Would anybody like to donate an #iPhone to us for testing? Old/used is okay. 🙂
#iOS is one of the weakest links in the #XMPP ecosystem, and we've been having a hard time finding iOS testers. Having an iOS device of our own would be very helpful!

You know how we've always claimed "#WhatsApp could introduce features that you don't agree with"? Well, we've just got our latest demonstration. WhatsApp has started to introduce #ads to users—"contextual" ones, of course (guess what that means).

If Prāv turned evil, we'd have to start with a consensus process like this which would probably get blocked at the first step 🛑
(Not to mention the fact that you could always switch to some other #Jabber / #XMPP supporting app and seamlessly carry on communication as before!)

Do you want to send an SMS? If you're from India, chances are you get 100 of those every day bundled with whatever phone plan you subscribed to.
But if you're a company looking to send messages to people, the story is quite different. Prav currently uses the Twilio SMS gateway, which costs us about ₹7 per message. Since we need to send our one-time passwords (OTPs) via SMS, that makes seven rupees spent every time someone signs up (or logs in again) to Prav!
Help us cover our SMS costs by sending a donation.

We run a messaging service which respects user #privacy and built on #FreeSoftware and #XMPP. Our server is on Hetzner, and SMS provider is Twilio (we send SMS for account registration). These things cost money.
Therefore, we need you. Help us cover our Hosting and SMS costs by sending a donation.
If you are outside India 👉 opencollective.com/pravapp/pro…
If you are in India 👉 pages.razorpay.com/pl_NseNHjx2…
Our target amount is $200 (US Dollars), which will cover hosting and SMS costs for a year.
Never heard of Prav or XMPP? Feel free to download Prav from F-Droid or Google Play Store today! Learn more at prav.app .

Does your messaging app ask you which features you want? Or what to include in the privacy policy?
At #Prav, members have equal voting rights, giving you a voice in decision-making. Sounds too good to be true?
If you're around, join us in Noida where @nprofile…ed8v will be shedding light on how Prav is your own project.

@nprofile…srcr 3. The Prav server will be able to add new Quicksy users into the Prav directory, allowing Prav users to be able to discover Quicksy users. (If you like, we can also add prav.app users to the Quicksy directory, allowing Quicksy users to discover Prav users.)

@nprofile…srcr This way -
1. Quicksy can operate without SMS costs.
2. The Prav client will be able to provide a free tier of (quicksy.im) accounts, in addition to our prav.app accounts (which we are planning to keep subscriber-only with a 6-month trial period).
(2/3)

2025-03-25 08:17:51 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…srcr We propose to handle the SMS charges if you could allow Prav's server component to create Quicksy.im accounts.
1. The Prav client will give users an option to create quicksy.im accounts.
2. The Quicksy client can connect to the Prav server component to have us send verification SMS on Quicksy's behalf for new users.

@nprofile…83qx will be presenting #Prav in #BiharFOSS conference at IIT Patna on the 22nd of March, organized by @nprofile…ef6h. Additionally, @nprofile…fwqd has volunteered to help with the operation of a stall, where we can distribute Prav stickers and flyers, and engage in one-to-one discussions with participants.
We believe this activity will be beneficial in spreading Prav and #XMPP among as-yet untapped audiences because we have no presence in Bihar.
To that end, we would need 9,000 INR, which translates to approx. 100 Euros and 105 US Dollars for travel expenses. Please consider donating to us to help us meet these expenses.
If you would like to donate in Indian Rupees, please use this link 👉 pages.razorpay.com/pl_NseNHjx2… and donate in the "General" category.
Otherwise, please use this link 👉 opencollective.com/pravapp/don…
Thanks a lot to all the contributors!
