Public nodes should have never taken off in Bitcoin. A supposed 100 million people “own” BTC, yet only 100k of them interact with the network without trusted third parties. That’s a terrible trade-off. Literally the second sentence of the white paper warns against it.
If you don’t have 2 TB to spare for a full node, or don’t want to commit to running a server 24/7, a pruned node on your laptop is magnitudes better than a public node.
All you need is 40 GB of free disk space to get through the IBD, and then you can prune it down to around 4 GB. That’s the equivalent of an HD movie.
Just open any AI. If you’re on a Mac, open Terminal. If you’re on Windows, open PowerShell as administrator. Ask the clanker for the commands to run a pruned Knots node, give it the official website, and start copy-pasting. The AI will guide you through the entire process: downloading, syncing, verifying PGP keys, creating a GUI on your desktop, configuring the node to start automatically, connecting to your wallet, everything.
You can be a complete technical bozo and still pull this off in an hour or two. Just try it.

Facts. I’d go even further: BTC has no probability of success. This opportunity was lost on 8/8/26. It’s the date on which Bitcoiners failed Satoshi, and probably every future generation for many many years.

That was me a month ago. Now I’m pretty excited about it.
Our chain has adopted BIP-110 plus a temporary 300KB block size decrease. Mining is already magnitudes more decentralised than on Suitcoin.
I wish BIP-110 had been adopted on BTC too, but ignoring it has actually exposed just how bad things really were. Nodes stopped mattering around 2015, and we’re only realising it now. The 2017 Independence Day was really a psyop.

Selling bitcoin to cover mining costs is opaque. You sell fiat to cover the electricity bill and get rewarded with harder money.
People who have to sell their bitcoin to cover mining costs are doing essentially two things: putting downward pressure on the price, thereby hurting their own bottom line; and, most likely, scaling their operations with debt, which makes the whole thing even worse.
You essentially become a dirty speculator who is simply hoping for NGU to squeeze out 3% net profit, until a sudden sell-off hits, you get margin called, and eventually end up broke or bankrupt.
That kind of “mining” looks a hell of a lot more like day trading. With leverage.
This is why I support the 1-year coinbase maturity extension. It basically says: if you want to mine, you must be willing to hold.

Suitcoin is a joke and quite ironically all the nutty uncle fudsters and gold bugs turned out to be “right” about it. It’s decentralised in name only, just as any other shitcoin. Once you learn how to install and run apps and processes by asking AI and copy/pasting a few commands into Terminal/PowerShell, you’ll never want to do things the old way again (waiting for some App Store to post or whitelist a download link).
You can download and compile pretty much anything from GitHub, verify PGP signatures, and make your own custom settings. And AI makes all of this accessible now.
You can be a non-technical power user without paying someone else a dime to teach you. Wild times.

Also I failed to mention that after you see your XBT coins in Shrike, you need to do a self send consolidation in the same wallet so that you get replay protection. Once you do that, it will be safe to move your BTC to another seed. It will no longer be tied to Bitcoin on Blake2b.

Nope, in the Knots discord there are guides how to recover the funds.

2026-10-02 17:02:35 GMT

You need to export your seed words from your hardware wallet to a new hot wallet in Shrike, then connect your Knots node to it and then you’ll see them. But before doing this, be ready to send your BTC to another hardware wallet, because once you export it in Shrike, your BTC setup will become a hot wallet and won’t qualify as cold storage. Unless you’re using a Trezor, a Seedsigner or ColdCard.

See the second and third post of his in the same chain thread.
Things are going pretty well actually. Maybe you haven’t paid any attention. Alphapool stopped his attack and started cooperating. A few shitcoin miners abandoned mining after the SF (about 1.5 PH/s, which is nothing). Block construction looks better than before the soft fork and consensus is gathering for extending the maturity to 1 year. Basically all of the optimistic expectations for the fork matherialised. So I don’t see what isn’t going well tbh.

What’s the point of having all these builders if everything they’re building is ultimately inconsequential, backdoored, or surveilled? What’s the point of having a protocol where five mining nodes can ignore or veto the will of the network? Do you ever ask yourself these questions?

The sad thing is that Bitcoin is never going to make it to your phone as long as it remains dependent on the fiat gatekeepers now ruling unchallenged on SHA-256. There are plenty of reasons why I don’t see that happening there, but these are probably the biggest ones:
1. The chain is growing too fast, especially thanks to blowing up OP_RETURN. Phone hardware simply won’t be able to keep up with the memory requirements.
2. Nobody left on SHA-256, at least nobody that matters, seems to think Bitcoin is actually supposed to be money. To them, Bitcoin can be anything else, just not money.
3. Development on SHA-256 is highly centralised and tightly controlled. You’re not going to get the support or funding for genuinely groundbreaking designs. The most consequential engineering achievement in the past nine years was DATUM, and the entire industry pretends it doesn’t exist.
There are plenty of other reasons why I don’t think SHA-256 Bitcoin will ever run on phones. But these three should already tell you where this is heading.

The only part I disagree with here is that 20% wasn’t a big enough percentage of all the nodes for effective enforcement. The way the fork was ignored by all the big pools, without anyone committing to a URSF, showed that any percentage wouldn’t have been enough. The opposition would simply need to pool a few million dollars behind closed doors as insurance for the miners, guaranteeing that they wouldn’t have to fear any meaningful network repercussions or loss of PoW. They could then spend more money spinning up fake nodes and lobbying the pools, and the outcome would have been exactly the same.
You can’t defend the network with nodes alone if mining is centralised. That was the lesson from 110, and that’s why we are on a different chain.

Brother, you really drove the point home with the intro. I no longer recommend investing in SHA-256 Bitcoin, and I advise most of my friends to slowly divest from it. My reasons are the same as yours.
Our opponents were deeply intertwined with the mining cartel, and they knew pretty early on that BIP-110 would be ignored because it was being worked through the back channels.
But I disagree that the fork failed. It not only exposed the cancer plaguing this chain, but also showed how deeply it has metastasised. Some naive people over there didn’t get the message, but I think the next cycle will quite possibly make the reality impossible to ignore anymore.
One note on the Blake2b node counts (I’m one of those node runners too): the numbers are not a fraction of 1% of the Knots numbers. There are already about 5,000 listening and non-listening nodes, and they’re increasing every day, just like the hashrate on our chain.
And the energy in this community is quite different compared to SHA-256. The lifeboat is being built as we speak.
Bitcoin is dead. Long live Bitcoin. ✊🏻

The guide is ready. Before you try it, a few disclaimers:
1. I’m not a technical guy, so take the instructions with a grain of salt. There is a real risk of making a mistake and losing your sats, especially if you’re doing this for the first time. Start with a small amount that you can afford to lose and make sure you understand each step before moving on. Do not try to split your whole stack on your first attempt.
2. This is probably not the best way to split your coins, but it’s how I did it. It works.
3. Do not rush the process. I’ve tried my best to make it as simple as possible to follow, preserve your progress, and retrace your steps if needed.
Any suggestions for improving the guide for plebs are welcome.
