Last Notes npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro We are getting a Geyser Fund set up. Hopefully I can get it set up so that I am posting hotel content more regularly ❤️ https://image.nostr.build/5f5051ae5680a88b81818c7eb8649824c2172f31bcc91d051224ae288af8364b.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro I need to check this out! Thank you for sharing! npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro It seems like so long ago he was sleeping in this space. But these videos are always such a good reminder of where we started with this project. The room full of empty tins and dusty baskets was a satisfying project to take on. Very little needed to be done to make it into a functional temporary space in the hotel while we were working on restoration in other parts. https://video.nostr.build/8fa36e9bf746e441bd38abf1729864b9a92df411ff7a874ead02691d319c1d43.mp4 npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro I wish someone had told me earlier to document everything. When you are doing a big remodel or restoration project it is a great idea to keep detailed records to help track progress and costs. It can also be a resource for the next person coming in after you. We have come across some surprises while working on this project. Doors covered up. Walls added in where there weren’t any before. I am starting to keep records. I always like to have appliance model #s to help with troubleshooting and repairs. Some other things I keep track of is paint colors, tile and flooring info, curtains/blinds. Its nice having this information on hand if you need to repair or replace something in your home. What is a lesson you wish you had learned earlier or what do you wish someone had told you? Comment below! I’d love to hear! https://image.nostr.build/107c79537a06ac83437a039d5ecef9e0479e0b28a5a3ecab60de5bd877ee6853.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro Sorry Portland we just can't help ourselves. https://image.nostr.build/406d721dce0e46554c279a9b718651081c3c6776f59bd9c2f8a560cb7ff423e0.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro Welcome Rya! I am trying to get more consistent about coming to NOSTR rather that the other places. My life is pretty much consumed by building DIY, and I also love watercolor, crafting, and house plants. This summer I am adding a cut flower garden which will be a new adventure for me. npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro Looks great! I don;t know how I survived so long without it. I have used a few different ones and my favorite so far is my Ryobi AirStrike. Its rechargeable and also doesn’t need an air compressor! This makes it really handy for hauling it all over the hotel when I need it for a quick project. Share with me in the comments your favorite DIY tool and why it is at the top of your list. https://image.nostr.build/568f5ae51fb3b18000a1a7a92ef0d27968993c735d2f14ec5a596fd71ac1b62c.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I SEE PEOPLE MAKE WHEN IT COMES TO picking paint colors is not learning how the colors will behave in different lighting conditions. Even a “neutral” color like gray can come in a variety of shades and many surprising undertones. The most common undertones for gray are green, blue, and even purple! So while you think you can just go and grab a nice neutral gray you may be shocked when you start painting and they color is a lot different than what you thought you were seeing on the paint chip. That is why I recommend starting your color search process by visiting a site like [https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/](https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/ "smartCard-inline") to see how the colors you are looking at may behave in the lighting scenario you have in your space. I have used this website so many times to start my color search and the recommendations for me have always been amazing. I recently used it to pick the white I will be using for my ceiling paint throughout the hotel. Was this helpful at all? What is the biggest painting flop you have had on a project? https://cdn.nostr.build/i/93589f73b14ae87f68a8a873bb5f7764af8aa8aa9f506122e362d666b05c0271.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro The FIRST 3 STEPS YOU MUST TAKE WHEN STARTING YOUR renovation project. Step One: Pick a project that you really want or need done and decide on a reasonable budget. Deciding on a budget will be different for everyone based on what you can afford and if need be how creative you can be with materials. If you have a big project, work on it in bite-sized pieces to avoid overwhelm and burnout. Step Two: Based on your budget, gather all the materials you will need for your project. Will you need tools? Can you find a place to borrow or rent the tools needed? I love to repurpose, get items on sale, and take advantage of resale shops to keep costs low. Step Three: Get to work! Depending on what and where your project is, you may want to protect your space to keep finished areas from getting damaged on needing extensive cleaning (ask me how I know). Here are additional resources that I found useful! -Kylie M Interiors webpage has a lot of great info about choosing paint colors! -Pinterest, Instagram, and Google Image for project inspiration -Habitat for Humanity Restore, Goodwill, Saint Vincent de Paul, and antique stores for used items If you want help, encouragement, additional resources, or want to ask me more about my journey I’d love to connect with you! If you are on a similar journey, what would you add? Do you have any favorite resources not listed? https://cdn.nostr.build/i/dff8bf7bfbe90a037ab508cee2b71dec3f9e148bf1aab7bcb4d29de44046b01c.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro THE BIGGEST MYTH ABOUT POWER TOOLS is that they are complicated. Some people share with me that they are so intimidated by power tools. This seems to be very common among my women friends. HERE IS THE TRUTH: While power tools can be dangerous if used incorrectly it is very easy to learn how to use them and get comfortable using them very quickly. So many things can be learned through the internet! Google and YouTube have become my best friends while working on our renovation project. What is even better is you probably have a friend, family member or a neighbor that could give you some hands on help learning how to use the tool. I has been so good for my confidence to learn such a variety of tools and know that most things are figureoutable if you really want to learn. Go tackle that project you have been wanting to do, I will be here waiting to cheer you on. Did you once believe this myth? What are other myths you have heard in relation to DIY projects? Share below! https://cdn.nostr.build/i/a53c701c4b790c4d822a33da8ab72c6f96a6cd207e7e02e9f002d8324c0293a9.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro I wish someone had told me earlier that it would be so hard to get our electrical upgrade on the building completed. When we first bought the building we had a big union shop give us a bid on how much it would cost us to do the upgrade. We had the funds to do it, but we really wanted to have a smaller, local business see if they could do the project. After months of this process dragging on we went to the next electrician, and then the next one. Each one telling us that they would do the project and it wasn’t too much for them to handle. We are now 2.5 years in to this project and still waiting on our upgrade. If you asked me what I would do differently it would be, go with the first dang shop that actually sent someone out right away and got a bid turned around quickly. It would have been higher than other options at the time, but now the costs on the project have more than doubled with the way everything is going now. It did teach us a valuable lesson though. We now get things scheduled as soon as we know we need or want something done, and we also ask other locals or business owners for recommendations. It is so important to figure out who you like to work with and build great working relationships with them. What is a lesson you wish you had learned earlier or what do you wish someone had told you? Comment below! I’d love to hear! https://cdn.nostr.build/i/a0bbc6f2e0e32458dc6409c47d007326ed239442b8a8e14416fffde8052429ea.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro Graffiti on the sidewalk https://nostr.build/i/46d8bd147cd471c531652a7f9b13cbb9ebe3fc79d7898b41c7b156b5e3555029.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro The salsa label designed by my daughter this week 😆 https://nostr.build/i/9bf5ab94b8271a90e0b3cf2253999a8023d3e51f2042b3adf035920fdec07350.jpg npub1qjdyreqpqzyhm9kmkqdkzqtm6p53lrynmam4n6trg9h7cnpcyl8snu4ayw Life at Hotel Moro I wish someone had told me these DIY secrets earlier! 1. Patience is a virtue: DIY projects can be exciting, but rushing through them often leads to subpar results. Take your time, follow the instructions, and enjoy the process. The end result will be worth the wait! 2. Don't be afraid to ask for help: DIY doesn't mean you have to do it all alone. Reach out to friends, family, or online communities for advice, tips, and inspiration. You'll be amazed by the wealth of knowledge and support available. 3. Safety first: Always prioritize safety when working on DIY projects. Wear protective gear, use the right tools for the job, and follow proper safety procedures. Your well-being is worth the extra precautions. 4. Embrace imperfections: DIY projects may not always turn out exactly as planned, and that's okay! Embrace the imperfections and view them as unique touches that make your project one-of-a-kind. 5. Measure twice, cut once: Accuracy is key when it comes to DIY projects. Take the time to measure and double-check your measurements before making any cuts. It will save you from costly mistakes and frustration down the road. (not really a secret and for me it usually is double check your math 😆) I hope these tips help you on your DIY journey!
