I don't care if the homeless person we house or the refugee person we welcome is a "good investment".
Humanity is not a business.
I just want as many HUMAN BEINGS to be warm, happy, safe and healthy as possible.
Wrap that up in whatever political affilliation you care too, it's how we should all feel.
Geeze, what is wrong with us??

When I worked for a bank in a previous life, we kept every paper record for decades. Every single one.
To read the old ones we would have to wade through a flooded, rat-filled, asbestosy basement and try to read through the mould layers, but we kept them all, dangnabbit.

Okay I'm slightly too young for that era but I have an NES plugged in to my TV and love it. But **** me, is it hard!
Heck, if I can beat like... Metroid and Ghosts n' Goblins, YOU can do it!

Hey middle-aged and older people.
You know that NES-era game you loved but never beat?
It's time.
It. Is. Time.
You can do it. I believe in you! 😎

When we move back in, we're thinking of setting up a wargaming/gaming table on the cheap.
Ideally, we want a 6 ′ × 4 ′ playing surface (6 ′ × 3 ′ if that's too big).
So I figured a 180 cm long folding table with a hard plastic top and steel legs, fairly light weight.
Then we extend that area with 2 MDF sheets, each 4 ′ × 3 ′ (or 3 ′ × 3 ′). To stop them bowing, I thought 4 wood strengthening beams screwed below, with duct tape edges to stop scuffs.
Should be light and cheap. Any thoughts?

Oooh Majora's Mask... that's a game that deserves a remake. Make it the same only it doesn't crash.

Another thought, Epona was ground-breaking but the novelty of riding a horse around a big empty green space has worn off. It would be nice to give Hyrule Field some actual content. Like Link to the Past and Link's Awakening had way more interesting overworlds.

I'd be okay with that, honestly. OoT is a classic and still one of the best Zelda games to play, buuuuut... like Mario 64, the pioneer controls are good but a little clunky, and the N64's 3D graphics haven't aged well.
All the other anying querks got fixed in the re-releases on Gamecube and DS.

To quote Phelous:
Megatron, drunk on energon cubes: "Ah, Soundwave... remember the good old days on Cybertron? I was turning Autobots into Decepticons with my Robo Smasher..."
Soundwave: "I was there. You never had such a thing as a Robo Smasher."
Megatron: "Ah, shut up Soundwave! At least Omega Supreme believes my story... even though it doesn't make any sense."

I picked up this 1984 kiddies BASIC programming book.
I wasn't alive then, but just for giggles I'm typing out all the programs from it, getting them to run on FreeBASIC, then compiling them.
And it's #FOSS.
Check it out (or help if you fancy): https://codeberg.org/TheJessieKirk/FirstComputerLibrary
AI has sucked a lot of joy out of programming so maybe this will put some back in?
NOTE: It's a work in progress. I'm still adding them from this book, don't have all the books and don't know BASIC well yet 🤪

Please keep posting your art; drawings, paintings, poems, photos, comics, doodles, music, whatever.
Culture is one of the few things that make us remarkable as a species, and of paramount importance it properly aids the preservation of humankind's emotional expression.
And do remember, a computer *cannot* make art.

Hi #FOSS fans, some #Android advice please:
Given how I can't find any information as to the future of #LineageOS after Alphabet closes up Android, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to switch to #eOS.
I need to re-flash my phone anyway in order to update LineageOS, so it's a good time.
I am concerned about app compatibility on /e/OS, like can I use banking apps and such?
Thanks! x

So due to the erm... unique way the DWP is ran, we didn't get any benefit this month. After rent and utilities, we have very little cash for the basics, and so I'm forced to please ask for financial help to last until the end of the month.
Thank you and please do consider retooting 💜 x

Awwww excellent!
I was studying cats just yesterday and was surprised to learn that all domestic cats (Felis catus) are descended from the North African Wildcat (F. lybica lybica) and not F. silvestris. I honestly thought they were a hybrid between the two, as F. silvestris looks like a tabby.
(Although I argue F. catus should be F. lybica catus).

I actually only want a spellcheck and dictionary that is cross-platform (Windows, Android and Linux), especially with custom dictionary support (or at least custom words).
Oh, no AI. Ta x

I blocked "loli.rodeo", which looks like a 4chan-esque troll server.
Go figure with that name.
I'd recommend blocking it. It seems to have stopped most of the trolling I've been getting.
EDIT: tsundere.love, nekosat.work, dsmc.space, loli.church and nightshift.social too. Same 4chan shite.
