’m not so sure about. I’m leaning towards no. He would probably hate it and miss his flat (and business).

Hati: I have two answers here. Either Fenella or Duncan. Don’t piss that lass off. Fenella is a feisty one. And it would have to be something hard. Maybe an apple. They hurt like hell. I could imagine her lobbing it right at Alistair’s back if he said the wrong thing at the worst time. As for Duncan, he’s just a petty bastard. Who can say why he’d do it, or what he would reach for first. It depends on what’s around the room, I suppose.

Good morning, by the way. My Aunt Laurie is in surgery now. Fingers crossed. Without going into detail, she had a full reconstruction surgery and there's a bit of scar tissue that needs to be fixed (yet again), but the team of nurses and her surgeon take very good care of her. She's close to them at this point.

Alistair and his writing. He knows he’s a good author, but not in the cocky and arrogant sort of way, and he’s proud of what he’s accomplished thus far in his writing career, even if he’s had to use a few different pen names along the way so no one will guess who or what he is. I’ll also throw his art into the mix as well. He loves to paint.

The doctor ran tests, did an x-ray, and then did an ultrasound. She told us to bring her home and enjoy the last few days with her, and gave us some new meds to help her feel better.
Long story short, there's a medication that she's on that could cause fluid buildup. It was a one in a million chance, but it happened to my baby. She has fluid in her lungs and in her belly. We'll be bringing her back to the vet tomorrow or Wednesday.

On another note, and I'll make this very brief because I've been an emotional mess, Monday morning is the time to call the vet. Esmeralda took a turn for the worse. She isn't doing okay. It's probably time to say goodbye. Labored breathing, pudgier tummy (could be cancer, if that's what she has), being uncomfortable and lethargic, not having an appetite, lungs sound weird, etc. I can't stand the sight of my little baby obviously in distress and pain, but my vet's office isn't open on the weekends. It's been hell.
