oh I was envisioning reading a paperback. I wouldn't reccomend that while driving!
This book might be fine to listen to as an audiobook while driving if traffic is light, I'm not sure. Personally I don't like audiobooks while driving because I find I have to focus too much on the road and end up rewinding a lot. I don't have that issue with podcasts as much, I think because conversations tend to be less information-dense.

yeah, I installed the official Linux software from Epson on my work computer, and connected it to scan a reciept from a work trip. It 'worked', in that I got a readable pdf output that I could submit. But the result was nowhere near as nice as what the Mac one gives.
I haven't tried wine with the windows one, but maybe that is worth a shot.

my 2019 macbook air is going to stop getting security patches sometime soon, and I'm thinking about my next move. I'd like to go to Linux (I use Linux already for my work computer). The one app I regularly use, and would miss, is the epson scansmart app, to drive my ff-680. The official Linux driver creates much crappier scans, and doesn't do OCR.
Do you have any suggestions for alternative solutions?

yeah, I agree that using AI to evaluate protected speech is not a valid use.
I guess I was trying to draw a line between government using tools like AI to work more effectively, and delegating authority and decision making to AI. The former seems like it is probably okay, and the latter is definitely not.

I'm curious what they mean by AI here. Are they using it to make decisions (very troubling) or just to find instances for humans to look into (sounds like maybe a useful tool, assuming the job is worth doing in the first place)?
And that leads to the bigger concern here. If these students, who are here legally, are participating in protected speech, they should absolutely be protected from prosecution or persecution (including having their visa revoked).

these big municipal composting operations can take pretty much anything that used to be alive, including dairy, meat, and bones (and paper that can't be recycled, like pizza boxes). When I lived in a place that had it, we put all that stuff in.
But, there, we could also go on certain days, and pick up the resulting compost, for use in our garden. Because we had (a small) one. I agree, that if people don't see a use for the compost, they are unlikely to buy into it.
