the year is 2024, nostr has been frozen in a self imposed note lockout. people abandoned the spam filled relays and retreated to long time paid or wot relays, and relays with access control.. only to realize their client doesnt do outbox and their network is now hidden from their view.
blastr closed down and cant cover up the problems with clients anymore. the ones that *do have outbox clients, huddle around a small note fire for warmpth, and accept that their centralized frens may never be heard from again.

when i started experimenting with nostr business a year and a half ago, the future was bright. we had lightning and bitcoiners. we had micropayments, something no other social tech had.
but now, there's a growing anti lightning sentiment between the client devs, they want new users at any cost, and in their mind they think sacrificing and suppressing lightning will lead to this. "its too hard for new users", they say. they think bitcoin content is in the way of adoption. they think micropayments are not a good spam deterrent. they think big tech model of free services for the masses is the way to grow.
whats the way forward then? how is this any different than 2-3 blueskys, without micropayments as a first class thing? #asknostr #askjack

no, in theory wot relays, wot clients, lightning network.. thats what all my 'game theory' ideas keep coming back to as a solution. but i think im about a year ahead of everyone from running these relays and seeing all the spam all the time. you dont follow that many people so you may not see the endless misery of the users that it's not fixed for, gave up, etc.

it didnt though. not only did it not stop replyguy, but it'll never work against the same thing or a slightly evolved thing targeting individual pubkeys or groups..
what happened was a combination of big relays finally filtering, the mute lists (yes) and these webs of trust/ paid relays..
clients need fine grain relay controls.. gossip has a relay setting for marking "spam safe" where it will pull more notifications than from a relay that isnt marked.
i was not specifically talking about any one client this is just something i notice over a very long time period. i used to attempt to block things like replyguy too, on the relay side, the content blocks DO NOT WORK against an evolving bot. the same thing happens over and over. sometimes to individuals, sometimes to the wider network. many will be leaving nostr in the future because of this, they have no control over replies other than just turning on "replies only for follows". and this is not gonna work cause follows cant grow past 1-2k pubkeys.
mute words is handy, its useful. but its not a solution. i hope client devs realize that.

ive been rolling out new server capacity and a new higher availability architecture (while remaining free of big cloud tech).
one of the new(er) servers, something went (got a huge traffic spike?) wrong and it had to be rebooted. it should not have had as much of an impact on the cluster either, but it did.
still root causing and etc, such is the server life 😎

I think it's both. So, the particles zooming around in an aurora storm, knocks out the intergalactic cosmic rays. This is only what I learned at the geo institute of the Rocket range supercomputer that studied the aurora in alaska.. Otherwise, it pierces the shield... weakining shield is obvs not good. Hey y'all! So, relay.tools has billing features now. I've struggled to use nostr messages to notify customers of relay.tools, that balances are due, I believe the notes went out (many attempts were made, kind1, DMs, etc). The reality is the nostr network is not good yet at these basic types of human interactions.

I do have a bunch of inbox and outbox relays, only 2 of my inboxes are open to public write I just noticed, is there a list of DVM npubs I can add to my relay?. Amethyst only shows one DVM, but in the past I've seen much more than that (when dvms.f7z.io was online).. So it's not even discovering them.
