Very kind of you to say so. 😊 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…4yyv My impression is that there are servers to join, though I've not researched it extensively so I couldn't say conclusively. The upside to XMPP and Matrix is that they're federated/distributed and not tied to a single, controlling entity like Signal. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…4yyv The challenge for me is finding something my friends and family will actually join me on. We've landed on Signal. It's better than some others but I wish I could convince them to use XMPP with me (I'd self host snikket and invite them). npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Reading about this #Bitwarden / #Vaultwarden issue has me feeling smug about my much simpler #Syncthing / #KeePass setup. 🤓 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley How I self-host my ebooks and audiobooks npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm curious about what people think is the goto, best, distributed, federated messaging protocol? #XMPP was cool back in the day but I can't really see a way forward with it. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Are there still block chain bros or have they all leveled up to AI bros? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…l9z3 here's Linus laying on a freshly made bed. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…nmy4 not yet. thi sis my couch laptop so I don't use the camera either. :( npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…nmy4 No, I don't use the SD reader. :( npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley 😁 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hello internet. I am typing this to you from Debian! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…wcq8 it's cute! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Y'all, I'm running #PopOS on an old 13 inch MacBook Pro. I'm really wanting to upgrade to something new and with a better keyboard but maybe I just replace the battery, repaste the CPU and blow the thing out with canned air and call it good for another 5 years? It feels a smidge slow but I think repasting and canned air will help with heat throttling. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm also of the mind that Costco purposefully does not include the size/amount of things on the receipt because they do not want you to easily comparison shop by unit price. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm using the default web client on desktop for Mastodon. When I click on Live feeds, I see three options: npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Costco on a Sunday is hell on earth. Everyone has these giant carts, no one knows how to act or where to be. I feel in the way and there's no where to be without feeling in the way. Not great Bob. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…fk7h I use these for that functionality. But like the Sonoff's mentioned earlier, these are also zigbee so you'd need to add a zigbee dongle to your setup. Single press, double press, long press options for running automations. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…aka8 thanks man I added a note about version requirements. Plus your comment will show on my blog because webmentions. :) npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…sa29 I too love my ebike. :) npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…3s6z yeah same here. i only use it to remove drm from books I purchase and that's it. I want to be able to read books I purchase on any device i choose. fuck drm npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I updated my evergreen guide on setting up Calibre to remove DRM from ebooks on Linux. Fathom says this is my top rated post and I'm the first result on Google if you search 'calibre remove drm linux' so thats cool. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…rg2z Yeah, I guess good is subjective. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…3ne4 I love factorio. It just feels that it's an endless sandbox and I can just keep playing. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hey #Fediverse, #Indieweb folks, can someone please help me test #webmentions on my site? I've added the functionality but I want to see how posts from other people's blog will be presented on my site. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…v3xj I've always loved the idea of AR glasses. The concept is fucking brilliant. Superimposing a digital layer on the physical world just seems genuinely cool. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…76kw 😢 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I blogged about my recent experience as a Juror. Check it out of that's your jam. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Anyone on here have recommendations for private trackers? I'm running a Sonarr/Radarr/Lidarr stack and finding public indexers hit or miss for older/niche content. Open to interview-based ones too. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I Was Called for Jury Duty in Richmond, VA. Here's What I Wish I'd Known. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I Was Called for Jury Duty in Richmond, VA. Here's What I Wish I'd Known. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hey #HomeAssitant folks, Zooz is having a 1/2 off sale on their open and close sensors. $19.75 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…9v4s Weird I do actually find it on your page! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…9v4s This one didn't land for me friend. They all don't have to. :) npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm trying out FreshRSS and Miniflux as self hosted solutions and ugh their UI and reading workflow isn't nearly as nice as Feedbin. I think I might just stick with Feedbin if I'm honest. Like, why use something that isn't as capable on principle? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley The Matrix is my favorite movie all time. Just re-watched it and I have to say, it still holds up really well. Special effects, acting, all of it. The cheesiest part is where Neo calls the machines then flies away. The fly away part is bad CGI. What a great movie though. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm trying not to get swept up in this 11ty/build awesome stuff... but it does feel bad and I'm thinking about alternatives. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Just wanted to praise how good the #HomeAssistant backup and restore functionality is (again). My Home Assistant server was running on a NUC as bare metal. I wanted to install Proxmox instead so I could run other things on the computer along side HA. The backup and restore process went smoothly. Like very smoothly. I'm shocked when something works well the first time. So anyhoo kudos to the HA backup and restore functionality and the devs who created it. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…dws0 Clearly! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley More often than not, people arguing against LLMs are using straw men to do so... at least compared to how I'm using and thinking about them. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Oh ffs I don't need 2fa on my ezpass account. Is someone going to log in and add money to my pass??? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…5es2 😀 npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…5es2 thanks! I used navidrome for a while myself. I don't have a setup for ripping CDs. I have a USB drive somewhere that I could find and get working. I need to pull the trigger and an upgraded workstation as I'd love to include a 5 inch internal drive npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm considering trying navidrome again. The workflow I'm considering is, purchase CD I want then torrent the music files. I don't want to steal. I just do not want to use streaming services for music. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I will vote for whoever is in favor of proportional representation and covering to the metric system. Both are superior to the currently used systems used in the US. 0 for freezing and 100 for boiling??? That's fucking brilliant man. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Def feel that #HomeAssistant isn't for everyone. I love it so please do not nerf advance features to make it easier for non technical users. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Y'all, I'd really love to have a non-Apple and non-Android phone. If I were a billionaire, this would be my pet project. I'd pay a small, dedicated team to create/improve/work on some Linux phone. I'd fund the stupid thing. I don't care if it makes money or not. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hey folks, I created a slash page for my smart home setup! Check it out if that's your jam. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I was trying to come up with something positive to write about on my blog for today but I can't really come up with a blog length topic. Here are some notes about things I'm excited about though. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley cand no more than 20 characters npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley and of course you can't paste passwords.......... ffs npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Can you believe there are still websites that prevent you from pasting? Crazy. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…3s6z I miss old Twitter too. It felt like a global chat and it felt good to be a member. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley My AI Manifesto npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Where can I submit feature requests about this website?! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…r5u3 my blog post about using calbre on Linux to remove DRM is my top post. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…shln I think this is a really great idea. thanks for sharing it. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Re: No AI Badges npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hey #Fediverse what's your fav #Markdown editor? I'm using @nprofile…mmpe and I like it pretty well. I wish I could update or use a different dictionary because the one that's present seems old. It doesn't know about the world 'blog'?? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Heh fine, you're 'protesting' or 'boycotting' or whatever but that doesn't mean it's not also purity culture. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…7cp4 Hi friend, feed is working well for me. I notice the discussion link is still wired up with placeholder link on the web page though. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Meet Mac! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…5g9c I see people on reddit talking about apps sometimes but I use a spreadsheet to log these details. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…rsuu I'd be in favor of whoever wanted to implement such a system here! Also, I'd vote for someone who also wanted to convert the US to the metric system and to abolish daylight savings time. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I don't believe that gerrymandering should be allowed. I don't Democrats should do it and I don't think Republicans should do it. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…va2u they really like to say they're not driving, they're traveling. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…va2u lol yes exactly!! npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Y'all, I've found my way onto these sovereign citizen police badge cam videos on YouTube and oh boy where are these people getting these ideas that they don't need to have registration and drivers licenses for their state? They're all obviously reading the same subreddit because they all pretty much say the same thing. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…sevt If I'm understanding correctly, you have a choice field and you want it to automatically have a value based on the created field. So, if it was create on Today() - 5 years then you want it to be 'Archived' for example. You're using JSON formatting on the library column I presume? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Like most people probably reading this, #IndieWeb is a topic I'm interested in. Portability and identity ownership matter way more than just self-hosting. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I remember back in the Internet Explorer days, how Microsoft was the big bad evil tech corporation. Google was the spunky upstart who's mantra was do no evil. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I believe there's a very good argument for the idea that the US Second Amendment does not mean that US citizens are meant to carry whatever weapon they want without restrictions. We already have restrictions against full automatic weapons. At this point, it's just a matter of arguing where the line should be, not that there shouldn't be a line. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Huh. Does the #Cosmic_DE really not have an option to print the text document? #PoPOS npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley It's dumb that Patreon doesn't give me an option to add my personal site or my mastodon account to my social links section. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley And good grief, don't get me started on music. It's very difficult to buy music from musicians and download the MP3 files. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I remember back when Amazon was a way for authors with a small following to self-publish their own books. I remember thinking that was pretty cool. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…757z really love this. I've been looking for news sources about autonomous cars, semi trucks, freight, and shipping. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…xq2l is the open/close sensor the only sensor available? I run mine off a mmwave sensor and presence detection. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Hey #fediverse, what are some of your favorite, non-main stream #RSS feeds? Ars Technica is probably my favorite and I've been a subscriber for a loooong time. I think they have the perfect ratio of interesting news for nerds like me. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley Ok so I've seen the videos where some LLM can't get the answer right to "how many Rs are in the word strawberry". npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley People can be wrong or dumb on the internet and you don't have to do anything about it, I whisper to myself as I scroll my timeline. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I'm someone who uses "sure" when people ask me questions sometime. I see many people saying this irritates them. Why not just say yes or no, they ask. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…c2rd Hello. They're firearms experts, ex-law enforcement, academics etc and they often review police shootings and such. I say that to say, I've watched a lot of police badge videos and I've heard the reasoning of experts about when law enforcement are justified in using deadly force. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…jwwe which robot did you get? npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley I hear the MAGA types saying there's no such thing as international law and that there's only the law of the jungle, might makes right and all that. npub10a72ltp6hadrzqz2evczselz4t4jzl668a2pe43hxvs6rs98uvcss4f8c3 Michael Harley @nprofile…xtq5 Yes, still very much a thing for me as well.
