The way light hits the building on the left is just perfect. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…d90g 17 Pro npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz How do I know the weather has been absolutely miserable in Lisbon this winter? Because I got this iPhone by the end of December. I saw the screen under direct sunlight for the first time… today. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I don’t get the new mastodon post quoting management. If the author of the post I’m quoting needs to approve the quote, why am I not given the option of also making my own post publishing pending on that approval? Otherwise my post is essentially published with a hole in it. It’s already public but no one can see what I’m quoting so it doesn’t make sense. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…d90g E se houver problemas, é agua que vem de Sintra! Aqueles vidros são demasiado resistentes para se partir simplesmente com o vento. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I’ve been working on recovering this for months! With the absolutely vital help and patience of @nprofile…yh5l, here’s something I thought I would not see ever again. A Timex FDD 3000 (developed and built in Portugal!) loading a game to my old speccy! This is ~40 years old hardware just working (after a bit of maintenance). Aside from recapping, the only chip that had to be replaced was the Speccy Z80 that developed a bad M1 line. #zxspectrum #timex #retrocomputing #sinclair npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Super frustrated with #FreeBSD today. Spent the entire afternoon setting up networking on a jail because the documentation is vastly incomplete, and a bunch of mysterious arguments to disable checksum offloading to the Ethernet card are required (but never mentioned in the documentation) for things to work properly. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…hpsq Ou seja é uma especie de simplificação. A bridge ter IP e na prática ser o host retira a necessidade disso. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz It doesn't matter how many times I look into this, I can't really wrap my head around how network bridges work in FreeBSD and Linux. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Wow Apple removed the security options from Disk Utility's erase panel? I get people might be misusing them with SSDs, but why remove it for spinning disks?! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…d90g Ele e eu. If so, please ping me! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz These have been a few weeks from hell to me. But I already had the tickets, and it was amazing to watch Kruder & Dorfmeister playing the K&D Sessions live in Lisbon today. ❤️ Thank you guys, I needed this. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I may have bought a graphics card for the G5 from eBay by a really great price, and shipped from the EU, described as tested and working, just before going to bed yesterday. Let’s see if it’s up to the claim! It’s the same model I have now, the Radeon 9600 Mac version. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Os jornalistas em Portugal são uma absoluta miséria. Se não houver algo que precisas no catálogo, manda um mail ao Nick para ver se há ainda por catalogar, ou na pior das hipóteses, uma máquina completa. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 I would really appreciate a generic vintage Mac store like those two inside the EU, though… but AFAIK there's nothing. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 For Mac stuff, no (except specific things like BlueSCSI from @nprofile…sgql). npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 http://1bitrainbow.co.uk I already purchased stuff there and it works quite well. You will have to deal with CTT to pay import taxes, though. If the order stands still for too long, just ping Nick, he may be busy shipping his miniature Macs. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz This is the time of the year I miss Vancouver the most. The contrast between the green moss, the tree logs, the yellow, red and brown leaves 🍂 is beautiful. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 Do que vejo da board do 700, isso tem ainda uma série de condensadores SMD: https://www.reddit.com/r/VintageApple/comments/1njuaup/my_quadra_700_has_factory_electrolytic_caps/#lightbox npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 Se forem SMD, não. Se forem trough-hole posso tentar ajudar. Mas tenho pouca experiência, até agora a única coisa da qual fiz um recap completo foi o ZX Spectrum. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Seems legit. Thank you for letting me know, dear. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…qn94 @nprofile…5umk That I don’t, sadly. CD-ROM? ZIP drive? If you need help let me know, I have a bunch of that stuff around and we apparently live nearby. 😄 npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 Ok, não nos encontramos então. Que corra tudo bem e obrigado pelo serviço à nossa democracia! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 Em que mesa vais estar? npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Anyone who has a working #ZXSpectrum 48K, PAL colour system, not a clone, not emulated, but the real thing, can you run: npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Brazil justice system just did what western countries aren’t willing to do anymore. You break the most basic rules of democracy, you end up in jail. It’s simple. Parabéns, Brasil! Well done. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/11/brazil-supreme-court-bolsonaro-guilty-coup npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Yesterday, the Gloria funicular in Lisbon suffered a catastrophic failure that caused 17 dead, so far. This "accident" and its aftermath is certainly going to reveal a lot of the shitshow resulting from the modern mindset of privatization, incompetence and private-car focused politics. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I’ll be 16 years old forever! I still have the source for this thing. Look what I could build with the Toolbox APIs when I was a kid! 😃 Gotta upload this masterpiece to Macintosh Garden some day. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…nrqy Not really emulation, more like a very well integrated virtualization environment. It boots OS 9, that is ready to run in that mode. The OS 9 desktop does not show up and the OS 9 windows are integrated with the OS X windowing system. It’s pretty neat! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…tne7 Wow! As a former Sony fan, I really want one of those! 😃 npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I don’t think I’ll live long enough to ever see a reply to a suggestion I sent to any government-run entity saying “great idea, we’re going to do it, thank you”. Even when what I’m suggesting is the normal practice in many other cities. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMxXtfziAMM npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Ok time to turn all this off since it’s 29°C inside and the disk spinning rate is starting to float quite a bit (although it doesn’t seem to bother it at all). This went really well! Time to give some credit, the screen was ordered from 1-bit rainbow in UK. If you need parts for old Macs, check it out because it has a whole lot of stuff, and it’s much more trustworthy than the random eBay seller. https://www.1bitrainbow.co.uk/ npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Did you ever wonder how your favourite games look in a 1-bit passive matrix display? Of course you did! #RetroApple npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Does anyone know if there’s any place I can use (maker space, etc) in continental Portugal that has a clean bench (ideally laminar flow) I can use for a quick vintage hard drive repair? Ideally in Lisbon but anywhere else will do. #retrocomputing npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I miss how humane the Mac was. Look at that cursor from the classic MacOS installer! Nunca vi outro sítio assim. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…zn0q Como eu costumo dizer, no people, no problem. Compreendo perfeitamente. Tem comboio e tudo! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz The Tagus river, calmly flowing by Vila Nova da Barquinha, Portugal. I didn’t mute the sound, it was that quiet. The only noises are just me being clumsy holding the iPhone. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 Aqui ainda não… npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 Sim, não funciona há já alguns dias, pelo menos. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Lisbon greenhouse. If I had ever visited, I can't recall it. Visited today and loved it. The "cold" greenhouse wasn't, the hot greenhouse felt like hell collided with the sun. 🥵 Despite the extreme temperatures, seriously recommend! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz The end of an era! Removed the cable me and my neighbour used to play games, send messages and share stuff via AppleTalk. Might consider a G4 as well. Ironically I had one in the past (450 MHz bought new, was my main machine for a while through the graduation) my I was foolish to let my parents let go of it. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 Let me know what you’ll be letting go! And put a strake through its hearth to make sure it doesn't come back. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Watching @nprofile…g8y8 videos and adding to my list of places in Europe to visit. This one is incredible, I spent the first few minutes thinking “I wish he hadn’t muted the ambient sound so people could realize how quiet a city without cars is”. Then I realized he didn’t! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-TuGAHR78w npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…66kr 😂 He's right, though! npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz If you're going to be the person who decides to disturb everyone in the street during a peaceful, quiet summer sunday where the only sounds are the wind and the cicadas, by trying to play electric guitar without using headphones, at the very least, play it properly. You suck, dude. You suck really hard. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Using LLM has a search engine when I can’t find the answer on Google is already bad enough. If you are building software by letting these things go wild unattended on your code, I really don’t want your software anywhere near my devices. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 I don't trust APC much. Had a rack-mounted one in our university lab. One day we got there and there was a strong chemical smell all around. It ended up being one of the batteries inside the UPS that, without any previous warning, swelled and starting leaking nasty stuff. It grew in size so much we had to force the enclosure to, huh, stretch a bit so we could remove the battery from within. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz This is a market that really needs someone new to come and redesign these things from scratch. It always feel like you're buying a revision of something designed 20 years ago. I mean, a 2022 model comes with a CD with software. A CD. Who the hell still has a CD-ROM drive? npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz On one hand, I really should buy an UPS. On the other, all the cheap stuff seems like it's going to burn down my place. I'm tempted by Eaton ECO. The PROs are better but they have a continuously running fan that people say is noisy. ECO don't have a fan, but also don't have AVR, so they are completely offline. Seeing people in Spain say <2 year old ECOs turned off immediately when the recent outage started. APC and CyberPower seem even worse. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz @nprofile…30m2 @nprofile…alvl I always loved it! Things were a bit chaotic to say the least but I love so much stuff about that period before steve coming back. Crazy hardware stuff (personality cards!), software (OpenDoc, Cybergod, the 7.5 help system, etc) and design. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I love the Claris style cover art! 😃 npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Fine instruction manuals! If you only speak English, enjoy your battery fire. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz When I was a 10 year old kid or so, living in a country that seemed so distant in every way from California where all the cool things were being made, HyperCard was the trigger that made me understand I could write my own graphical, complex, Mac-feeling apps. I never stopped since then. No other set of ones and zeros was so important for my career and life. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz It's kind of amazing (and certainly depressing) the Portuguese President assaults a woman in the middle of an event with multiple TV cameras pointing at him and this barely makes the news. This is just one more episode in an already long list that should have made him resign or being pushed out immediately. https://expresso.pt/politica/presidente/2025-06-04-nao-me-agarre-o-pescoco-marcelo-rebelo-de-sousa-confrontado-por-mulher-na-feira-do-livro-7f70463b npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz Oh wow! 😻 I fear I may spend way too much money on this website. npub10e8ed0d6jkpmneczwtpfvwtwlr9y3xlkrl750wplmsa7vcr2ce3qvg9pkl Miguel Arroz I've been following MacInTouch for… decades… I don't even know any more. Sad to see the site being paused. I'm hoping Ric brings it back sometime in the feature, but whatever his decision is, I'm thankful for many, many years of great content about the Macintosh and Apple. Instead he had his private jet in Tires, an airport a few km from Lisbon used by many such planes. He and the crew apparently reacted poorly to the mandatory security luggage inspection, with screaming and commotion. Airport staff says even private jet passangers must go through regular security, as legally required. On Basilisk II you can add a redir line to the config file: https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7782
