Why are many lightning wallets unable to send the full contents of the wallet as a single transaction and automatically calculate fees needed against the total to send what will empty the wallet? Is that a lightnig hang up or just a wallet UX shortcoming?
I too often end up having to guess the balance to send against any fluctuating fee required and leaves the stranded sats in the wallet. those are unzapable zaps! Am I missing something? Guilty of this that I’ve found are:

I say, Yes to editing on the client layer, because typo. But, I say NO to edits on the protocol layer. There is a greater value to the protocol for the permanance of the notes than to a flexible note for the one user.
Here's my thought process and where I arrived:
I want to know that the post I'm looking at is the post that was placed, and the comments are about this version of it, and the repost are about this version of it. That's important to me as a community observer.
As a contributor, I want to fix my typos.
So, on those times that I look back and see a typo, it's usually right after I post it and before anyone has engaged with it. I just pop over to Nos.social, open the post. Copy the content. Delete the post. Go back to Primal, make sure it deleted, make the post anew with the typo fixed, and resubmit it for all to see without the typo.
That workflow could be provided by Primal. Primal could let me "edit" whereby my original post would be deleted and the new version would be submitted as a new post. After my edit is ready, Primal tells me it's about to request relay deletion of the original post and submit this new version of my post, to which I confirm. That ability could expire after 5 minutes or some short term useful time limit, at the client level.
But, I as the user am not inclined to do that anyway after someone has engaged with it. I'm more likely to just post a comment with the whole "I mean *typo." if it's even worth it. This is the case because the note's consistency after engagement is more valuable to the community than my ability to fix the typo is to me.
This suggested functionality on Primal or any client is my ideal workflow on the protocol, while preserving the important features yet accommodating the necessary one for user experience.

I’m reading Marcus Aurelius and your post reminds me of an entry of his.
He recognizes each day that he will meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial. And he recognizes that all of these things happen to them because of their ignorance. It helps him not feel animosity toward them or offense from them.
But also, to your point, why would he ever take guidance from them. They are projecting from their own viewpoints and see life through their own lens. At a certain point, putting their advice above your own self guidance is disrespect to your life experience and the time you have invested in your knowledge and your own analysis of the world as it occurs around you.
Good for you, to stand on your own two feet and to own the outcome of your life.

I’ve been playing with this too. I just finished reading The Story Of Civilization, Book 1, Our Orirntal Heritage by Will Durant.
I had a thought worth sharing as I recalled threads about the roles of religion throughout the book, what lead to christianity, and one credit to religion worth quoting at the end of his book. I ‘read’ it on audible, so it would have been impossible to dig back and reference many of the points where I wanted to weave an idea together.
So I had ChatGPT_4o do the heavy lifting for reference while I guided its summary perspective, added the quote and read through it as an editor to make sure it’s what I wanted it to say and conveyed the point I was pondering.
I was happy with the end result and it saved me an hour and a half easily. At the end, I consider the work mine. I used AI as a tool, to do my work faster and effectively, but by my view the product was of me, not of the AI.

Priorities shift markedly.
I remember when my son was born and I saw him first open his eyes and it was clear how much of a blank slate he was.
I realized in that moment, my job was to not fuck him up. And that he wouldn’t get the most input from my words. He would only be taking in my example that I lived in his presence and be guided by the environment I developed around him.

My friend lost his bitcoin wallet passphrase and thought he lost his whole bag. This is how I got it back to them.
I gathered what I could to help him and even got some tips from the Nostr community.
I had the seed phrase, the XFP, and the first couple addresses to the wallet that the passphrase was for. So I just needed to do a strategic brute force tactic. I logged every possible password after quizzing the worried friend about their likely tactics to create it; letters, numbers, special characters, length, spaces, etc. Then I typed up every word in their journal since they had it with them when they created the passphrase.
I then used AI (could easily script this part, but I just dumped it to a local LLM for speed) to convert those lists to uppercase, lowercase and mixed case variations with nearby relation words or possible phrases based on synonyms and like phrases. This bulked up my brute list.
I then manually picked from the journal any chains of words that could likely be used as a phrase and did the same AI case mix process with those. I also added an online resource of 10,000,000 common passwords from here just in case:

That was my brute force list. I hit the passphrase with a positive message in under a minute. It took longer to get everything set up than to brute force it with my dictionary. But I didn’t use a generative dictionary, just my built one.

While working through this, I was very paranoid that this would try to backdoor steal the bitcoin before I could move it to safety. So, I had the computer offline for the process of running the script and I ran a network monitor, so that I would know if any script, app or random connection tries to connect to any other server or system from my machine.
So, I was offline and that was running. It detected no outside connection attempts during the use of the script. I was able to move the bitcoin to another secure wallet and all went well.
I finished the process with trust for these tools and resources. That’s my take, but do your own research. And how is it that we end these type of posts?… oh, yeah… “This is not financial or security advice, as I am not your qualified professional.”

The evolution of religion that led to Christianity is a fascinating journey through human history. To understand where Christianity came from, we need to look back at how religious thought developed over time. Christianity didn’t just appear out of nowhere—it’s the product of thousands of years of spiritual growth, shaped by different cultures and ideas coming together.
In the earliest stages of human society, religion was all about animism—the belief that spirits were everywhere, in trees, rivers, the wind. Over time, that evolved into polytheism, where gods were associated with specific things like the sun, fertility, or the harvest. You can see this in ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia and Egypt, where their gods played a big role in daily life and governance. These early beliefs set the stage for more structured religious systems that would come later.
Then came a huge shift with Judaism. The Hebrews moved from worshipping many gods to focusing on just one—Yahweh. This wasn’t just any god but an all-powerful one, and their relationship with him was built on a covenant, where they agreed to follow his laws in exchange for protection and favor. This emphasis on ethical monotheism—believing in one god who demanded justice and moral behavior—became the backbone of Christianity later on. The idea of a Messiah, a savior who would one day come to redeem the people, was deeply embedded in Jewish thought.
But it wasn’t just Judaism that fed into what would become Christianity. Zoroastrianism, an ancient Persian religion, introduced powerful ideas about good and evil, judgment, and salvation. These themes of moral dualism—along with the hope for resurrection and an end to the world’s suffering—found their way into Christian theology as well.
As the world expanded, so did religious thinking, and the Greeks and Romans added their own layers. Greek philosophers like Plato talked about the soul and the ideal world, which gave people a new way to think about the divine and the afterlife. Meanwhile, Roman religious culture, which was a mix of gods, mystery religions, and even emperor worship, provided a fertile ground for new ideas. Mystery cults like those of Mithras and Isis were already offering personal salvation and the hope of an afterlife—concepts that would resonate with early Christian converts.
Christianity itself started as a Jewish movement. Jesus of Nazareth came out of the Jewish prophetic tradition, but his message was a radical reinterpretation of Jewish law, one that emphasized love, forgiveness, and a personal connection with God. It has provided that sense of unity and purpose which has enabled men to endure their sufferings, to overcome obstacles, and to build societies in which they might live together in relative security and peace. But this doesn’t strip religion of its value—it just shifts how we engage with it.
In today’s world, as science continues to expand our understanding of everything from the origins of the universe to the complexity of human life, there’s less of a need to rely on religion for explaining the mysteries of existence. The stories that once filled those gaps are now seen more as allegories or moral tales than as literal truths. For some, this realization leads to abandoning religion altogether, but for others, it presents an opportunity to reframe how we see faith and its role in society.
Rather than clinging to every biblical word, a healthy approach is to embrace the positive aspects of religion without insisting on its literal accuracy. Religion has given us ethical teachings, a sense of community, and a framework for meaning—all things that are still relevant today. We don’t have to believe in miracles or divine intervention to appreciate these gifts. We don’t need to be bound by rigid interpretations of ancient texts to find value in their lessons.
What this might look like is simple. We can take the best of what religion offers—the calls for love, compassion, justice, and forgiveness—while making room for science, reason, and the idea that the stories are more about guiding principles than historical facts. We can continue to foster the sense of connection and shared purpose that religion provides, without falling into exclusionary or dogmatic thinking. It’s not about rejecting religion, but about letting it evolve alongside us, as Durant suggests.
The future of religion could be one where we honor its past and its wisdom, while also being open to what science and philosophy can teach us. It’s not an either-or situation; it’s a both-and. We can move forward with humility, knowing that religion will always have a place in guiding us through the big questions, even as our understanding of the world grows. After all, as Durant wisely observed, “religion does not die; she changes her form, but she remains.” We can embrace that change and let it enrich our lives, without losing sight of the truths we now know.

Our Oriental Heritage finished on modern Japan’s relationships with China, the US, Russia and the eastern world. It was odd to hear all of that wrap up through the eyes of a person that didn’t even know WWII was going to take place. He only mentioned The Great War in the final texts.

I run a relay that I can’t use because Primal won’t let me connect to it. They demand a relay address type that my private relay doesn’t match. The developers of the Nostr clients need to understand that they are the first line of defense of keeping users from developing UX habits that lead right back to centralization.

Listening to these guys. This chart shows global liquidity expanding. We’re so leveraged across the world that this matters a great deal to every asset that absorbs liquidity. Even though the FED is still tightening by letting holdings roll off their books, the macro trend on a global scale has entered rate cutting, which pours on liquidity. When you get to this stage of the cycle the risk of a resurgence of inflation is high, and as much as us plebs are tempted to yell, “up now forever!”, we have to recognize that the stabilization of the economy is going to call for higher rates for longer. So there is expected to be a throttling of the pace and targets for the FED’s rate reductions. They’re trying to soft-land their little plane in gusty headwinds winds.

I’ve been enjoying Elijah’s show, especially his breakdown of the upcoming Missouri ballot items for November. There are quite a few of them.
This clip covers the Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) Ban initiative, which aims to block a system I believe could benefit the middle ground—where most of us fall.
What frustrates me is that this RCV ban was bundled with the “ensure only citizens can vote” item, which is an obvious yes for most people, myself included. But I don’t think enough voters understand what ranked choice voting could offer for those who constantly feel trapped voting for the lesser of two extremes.
Ranked choice voting allows you to vote for candidates you truly support, withhold votes from those you disapprove of, and rank your choices by preference. It eliminates the fear of wasting your vote on third-party or less popular candidates, who, under the current system, often end up “stealing” votes from more viable options.
In Elijah’s example of 9 candidates, I could rank the 5 conservative candidates according to how they align with my priorities, while excluding the 4 I oppose. The most extreme candidates would rank lowest, and if they win, it means my fellow citizens preferred them, which is fair. But I suspect that many, like me, feel stuck in a two-party system and would prefer to vote for more moderate candidates.
Ranked choice voting also reduces the need for massive campaign funding. I could simply visit candidate websites, listen to debates, and check their voting records without being bombarded by costly ads.
This system ensures my votes aren’t wasted. I can support candidates I like to varying degrees while withholding support from those I strongly oppose.
It feels like this legislative push to ban RCV before people even understand it—and bundling it with a popular, unrelated issue—is an act of self-preservation by incumbents. I’ll be voting against this initiative, and I hope others see through it as well.

I hear you, but that’s akin to thinking ‘why do I need a 1st amendment, I can say what I want’. Or ‘why do we need the 2nd amendment, we already have some guns’.
The adoption of it as law is to shut down the federal fight against privacy products, which is an end-run at prohibiting the exercise of the rights we know we possess. These charges brought against privacy product developers in the Bitcoin space is an encroachment against a right we know we have, but that isn’t constitutionally protected, and could become explicitly illegal or merely implicitly by allowing precedent to dictate outcomes in court. Let’s not leave it to the lawyers of bureaucrats to determine the fate of those developers that face charges for doing no wrong to people, rather only being guilty of restricting the power of the state.

That’s perspective. You can fix that if you like. Absorb some stoic philosophy that can adjust the lens through which you look at events that come your way. Find the thought structures that address valid or wasteful worry, healthy or pointless preparation, the extent of your responsibility, how bodily feelings communicate from the unconscious to the conscious mind, what to do or not do about what is outside your control. Superstition and dread creep into any void not filled by mental intent. There’s peace at the end of the study. Inner peace is within reach through knowledge after the awareness you’ve shown. Just a few tactics are needed at key points. It’s not even hard once your ideal ones are identified and defined.

Lately, I always ask 4o to check its work, and see if it can improve its answer, because of how often its first answer is wrong. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a threaded set of intelligent challenges to the first response an it offers the strongest candidate back as its user response. Even though it likely is, it wouldn’t even need to be a separate LLM.

Good call, @Rabble.
I run a @npub126n…e9ll and their built in marketplace’s #Nostr #relay application with a private relay set up. I’ve whitelisted my npub for my app usage to allow writing to it.
But, I can’t seem to use it.
I use @Nos.social , @Primal , and @Nostur on iOS, and @NoStrudel on the Start9. Among the iOS clients I can’t get the ws:://***.onion address to work in my relay settings, nor do I know where my iOS apps will default write my posts to.
I also want my relay to permanently store my content. But I don’t know how it can be configured to do that.
Would love more clarification on how to set this up.
