Last Notes npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @nprofile…y789 this Belgrade - Trieste nonsense hurts my head so much. My favorite bit of the linked B92 Belgrade - Ljubljana story is the "take the train to lake Bled to eat a cake and return to Belgrade the same day" npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Prompted by some of our confusion about abysmal speeds today, I went on a deep dive researching speed deterioration on the Zagreb - Tovarnik (>Beograd) main line. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince EU Europeans are still blissfully unbothered and unaware of the EES, meanwhile truckers from 4 Balkan countries started blocking freight traffic through Schengen borders on Monday, asking (unclear from whom exactly) exemptions from the 90/180 rule that is now getting enforced through EES npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Hi frens npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Faxing from Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as one does #39c3 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Always a pleasure to listen to @nprofile…998y npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Greetings from Hamburg npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Riding through Western Slovakia this Sunday, I noticed an interesting commercial mesh network. A local ISP (RadioLan) had a bunch of Ubiquiti LiteBeam directional antennas installed on houses and directed to an old sugar refinery chimney in the middle of the village. The antennas on the chimney are presumably LiteAP Sectors. Pretty much the same stuff we use at @nprofile…hnwp npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @nprofile…cg79 jesus. my dream is to spend €10 000 a month to live next to a highway interchange npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince HŽPP 6112 at Dobova 👀 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince I wouldn't exactly call a 7 hour journey with 2 connections via Szeged and Subotica on a Metrovagonmash DMU "connected" but okay npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @nprofile…c5n8 will you stop in Zagreb? I've been meaning to join your draisine event in Vienna on Sunday but it'd be fun to also say hi here if you're passing through npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Traces of USAID's work in Croatia from 20 years ago. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Emergency rally for release of Mahmoud Khalil at Foley Square npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @nprofile…c5n8 with great delay I've got the answer to this question. Feasibility study was completed in 2022 showing that the optimal route to connect Čakovec/Varaždin and Zagreb should use this route from Lepoglava and connect it to Zagreb via Zabok, which requires new 20.5km of railroad between Poznanovec and Lepoglava. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Different trains npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince While I'm not an Atari person, I did bring my 2600 for fun. I also showed off the Galaksija computer 40th anniversary replica. More info about it is available here: https://blog.vladovince.com/galaksija-and-racunari-u-vasoj-kuci-40th-anniversary-celebration/ npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince It was great to see many familiar faces and meet some folks in person for the first time. Some of the highlights include the Atari Video Music visualizer from 1977 (courtesy of @nprofile…tne7) the Atari Stacy portable computer and a whole big box adventure game *about* the Atari Party by @nprofile…tca5! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince I had such a lovely time at #AtariParty2024! Thank you @nprofile…zl2a and folks for organizing. This was one of the most wholesome vintage computing events I've attended. Quakertown train station is such a cozy venue and it was very fun to see a great variety of Atari machines in one place. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince So I know I just published a blog post saying that VueScan was too slow to be worth it for my film scanning workflow and that I'm using the Nikon Scan app instead, but I finally set up infrared dust correction correctly in VueScan and holy shit the difference is huge npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince "Powers up" doing a lot of work in this ad npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince If you're working on a third gen iPod, make sure you check out @nprofile…tne7 excellent post about the same topic: https://biosrhythm.com/?p=2851 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince I published another blog post that is half musings on personal history, half retro tinkering npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince With great delay, I published the story of how I ran a mobile #GlobalTalk zone at this year's #VCFEast festival. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub13le…6saf oh thanks for the reminder! I totally missed that it's happening this week. I just might! It's really out of my way, but I don't have anything scheduled this Saturday. I'll let you know npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince And here's the #HOPE keynote by @npub1hyk…3p33! It's, unsurprisingly, on everyone's favorite topic in 2024: enshitification! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Unfortunately looks like the recording of my #HOPE talk failed halfway through, but you can get the slides here: https://blog.vladovince.com/files/HOPE_AppleTalk.pdf npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince This now vintage laundromat sign is better at public health communication than the CDC npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Man, instead of triumphantly returning to NYC a few hours before congestion pricing kicks in, this homecoming is just a disappointing mix of compounding anxieties npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1mm3…ft6j this happens to me too but to my brain npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Guess who's traveling with me npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince There are 343 inaccessible subway stations in the New York City subway system, and Kathy Hochul now owns each and every one of them. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince SICKOS YES HAHA YES npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Having actually lived through a civil war, Civil War (2024) is one of the most idiotic movies I've ever seen npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince I came to the United States for education. I would not recommend coming here to study to anyone else nowadays. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Have we had a 128K on #GlobalTalk? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince So we've had a few IIGSs on #GlobalTalk (congrats on finally getting it online @npub132n…342u!) but does anyone have an Apple II Workstation Card to bring a //e online? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Hey East Coast #GlobalTalk admins, who else is coming to #VCFeast in two weeks? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1ay2…lq0y has one of the best #GlobalTalk shares - not only is PurrTopia the best place to get your up to date IP lists to use with @npub1nsq…23w7's AIR config, you'll also find a fun HyperCard Web stack and lots of great cat pics! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Anyone on #GlobalTalk available to test something for me? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Seeing some network range conflicts on #GlobalTalk -- looks like some folks set their ranges to include 989 and 1000 which me and @npub1kyl…9jzs respectively have as network numbers. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince How many #GlobalTalk connected computers is too many computers? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Oh hey look it's a 512K connected to #GlobalTalk npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Among other fascinating things, the #GlobalTalk craze really shows how far the Fediverse has come. And it makes sense! There's a lot of parallels in how we're building this hobby vintage network, and what we do on here in the "real world" npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince I'm a few days late, but tonight I completed a pretty significant revamp of my #GlobalTalk AppleShare setup. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub13le…6saf yeah that sounds like what I saw too. I'll share the exact setup after work today, but one thing to look at is LocalTalk routing in your AIR. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub13le…6saf I did! I followed that exact post. The only possible difference is that I'm running TashTalk and TashRouter on separate machines (Rpis). npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1nsq…23w7 sorry I spammed the list with all the JUPAK test zones while I was experiencing troubles 😄 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince #sethernet isn't the only Macintosh expansion I installed yesterday - I also got zigzagjoe's Booster 50-SE30F accelerator. npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Hypercard can't understand why we're using it to chat in the year 2024 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Good EST evening #GlobalTalk friends! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1nsq…23w7 @npub132n…342u I went to work so I shut down my SE/30 to prevent unwanted consequences while I'm gone 😅 npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1mm3…ft6j I need to delete cache on my single user instance every few months, and it's literally just me following a few hundred people. I was lazy so I provisioned a 200GB drive for this VM, but I still need to make sure this cache is cleared regularly npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince Hi friends JUPAK is reporting for #GlobalTalk #livelaughlocaltalk duty! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub13le…6saf @npub1kyl…9jzs incredible. are you open to expanding this network? npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub13le…6saf @npub1kyl…9jzs this is so incredibly cool! npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince @npub1xna…gk0j cautionary tale!! #marchintosh npub104z2l68wqg6t8lzcrws6vrrld9enrkdawkunq4dfezemqxdf8nws6ez6qq Vlado Vince It's official - a Lisa will be my #marchintosh2024 project this year!
