Jurors have reached a verdict for 9 defendants regarding the Prairieland Detention Center noise demonstration in Texas.
This case marks the first time the government has filed terrorism charges against “Antifa." Legal experts have been raising alarms over prosecutors’ theory — arguing defendants, including some who were not even at the demonstration, are part of an organized criminal “Antifa cell” and broader conspiracy.
The first charges in the Prairieland case were filed weeks after the Trump administration designated antifa as a domestic terror group last September.

Antisemitic, Islamophobic, self proclaimed Nazi Edward Jacob "Jake" Lang showed up with a very small group in Minneapolis today. They were vastly outnumbered by at least a few hundred antifascists chanting him down to the point his hate speech was not heard. After failing to make their way into a closed City Hall and getting stuck in window recess, they got chased out by hundreds of people.
His “crusade march” didn’t happen because of the community response, and he was unable to burn a Quran like he had planned.
His plate carrier was left behind after he escaped by running through a hotel and leaving out the back before jumping into a car. In multiple shots he appears to be covered in water, snow, and even had blood dripping down the back of his neck.

The day of the shootings, DHS made a post to justify this violence by claiming that the driver “weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents,” but now, the claim is the driver backed in to an unoccupied vehicle.

Regarding the two people that CBP shot in Portland, Oregon on Thursday:
The man driving the vehicle is currently in FBI custody after being treated for gunshot wounds to the arm and abdomen. The woman in the car with him who was shot in the chest has already been transported to the ICE detention center in Tacoma, Washington.
In court documents made public earlier today, the FBI claims that it found no surveillance or other footage of Border Patrol wounding these two people. CBP also told the FBI that they shot them after the driver allegedly backed up into an unoccupied vehicle they had rented. Conveniently, none of the six agents present when this happened were recording on their body cameras either.

With the escalation (and more frequently documented) of violence by ICE and CBP, I'm glad more people are speaking out about the police exchange programs between US law enforcement and Israel. They share tactics on repression, discrimination, surveillance, profiling, kidnapping, and violence of all sorts for militarized policing.
I think it is important however that we remember this started here with slave patrols. The police exchange programs go both ways.

a few winters ago in Oregon the electricity went out. Some grocery stores had to empty their fridges and dispose of perfectly good food, most of which was sealed and in containers. People arrived to collect food for themselves and gather food to distribute to the houseless community and anyone who needed anything. The police showed up, got violent with people and then stood in front of the dumpsters to guard them to make sure no would take anything the stores had trashed.

A Ribbit Rave is happening down at ICE in pdx where an inflatable “frog brigade” said they would be premiering a new dance. A group of folks interrupted, chanting “why are you dancing” and saying that ICE just murdered someone and CBP shot two people locally. “Why are you choreographing this bullshit while people are being kidnapped,” someone shouted.

Border Patrol has shot two people in Oregon close to portland not long ago. The shooting occurred near East Burnside and 141st Avenue. Federal agents shot and killed a community member who was observing an ICE raid in Minneapolis this morning. Reports that she was shot in the face multiple times. On the ground reports that feds refused access for medical assistance and physicians who were otg attempting to administer aid and check her pulse.
In the videos of the shooting circulating social media, it is clear she was attempting to drive away. She posed no threat to agents or anyone else. This was cold blooded murder. DHS is already lying about the murder and attempting to justify their actions.

downtown- sheesh shawarma (food truck on PSU campus right behind the library) has the closest thing to an authentic shawarma in pdx. I recommend chicken shawarma with extra pickles (they use the proper kind of pickles and it makes a big difference)… it’s simple like it should be. Wish the sauce was strictly toum but it’s still good as fuck.
Restaurant hands down Aladdin’s cafe in NE portland. It’s a very unassuming spot that shares a building with a neighborhood corner store. Owned by a Syrian family and has the best Arabic food in town. Very authentic. Only edible hummus in town in my opinion. If you like spicy ask for the spicy hummus it’s incredible. Lots of good dishes but the shawarma chicken plate is amazing. All of their maza/appetizers are also to die for. Baba ghanoush is delicious there. And their bread is made fresh. Can’t go wrong really. I also don’t eat lamb but people who do enjoy it rave about theirs.

yes wara2 3ineb/grape leaves is the dark green one. Dinner version, not vegetarian. And for vegetarian and non vegetarian we make ours a little different with both sauce and stuffing. (We don’t put garbanzo beans in our vegetarian ones).
The other lighter colored one is called malfoof which is stuffed cabbage rolled up. Filled with seasoned rice, ground beef and garlic (minced and full cloves) cooked in a lemon/olive oil broth with lots of spices, garlic and mint.
Same stuffing for both and sauce/broth is almost the same just a few tweaks. Less or no mint in the grape leaves, ribs added to the pot they’re cooked in, and it’s topped off with garlic fried with cilantro

ooh ok so this recipe is more like the breakfast version of fatteh (which could be made for any meal because it is quite filling but it is a bit different).
Chickpeas with breakfast fatteh is definitely the way (if you ever want to try that one I have a better recipe for you and it’s even easier to make than this one)... for this meal though with rice, I think maybe tofu would be better for vegetarian? I've never had it like this, but as far as flavor and texture goes I think maybe cut into thinner pieces and fried (or prepared so it's a little crispy on the outside/has a bite) would be really good.
We also use the chicken stock from the chicken in this recipe to cook the rice, which adds a lot of flavor. So I would find a really rich umami veggie stock, or at least season the rice well.
Would also recommend either skipping the tahini altogether, or if you want to use it just adding the tiniest bit. A drizzle at most.
For the fried Syrian bread, it’s usually layered on bottom for breakfast version but on the top for the dinner version. (Though I always do the top because the crunch really elevates the dish imo).
The browned butter and nuts on top is also key. Pine nuts are expensive as hell where I am, a great substitute is slivered almonds. Or you can pan fry a mixture of the two which we also often do. If you can add even a little bit of pine nuts though I recommend doing so because they have such a unique flavor. You can use butter, or olive oil, or even a mix of the two to do this. You want this to be the very last step. Make sure the dish is already assembled an then immediately pour it over. The sizzle is satisfying and it warms everything up a bit.
