"But no federal terrorism case against them existed yet. The federal indictments for terrorism didn't come until October and November, after the executive order and the national security memorandum. The government drew the category knowing they already had people to put inside it.
And so a fiction that once lived in a right-wing conspiracist's Twitter reply now lives in a federal sentencing memorandum. It is why people I know, and care about, may grow old in prison."

Late stage capitalist realism means that your economy becomes progressively dependent on what could only be called public-private works projects. From the war machine to cryptocurrency to LNG expansionism to data centers, we live in an era of completely superfluous production subsidized by the worker, the taxpayer, the consumer, and the environment. All just to keep this train wreck going because that is now a good unto itself.

Why is housing scarcity inevitable because of NIMBY, but not data center scarcity? Why is popularity used to explain away our residential zoning, but seemingly not a factor in industrial zoning? What's the wind in the sails? Could it be that authority rests not in the hands of the people or their representatives, but instead in a cartel of firms? Could it be that the city council, state, and federal legislatures are aligned in the interests of capital formation at the expense of all else?

Sharing this again now that the verdicts have come in.
Nine people will likely spend years of their lives in prison because one person seems to have fired bullets at the ground when a cop had their gun drawn on somebody with their back turned.
People are going to do serious time for attending a protest, waiting in cars, removing people from Signal group chats, and moving some zines.
And the entire case rested on outright lies and the conspiracy theories of an SPLC-designated hate group.

The ball is finally starting to roll on the Denton eco-village and community land trust. Very exciting stuff. Stay posted for updates.

Fearing the short list and waiting for articles to make it to third party archiving slows movement response time beyond what can be justified by police and court documents.
Organized crime goes through all those precautions and gets bagged by an infiltrator who got the boss to like him.
Getting in a car today and meeting someone in-person puts you on the radar of Flock, TXDoT (here in Texas), who knows who else. Threat modeling is situational, hence our avoidance of prescriptions.

Tor does a great job balancing these concerns with the convenience of being able to access documents in real time.

I understand why they want to do it. The old way was to use protests as the wide end of a funnel into their donor pools, their volunteer programs, their canvassing campaigns, etc. Lists of contacts that you could retain after the fact and tap into over and over again to build out your own network felt like a huge win. The problem is that these tactics haven't actually achieved the desired capacity within the movement, and they are now in most cases more hazardous than helpful.

If you needed a clearer indication of the real function of this trial, look no further than this man. If you have ever seen his name before, it is likely because he penned this godforsaken document conflating mutual aid with terrorism.
https://centerforsecuritypolicy.org/risks-abound-as-antifa-aligned-mutual-aid-groups-respond-to-texas-storms/
This trial is the culmination of years of demonizing any form of of bottom-up movement building on the left. What is being decided is nothing more than whether we have any right to resist at all.

Demands that would empower children.
1. Algorithm transparency so we can stop companies from presenting vulnerable groups to their existential adversaries just to make number go up.
2. More time for parents to spend with kids (higher minimum wage, social safety net, shorter workday, etc.) because there is no internet that is safe enough to live a kid on unattended.
3. Livable cities so Roblox doesn't feel more free/attainable than going to the park, the library, the city center, or the creek.

Development on this is not limited to the Denton area btw. If you want to work on an open-source, privacy-oriented, distraction-free device that balances user-friendliness, cost, and ease of construction, hit us up on Signal or something.

A government does not announce that they have become fascist. They announce that anti-fascists are enemies of the state.

and in North Texas we see a hell of a lot more frack pads and oil wells than wind turbines. Our city actually banned fracking by popular vote, and the state railroad commissioner overturned it!

If you want to stick it to the fascists, help houseless people. Help immigrants. Help abortion seekers.
If you want to confront the powerful, you need a coalition. To build a coalition, you need to demonstrate that having you as an ally is more of an asset than a liability. This means doing your best while learning how to do better.
We are in a time of monsters. The challenges will not cease, nor will the opportunities. There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.

"How do we fight this system?"
By building power.
"How do we build power?"
By organizing productive and reproductive labor in a way that reduces value capture by our enemies.
"How do we organize labor in such a way?"
Decommodification, mutual aid, lending libraries, popular assembly, and various other strategies leftists have been trying to tell you about.
"How do we establish these institutions?"
Most of them exist in some way and merely need to be expanded. Find them and contribute.

In our talk with the Denton library board a few months ago, we discussed exactly this problem. We advocated for municipally run, federated social media. If every city was running a Mastodon instance right now, we would be having a different conversation entirely.
Fully hosted setups such as https://masto.host only require non-technical moderation. These solutions cost as little as five cents per user per month. Coupled with library quality placemaking, we could finally establish a virtual commons worthy of the investment.
Building out municipally federating social media infrastructure would solve the Elon problem while also dealing with several Fediverse downsides. Most of those downsides are social, not technical, in origin - poor moderation, instance implosions, unassisted learning curves, lacking network effect, etc. This could be easily solved by public investment and stewardship.
Social media is public information infrastructure. A huge part of our society's epistemic crisis is that we are leaving many people's primary access to information in the hands of the very people who most benefit from them being misinformed. We can solve that for pennies a month.
