When a bank lends out it's clients savings to a business that's going to pay back the loan with interest, it is not running a fractional reserve ponzi.
It just means that the clients will have to wait some time to have access to their savings. In exchange they get paid interest on their deposits.

It obvious that not everyone can run a lightning node and the vast majority will have to rely on some form of custodial wallet operator like chivo or wos that are probably running on fractional reserve already whithout any control.
Regulating and auditing a bank's fractional reserve with a system like lnbits is easy and should be made transparent so that the customers can evaluate the risk/profit profil of the different service provides and be free to choose accordingly.

Banks are useful to society for financing business projects and taking on the risks of lending money.
Their tokens (taproot assets) could be issued as e-cash. On your ecash wallet you could have multiple tokens, exchangeable and convertible to sats, from different banks and earn interest or just hodl the sats if you don't care financing the economy.
The problem is the central banks, not the private ones. To seperate government and money, it's the central banks that must be removed.

With Lnbits you can see the fractional reserve ratio, meaning the bank/node can issu more sats than available in it's lightning channels which may seem like a drawback.
But if a private bank issues it own currency/token as a taproot asset on lightning who's price is pegged to the reserves in it's channels, then it can lend out it's customers btc at an interest rate. When the loans pay off the token pumps and if the bank does bad loans, then the token dumps.
It's back to traditional banking as before the invention of central banks.

Possibly so... The best solution then imo would be to run RTL instead (Ride The Lightning) via a Tor hidden service if you don't like lncli. You'd also want to open your channels in private mode using only taproot addresses but I haven't reached that level (of paranoia) yet🐸

I access Lightning Terminal locally on my node (https-//localhost:8443/home) to setup Lightning Node Connect passphrases for use on my phone, laptop & node itself. I then use https-//terminal.lightning.engineering/ that connects to my Tor-only node to open/close channels and update fees to optimize routing. You could also setup a Tor hidden service for https-//localhost:8443/ to access it remotely if you need to create more passphrases while away from your node☕

To connect to my node from my phone, I use Orbot as Tor proxy + juiceSSH as terminal.
If I need to access from my laptop I use linux+torify+ssh.
You need to set up a tor ssh hidden service on the node first.

Being able to contact the node admins in case of a system crash to ask them to force close the channels would certainly make me feel more comfortable. If it's one my peers that crashes, I don't have to wait for days or weeks to see whether or not they make it back online. If the balance is mine I would close sooner, but if the channel is empty on my side I would probably just leave it to avoid paying the fees for nothing.

Operating a Lightning node is not an easy task when having to decide which channels to open. Certain tools can provide some insight on the remote nodes but none will tell you how the channels will behave on your node. Some are never used while others run dry and never fill again.
To many nodes connect to the few big players, leading to excessive centralisation of the network allowing them to charge high fees and making it difficult to balance one channels. For nodes to be able to relay transactions they need incoming liquidity which is not easy to obtain and can be expensive.
I created this community so that node operators can promote their nodes and share their experiences to improve the overall quality of the network.

Awesome! But I don't like the idea of having to use Orbot: It scares the newbies and makes orange-pilling a lot more difficult. Bluewallet has done the same which was a real bummer. I've given up for the time being and just recommend WoS rather than trying to connect them to my node. I could use Zeus but "custodial wallet" warning that shows up also makes newbies uncorfortable...😑

Check the time-lock on the channel: the csv_delay set how many blocks you have to wait to access your funds.
Also check the fees that were set on the closing transaction: You might have to boost it which can be tricky..
