A little pain reinforces better behavior. But, spanking is only effective for young children. When they get to a certain age, and reason kicks in, incentives and disincentives are more effective, e.g. "Oh, I thought you wanted to get some ice cream tonight, but if you keep doing X, we may have to delay that to another day when you're not doing X." Anyway, it seems to have helped with my four kids, who are now all grown. Prior to that drive, I was so negative regarding the economy and how I would most likely have to work until I'm ninety just to stay even. Technology was changing so fast, and not all of it for the better. Then, finally "getting" bitcoin changed it all. I am an Electrical Engineer and Software Developer. I saw how so often technology was often used for evil. I used to think the only fix for us would be a giant EMP event or something that removed the dangerous power of technology (Yeah, I know, this is my livelihood, and I'm hoping for its demise). But, with bitcoin, I see so much good that we can accomplish, and maybe find better ways to counteract the bad use of technology. I now see hope, and am invigorated to find a way to contribute to a better world, rather than try to find a way to escape from it. Bitcoin was a life-changer for me. I'm loving it. I've done many fasts over the years, but I can't seem to get past the 3-day point. They say your hunger reduces at the 3-day point, but it didn't for me. I was in software development for many years, mostly working in Perl. As time went on, I moved further away from software development and spent five years in senior management, but I found out I really didn't like that, although the pay was pretty good. Now, with a different job (sadly not in software development), I decided to jump into Rust on the side because it really looks like a solid language, even though it has a steep learning curve. I'm still pretty new to Rust, so we'll see where this goes. I've been loving the bitcoin world since my son orange-pilled me almost three years ago. Well, that is important, letting what we save for future needs to increase in value compared to if we left it in the fiat system. But I don't think that's the most important. To me, the real value of bitcoin is its threat resistance. A government or some other bad actor can come along and confiscate everything I have, but if I've protected my seed phrase, even to the point of torture, I can have the satisfaction that even if I am no longer able to possess it, assuming they take the torture to its extreme, at least they won't get it either. It's analogous to past Christian martyrs protecting their souls if they stayed true to their faith to the bitter end.
