Thanks. I’m preparing to switch to Linux, especially now that Apple has dropped OS support for my iMac, and was curious about what options I might have from a browser standpoint.

I always wait until the .2 update each new OS. Gives them a chance to fix the issues caused by fixing the issues from the initial release.

I was going to do it on the 4th of July (symbolism completely intended), but life got busy. When the whole Charlie Kirk thing happened and people on there started worshipping him like he was a saint, I had enough and told everybody I was closing my account in a month.

Yeah, that’s a trade off to consider, of course. I made sure everybody knew I was leaving and that those who wanted to stay in touch traded contact info with me, but I’m sure there are going to be people I lose touch with after today.

That's a "side effect" of Trump's move I hadn't considered - Signaling to his governor minions that they should roll out the national guard as a suppression tactic. Kind of surprised none of them have done so to this point since there have been protests in red states, including my own (Ohio).

My pleasure. I’m still on a DSLR (Nikon D5600), but I hadn’t progressed on adjusting settings until I had a talk with a friend who shoots marching arts events all the time and was more than happy to give me some guidance. I’m also using auto-focus (I’m not THAT good yet).
My friend also recommended a lens and mirrorless camera, but I’ll need to find $2000 in the budget first. :D

Essentially took the camera off automatic settings. Set it to aperture priority and set the ISO to 6400, which is so much better for indoor events like these. Before, I was getting a lot more blur in my shots, either because the camera couldn’t handle the movement or because of focusing issues. Today, none of that, plus my camera just reacted faster in my hands.

2025-03-02 04:27:06 GMT

What blows me away about today’s event isn’t that I took 1143 photos.
No, what blows me away is that, with a couple simple changes to my camera settings, my photos are SO. MUCH. BETTER.

What's more, I was raised by my grandparents, who were staunch Democrats their entire lives. My grandfather, in fact...

I feel that's part of the point of the Fediverse. You have many options, so pick the one which fits your goals. People can follow you in so many ways.

Might also be a sign I should double check my post to make sure I've worded it clearly. I'm glad I could clarify, though!

Second option means I have one account (Mastodon). Anybody who follows me on Pixelfed would only see posts with photos in them.
First option is where I have a Mastodon AND a Pixelfed account and I post to both depending on whether or not there's a photo involved.

2024-09-15 17:36:15 GMT

Which is better - Having separate Mastodon and Pixelfed accounts or focusing purely on Mastodon and asking people to subscribe to that account on Pixelfed if they want to just see my posts with images?

#Introduction
Hello everybody. My name is Kevin.
Professionally, I work in IT, helping small and medium sized businesses who may not be large enough to need or afford their own IT person/department.
Personally, I am a long time performer, fan, journalist, and advocate of the marching arts activities (drum corps, marching band, winter guard, indoor percussion, indoor winds). My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in December.
