The courts have maintained a steady performance, with a 22% increase in the total number of cases, reaching 396 cases, compared to 325 cases in the first quarter of 2025. Thanks to the implementation of 99% of remote judicial procedures, the courts have continued to operate smoothly, ensuring uninterrupted access to justice for companies and individuals alike. The Dubai International Financial Centre Courts, from January to March 2026, recorded 396 cases across various departments, with an average total value of 13.3 million dirhams per case. The main court and specialized departments recorded 50 cases, with an average value of 91.8 million dirhams per case, and a total value of 3 billion dirhams. This performance comes within the framework of the new strategic direction of the courts, which focuses on expanding access to justice, improving judicial services, and solidifying the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts' reputation as a preferred platform for resolving commercial and civil disputes, and capable of keeping pace with the rapid changes in the regional and global business environment. The strong performance of the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts in the first quarter of 2026 reflects the continued trust of litigants, business circles, and the legal community in our judicial system, as well as the practical impact of our new strategic directions, which aim to enhance access to justice, improve operational efficiency, and develop a more agile and responsive judicial system. The Dubai International Financial Centre Courts' achievements today extend beyond indicators of growth in the number and value of cases, but also encompass their role as a supportive institution for Dubai's competitiveness, and a vital source of legal confidence that underpins the business and investment environment. The statistics highlight the significant demand for the courts' jurisdiction, with parties from outside the centre's jurisdiction opting to resort to the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts on a contractual basis to resolve their disputes, with a percentage of 46% in the main court, 33% in the small claims court, and 33% in the arbitration court. The Los Angeles Sparks lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in a double-digit game in their second match of the Western Conference Playoffs, with French star Victor Wembanyama exiting the game in the second quarter due to a concussion protocol. The Sparks had lost the first game 98-111 on their home court, but the Trail Blazers came back to win 106-103 at the Frost Bank Center in Texas, taking advantage of Wembanyama's absence. Wembanyama, 22, collided with Portland's Jusuf Nurkić and fell to the ground, where he remained for several minutes before getting up and heading to the locker room. He did not return to the game. The Sparks took a 14-point lead 93-79 with just over eight minutes remaining, but struggled to maintain it, and the Trail Blazers took advantage of Wembanyama's absence to win the game. Scottie Barnes led the Trail Blazers with 31 points, while Jusuf Nurkić added 16. After the game, Barnes told NBC Sports that "basketball always rewards those who play the right way." The series is now tied 1-1, with the next game scheduled for Friday in Portland. In the Eastern Conference, Tyrese Maxey and D'Angelo Russell combined for 59 points, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 111-97 win over the Boston Celtics, tying the series 1-1. Russell added 30 points, including 10 rebounds and two assists, while Maxey scored 29 points, including five three-pointers. The win came after the 76ers lost the first game 91-123, with coach Doc Rivers calling their performance 'unacceptable.' After the win, Rivers said, 'I think we played a better team defense tonight.' Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 36 points, while Jayson Tatum was the only other Celtic to score in double figures with 19. The series is now tied 1-1, with the next game scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia.

Kré Christian Kouamé, a 19-year-old Cameroonian international, has attracted the attention of some of the world's top clubs with his impressive performance for Bayer Leverkusen this season. Despite joining the German club on a relatively modest transfer fee of €5.25 million from Albacete, Kouamé was unknown before his arrival. However, it appears that Leverkusen has discovered a precious gem, and it may struggle to hold onto him during the summer transfer window. Kouamé did not play a single minute of professional football until the start of 2025, but he has shone since joining Albacete and scored 8 goals in the Spanish second division. Leverkusen viewed Kouamé as a player who needed development when they signed him, but he has established himself as a key player in the team. He is now in high demand, with Arsenal and Real Madrid among the clubs interested in him. After adapting to one of the top five leagues, Kouamé has developed from a substitute to a regular starter, playing in 19 of Leverkusen's 42 matches in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League. He has scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists this season, averaging a contribution every 127 minutes. Kouamé's performance is not just about scoring goals, but also about the way he uses his body and physical strength to create space for his teammates, making him a unique and rare player. He is now considered one of the top young forwards in Europe, and his combination of speed, skill, and defensive ability makes him a highly sought-after talent. Leverkusen is expected to demand between €60-70 million for the Cameroonian talent this summer, which may deter some clubs. However, Kouamé is undoubtedly a promising talent, and several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on him. Reports from Germany suggest that Real Madrid is also interested, while Bayern Munich is monitoring his development. Despite Leverkusen's ongoing battle to qualify for a European competition this season, Kouamé may be one of the talents they sell for a massive fee.

Shabab Al-Ahli (Abu Dhabi) submits a formal protest to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) following a dramatic incident in the second half of their match against Japanese side Mito Hollyhock in the AFC Champions League semi-final, which they lost 1-0. The incident occurred in the 93rd minute when Shabab Al-Ahli's equalizing goal was disallowed by the Australian referee after a VAR review, citing an error in the substitution procedure by the Japanese team. The decision sparked widespread controversy and protests from the Shabab Al-Ahli players, coaches, and fans, who claimed that the referee's decision was incorrect and that the goal should have been allowed. The team's officials stated that the referee had allowed the play to continue before the goal was scored, which according to the laws of the game, would make the situation subject to the 'additional time' rule, rather than an administrative error that would warrant the disallowing of the goal. The AFC's regulations define a protest as a formal complaint about an incident that directly affects the match, and must be submitted in writing within a specified timeframe. The protest was submitted to the AFC, which will review the incident and make a decision. Shabab Al-Ahli has the right to appeal the decision to the AFC's appeal committee if their protest is rejected. The incident has sparked widespread controversy and debate, with many experts and fans questioning the referee's decision and calling for a thorough investigation. The outcome of the protest and the potential implications for the match are still uncertain, with all options remaining open, including the possibility of a replay or the result standing.

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Khartoum, Denise Brown, has stated that humanitarian agencies are facing extreme challenges in performing their duties in areas of conflict in Sudan. Access to some areas has become almost impossible, citing the city of Dilling in South Kordofan, where operations were suspended again after a brief period during which convoys and humanitarian aid were sent. Brown stated in an interview with the Union that obtaining access remains a continuous challenge, amidst the permanent need to negotiate with parties on the ground, emphasizing that humanitarian work is not political, but rather focuses on delivering aid to civilians. She noted that the challenges do not only extend to field restrictions, but also to logistical ones, pointing out that Sudan is a vast country, making the delivery of aid through roads or borders a costly and time-consuming process, and becoming even more difficult during the rainy season to the point of near impossibility. The official added that the lack of funding represents an additional significant obstacle to humanitarian operations, in addition to access challenges, and that these challenges often coincide, limiting the ability of humanitarian agencies to respond effectively to the crisis. She also mentioned that the United Nations has documented the deaths of approximately 6,000 people during a three-day period during the evacuation of civilians from the city of Fasher in October 2023, noting that this number is an underestimation, as the actual figure is higher, due to the inability of human rights teams to access the city, reflecting a clear gap in documentation. She pointed out that the independent fact-finding mission of the Human Rights Council has spoken of genocide-like features, and that the description of genocide is a legal definition subject to judicial procedures, but the signs on the ground are alarming, noting that the cumulative effect of these events paints a picture of extreme brutality of the war on civilians. Brown emphasized that what is being referred to as a humanitarian crisis is not just a term, but a daily reality that leaves deep physical and psychological scars that can last for decades, and what is happening represents a physical pain, psychological suffering, and long-term shock, pointing out that during her stay in Dilling in South Kordofan in March, she witnessed a scene that reflects the harsh reality of life under bombardment, where children who were playing soccer suddenly ran back to their homes as soon as the bombing started, and the town fell silent, before returning to play again once the bombing stopped, in a scene that reflects a reality that should not be lived by children.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced yesterday that a fire broke out in a camp for internally displaced persons in North Darfur, western Sudan, causing the destruction of 105 shelters and partial damage to 37 others, forcing dozens of families to flee again. The fire started in the "Al-Imam" camp in the town of Tawila in North Darfur, according to an IOM statement. The statement said that the fire led to the displacement of 142 families, without giving details on casualties or the cause of the fire, noting that the displaced families have been relocated to open areas within the same region, and that monitoring teams are closely following the developments. This is the second such incident in a week in displacement camps in Darfur, where a fire broke out on April 14 in a camp in the town of Qureida in South Darfur, causing the destruction and partial damage of 454 shelters, and the displacement of hundreds of families. Such incidents have been recurring in displacement camps in recent times, according to the Sudanese Commissioner-General for Refugees and Displaced Persons, and are attributed to narrow roads and dense housing, leading to significant damage and losses.

Dr. Muhammad Ahmad bin Fahad, Chairman of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, stated that the UAE is proud to launch a series of strategic initiatives, including expanding renewable energy, establishing natural reserves, and implementing afforestation and environmental restoration programs. This came on the occasion of Earth Day, which is celebrated worldwide on April 22nd every year to raise awareness about environmental protection and climate change. The UAE has set a global model for adopting quality policies and projects to conserve natural resources and achieve sustainable development. Dr. Fahad emphasized that the UAE is proud of its establishment of natural reserves, afforestation, and environmental restoration programs, highlighting the 'Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park' as one of the world's most prominent projects in the field of clean energy, alongside the Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. He added that all these projects contribute to reducing emissions and enhancing energy security, noting that the country has worked to protect biodiversity by establishing more than 49 terrestrial and marine reserves, as well as a global gene bank project in Dubai, marking a significant step towards a future of advanced genetic preservation. In the agricultural sector, the UAE has supported sustainable and smart agricultural technologies, including aquaculture and vertical farming, to reduce water consumption and enhance food security. This indicates that the country does not view environmental protection as an annual event, but rather as a continuous developmental path that integrates with its 2031 vision and international climate commitments. This year's celebration comes under the slogan 'Restore the Earth', which aligns with the UAE's efforts to revitalize ecosystems, expand green spaces, and support innovation in energy, water, and environmental fields, as well as promote community participation in adopting sustainable practices. The Earth Day organization (EARTHDAY.ORG) announced that this year's slogan focuses on highlighting the role of individuals and communities in addressing climate change, reflecting popular support for climate action at all levels.

Fatima Al-Atfah (Abu Dhabi) organized a cultural institution called "Bahrain of Culture" at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, where Dr. Suleiman Al-Daher, a professor of Greek philosophy at the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Human Sciences, spoke. The session was moderated by Sheikha Al-Shami, who emphasized that the journey of human civilizations has taken science as a fundamental basis for progress and advancement, and that Islamic civilization is a prime example of this, representing one of the most prominent models that made science a central value and a comprehensive cultural project. Islamic thought began from a deep appreciation of science as a means of understanding the universe and a tool for building a balanced society based on knowledge and creativity. Dr. Suleiman Al-Daher started his speech by explaining the concept of science and its importance, pointing out that this civilization originated from the Arabian Peninsula because it was surrounded by water from three sides, and the people's skills, whether they were immigrants or remained, led to the establishment of the Islamic state and its expansion to Andalusia. He emphasized the importance of science and scientific knowledge in Islamic civilization, explaining that the concept of "science" in its modern sense dates back to the 19th century, while knowledge is broader than that, and is considered by philosophers as a concept that represents something in the mind. Science is therefore any knowledge that a person can prove, and Dr. Al-Daher continued his speech by pointing out that the scope of knowledge is very wide, encompassing more than science, citing the definition of the Oxford Dictionary, which describes science as "a systematic and interconnected network of classified facts that are governed by general laws and rely on trusted methods to discover new facts within the scope of study".

London (DPA) - Reports have emerged that Dutch manager Arne Slot is expected to remain in charge of Liverpool's English team for the next season. Sky Sports network revealed on Tuesday that doubts about the Dutch coach's future began to fade quickly as the gap between Liverpool, who are currently fifth in the table, and Chelsea, who are sixth, widened to seven points, making it likely for the team to secure a spot in the Champions League. Slot, who led Liverpool to win the Premier League title last season, has faced pressure during his second season, with the team expected to finish without any title. Former Liverpool player Jimmy Carragher said in the 'Monday Night Football' program on Sky Sports that 'Arne Slot's job has been a topic of discussion throughout the season, and we've talked about it a lot. There's a possible divide among Liverpool fans about whether he should stay or leave, but the voices I've heard suggest that Slot will be Liverpool's coach for the next season if the team manages to secure a spot in the Champions League, which seems likely at the moment.'

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) hosted a specialized session that tackled one of the most prominent challenges faced by growing companies, which is the excessive reliance on founders and the importance of having organized operational systems to support sustainable growth. The session, titled "From Chaos to Organization: How to Maintain the Smooth Operation of Your Business Amidst Pressures", brought together entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized business owners, and decision-makers at the Compass Business Center to discuss ways to transition from models based on reaction and founder-led leadership to organized systems that rely on clear procedures. The session was chaired by Mahmoud Ghrarad, an expert in customer experience and organizational differentiation at RAKEZ, and Berdia Qamarwali, the CEO of Centigen Technologies, who reviewed the most significant operational challenges that hinder growth. The speakers highlighted that many companies do not suffer from a lack of demand as much as they face challenges related to the concentration of knowledge, decisions, and core operations in the hands of the founder, which leads to decreased efficiency and difficulty in sustainable expansion. Rami Jallad, the CEO of RAKEZ, said that our focus is on empowering companies to operate clearly, flexibly, and confidently at every stage of their journey, and we continue to develop our services and initiatives to provide entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and environment necessary to build strong foundations and achieve sustainable growth. This session is part of RAKEZ's ongoing efforts to provide operational insights that meet the needs of the business community, offer interactive platforms that facilitate the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and contribute to enhancing the efficiency of company operations in a dynamic business environment.

Arsenal has been leading the Premier League table this season, but this may change soon as the team received a strong blow after losing to Manchester City. Throughout most of this season, Mikel Arteta's team was on the verge of ending a 22-year wait to win the Premier League title. About a month ago, Arsenal extended their lead to 10 points in the table after defeating Everton. However, things turned upside down, as Manchester City started to catch up, and narrowed the gap to just 3 points after their victory on Sunday. This gap will disappear completely if City wins against Burnley on Wednesday, which would mean Manchester City would win the title, making it the second time Arsenal would miss out on the title by a narrow margin at the end of the season, despite leading for most of the time. If Manchester City wins as expected, it would be a bitter disappointment for Arsenal fans. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola's team has only been leading the table for 6 days this season. Arsenal led the table for 207 days, which is even more impressive considering the 2025/26 season lasted for 247 days. If Manchester City wins, it would be a crushing blow to Arsenal's hopes. Under Mikel Arteta's leadership, Arsenal has been a strong contender for the title, but has yet to win it. The team has finished second in the last three seasons, twice behind Manchester City and once behind Liverpool. If Arsenal fails to win the title, it would be one of the most disappointing seasons for the team in recent years. The team has been in first place for 531 days under Arteta's leadership, but has not won any trophies in the league. Manchester City, on the other hand, has been in first place for only 174 days, but has won the title twice in a row in 2023 and 2024. The worst performance for Arsenal so far was finishing second in the 2022/23 season, when they led the table for 248 days before Manchester City took the title. The picture becomes clearer when looking at the total time Arsenal has spent in first place under Arteta's leadership. Since taking over, his team has led the table for 538 days, while Manchester City has led for 477 days during this period. With only 5 games left for Arsenal and Arteta to silence their critics, will they finally turn these statistics into a reality?

Apple announced on Monday the appointment of John Ternus, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, as its new CEO, in a move that paves the way for a major change in the leadership of the iPhone maker after 15 years under Tim Cook's leadership. Cook, who succeeded Steve Jobs in 2011, is set to become Executive Chairman of the company. Apple said this change will take effect from September 1. Ternus, 50, has been the top contender to succeed Cook, despite conflicting reports about the timing of the transition, with several reports in recent months indicating that Cook may step down soon. During his tenure, Cook expanded Apple's product lineup, including smartwatches and the "AirPods Pro", while continuing to generate massive revenues from devices like iPhones and Mac computers. Cook described leading Apple as "the greatest privilege" of his life and described Ternus as "the right person to lead Apple into the future". With Ternus' appointment, Apple returns to choosing a successor from within its ranks.

The US Embassy in Iraq stated yesterday that Iraqi terrorist militias allied with Iran are planning additional attacks against Americans and US-related targets across Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The embassy said in a statement that 'some entities affiliated with the Iraqi government are still providing political, financial, and operational cover for these terrorist militias' without mentioning which entities. The embassy warned American citizens planning to travel to Iraq by air to be aware of the ongoing risks of rockets, drones, and artillery fire in the Iraqi airspace. The embassy has previously issued multiple warnings to its citizens in Iraq of the risk of attacks or kidnapping in the context of the US-Israeli war against Iran, urging everyone to leave Iraq.

A Brazilian study by the University of São Paulo (USP) has found that tissues like tonsils and adenoids are the preferred reservoir for the Rhinovirus, the main cause of common cold and most respiratory infections worldwide. The study, which analyzed samples from 293 children who underwent surgery to remove their tonsils and adenoids due to tonsillitis, sleep apnea, or recurrent infections, found that at the time of surgery, none of the children showed symptoms, but the researchers discovered the virus in 46% of them, either in their tonsils, adenoids, or nasal secretions. Previously, scientists believed that the virus only infects the surface layer of the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa, then penetrates the cell and forces it to produce copies of itself until it bursts, triggering an immune response that eliminates it within 5 to 7 days. The new discovery shows that the virus can reach the deep layers of the tonsils and adenoids, infecting B lymphocytes, responsible for producing antibodies, and helper T cells that lead the immune response. Instead of killing these cells, the virus remains dormant inside them for a long time, similar to the behavior of herpes viruses and human papillomavirus.

Abu Dhabi (UAE) - Ahmed Al Awadi, Deputy CEO of Commercial and Industrial Development at Adnoc, confirmed that the National Content Program has succeeded in redirecting over AED 473 billion to the national economy, including AED 307 billion through Adnoc, since its launch in 2018. This was announced during his participation in the Abu Dhabi Global Entrepreneurship Festival, which kicked off today in Abu Dhabi. Al Awadi highlighted that the program was launched with the aim of redirecting purchases within the national economy, which has enabled national companies to work within the Adnoc supply chain and logistics system. He added that the National Content Program contributes to the development of the entrepreneurship ecosystem and building local companies that can compete globally, noting that the industrial sector is one of the most important sectors that entrepreneurs should focus on, given the opportunities it provides to achieve self-sufficiency in national priority sectors. Adnoc has played a key role in the 'Make in the UAE' platform since its launch in 2022, and has strengthened its role with each edition, becoming a main partner and enabler of the platform through its business volume and related supply chains, as well as its clear vision for demand and procurement, which has contributed to turning opportunities into industrial projects and enabling manufacturers and investors to expand confidently within the country. This role has been reflected through Adnoc's program to promote national content, particularly through the 'offtake' program, which focuses on identifying imported products that can be locally manufactured through long-term purchase contracts. Adnoc has identified opportunities for national manufacturing worth AED 90 billion by 2030, and has signed contracts worth over AED 80 billion in the past. The Romanian Football Federation announced on Monday that it has appointed its former star player Gheorghe Hagi as the new coach of the national team, returning to the bench he started his coaching career from 25 years ago. Hagi, 61, was one of the best players in the world during his peak in the 1980s and 1990s, and will replace coach Mirel Rădoi, who left his position earlier this month after Romania's loss to Turkey in the World Cup qualifying match. Rădoi passed away at the age of 80 just five days after his departure from the team. The Romanian Football Federation announced that Hagi has signed a contract until 2030, and will lead the team through the qualifying matches for the 2028 European Championship and the 2030 World Cup. Romania will play two friendly matches against Georgia and Wales in June, before starting their journey in the second tier of the European Nations League in September. Hagi, known as 'Maradona of the Carpathians', played 124 matches for Romania, and participated in three World Cups and three European Championships. He is the country's all-time leading scorer, alongside Adrian Mutu, with 35 goals. During his playing career, he defended the colors of Steaua Bucharest, Real Madrid, and Barcelona before retiring at the age of 36 with Galatasaray in 2001. After a month of retirement, Hagi took over the Romanian team and led them in four matches, including the World Cup qualifying match, which they lost to Slovenia, leading to his resignation. Hagi coached Galatasaray twice and won the Turkish Cup. He also founded a team in Romania under the name Viitorul Constanța, which rose to the top division and later merged with Farul Constanța. He coached the team for over a decade until last year, winning two league titles.

The Ugandan army announced on Monday that Ugandan and Congolese soldiers were able to free at least 200 civilians during an attack on a camp belonging to a terrorist group in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo last week. The individuals were being held by a group active in eastern Congo, which is linked to the Islamic State terrorist organization. According to UN data, the group has killed thousands of civilians in eastern Congo since it launched attacks in 2014. The Congolese army said the group is responsible for kidnapping large numbers of civilians. The Ugandan People's Defence Force, in a statement, said that among those freed from the camp on the banks of the Ebolo River was a 14-year-old girl. The spokesperson, Chris Magezi, said the operation was carried out last week. The statement said 'many of them were weak, suffering from untreated illnesses such as malaria, respiratory infections, and severe exhaustion.' Uganda deployed troops to the Congo in 2021 to help combat the radical group.

The Emirates Development Bank has announced a record-breaking monthly funding of AED 1 billion, which will contribute to enhancing the UAE's status as a safe and attractive economic hub. The bank continues to implement its long-term vision to ensure the resilience of the national economy, despite the challenges faced by the global trade sector and the increasing geopolitical complexities. The bank's President and CEO, Ahmed Mohammed Al Naqbi, emphasized that the country's economic foundation is built on forward-thinking planning and vision, rather than reaction. He added that the achievement of this funding milestone reflects the bank's ability to execute its vision on a wide scale, by supporting successful national companies and vital infrastructure projects that contribute to shaping the country's economic future. The bank's efforts aim to achieve sustainable growth in its financial portfolio, driven by precise credit risk analysis and modeling, with the ultimate goal of building a strong and integrated industrial base that is not affected by external global pressures. The bank's strategy focuses on providing value-added financing, rather than simply expanding its balance sheet, and has identified five priority sectors for strategic investments, including manufacturing, food security, renewable energy, healthcare, and advanced technology. The bank's approach is reflected in its investments in advanced smart network technologies owned by Asia Soft Holding, and the Novo Power Station project owned by Emirates Water and Electricity Company, which directly support the country's transition to clean energy and enhance its technological independence. To ensure that this level of capital is directed towards the most in need projects, the bank has implemented several key structural updates, including the liberalization of liquidity policy, relaxing loan approval requirements to accelerate access to funding, and improving financing and capital frameworks to support companies in the current dynamic economic environment. The measures aim to enable the bank to respond quickly to market demands, while strengthening its role as a growth driver and supporter of industrial resilience. The bank will continue to expand its operations within the AED 300 billion project, solidifying its position as a key partner in shaping the future of industry in the UAE, by providing long-term funding and strategic capital needed to enhance the UAE's status as a world-class economic hub.

Jerusalem (Occupied) - Hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem yesterday, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, which imposed strict military measures that prevented worshipers and visitors from reaching the mosque. In this context, Palestinian Deputy President Hussein al-Sheikh called yesterday for ensuring the freedom of worshipers to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in occupied Jerusalem, warning of Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank. Sheikh made the remarks during a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, after a previous meeting with Greek Foreign Minister George Giatritsis, according to the official news agency 'Wafa', without specifying the date and duration of the visit. The agency reported that Sheikh discussed with the Greek Prime Minister developments in Palestinian territories and the region, as well as the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and ways to boost bilateral relations. Sheikh called for ensuring the freedom of worshipers to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and preserving the legal and historical status of the holy sites.

The Abu Dhabi Education Council announces the resumption of in-person learning for public and private school students in the country, following a temporary period of remote learning due to the previous regional circumstances. This comes as part of a comprehensive operational system adopted by the Ministry of Education, which includes clear definitions of the roles and responsibilities of school administrators, educational staff, and parents, ensuring the safety of students and continuity of the educational process in all circumstances. The Ministry emphasized that school administrators will take the lead in implementing procedures and ensuring precise field implementation, through the activation of all approved instructions and controls, and the adoption of emergency plans and evacuation procedures from the relevant authorities. They will also identify internal safe zones, set up guidance signs and maps, and continuously monitor the educational field to ensure compliance with procedures and detect any operational gaps and address them immediately. Educational staff will also be responsible for monitoring the readiness of educational staff to implement emergency plans, training them on rapid response procedures, and providing guidance on safety procedures and evacuation protocols. They will also prepare informative and educational materials that explain safety and security procedures and update parent contact records to ensure prompt communication in case of need, and ensure that parents or guardians sign a declaration or commitment to return their children to in-person learning. Regarding educational staff and supervisors, the Ministry emphasized that they will be directly responsible for handling students, through strict adherence to procedures and instructions, and providing continuous guidance on safety procedures and emergency response protocols. They will also provide psychological and emotional support to students, especially during emergency notifications or when they feel anxious or scared, and work to calm them down and guide them in a calm and composed manner. The Ministry also emphasized that educational staff will organize student movements and ensure their safe transfer to safe zones, ensure their compliance with safety procedures while maintaining discipline within those zones, and prepare detailed and up-to-date lists of student names and numbers upon the end of the emergency or crisis, and submit reports to the administration immediately to ensure everyone's safety. In terms of parents, the Ministry emphasized the importance of their role in supporting the success of in-person learning, through familiarization with the guide, cooperation with the administration, and compliance with instructions during emergency periods, and adherence to official instructions issued by authorities during emergency periods. The Ministry also emphasized that clarity of roles and responsibilities between school and family is a fundamental pillar for ensuring a safe and stable educational environment that can handle various scenarios effectively and respond promptly. The Ministry has launched a specialized training program for educational staff to enhance institutional readiness to handle emergency situations and ensure the continuity of the educational process in a safe environment. The training program has identified 7 main objectives, including mastering effective communication protocols with the administration and parents during emergency situations, familiarizing themselves with the basics of crisis management and educational disasters, and enhancing skills in handling injuries through providing basic first aid and managing cases during evacuation. The training program has also focused on implementing evacuation procedures, leading students safely through designated routes to assembly points, providing initial psychological support to students in cases of anxiety or fear, and reinforcing understanding of official protocols for emergency procedures issued by the Ministry of Education and the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA). The Ministry has also identified 4 main stages in managing the return to in-person learning in exceptional circumstances, starting with the preparation stage, which includes preparing buildings, ensuring emergency exit readiness, identifying safe zones, and training staff and distributing roles and responsibilities. The return to in-person learning stage is based on flexibility in handling attendance and departure, monitoring the overall situation, promoting caution and responsibility, and implementing approved protocols. The response stage involves implementing evacuation or sheltering according to the situation, and managing the event directly. The recovery stage focuses on the gradual return to the educational process, providing psychological support and evaluation, ensuring the stability of the educational environment and restarting learning efficiently.

Iran's interventions in the affairs of other countries over the past decades have led to a rise in regional tensions, where Tehran has adopted a policy of supporting its arms in various arenas, which has destabilized stability and undermined the sovereignty of countries. The UAE, during its participation in the 152nd session of the International Parliamentary Union in Istanbul, warned of the latest escalation in the region and Iran's threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital passageway for global energy and trade flows. This step goes beyond the regional framework and has far-reaching consequences for the global economy and supply chains. Iran's behavior raises serious questions about the possibility of building balanced relations in the region, given the absence of clear signs of a change in these policies. Therefore, the UAE's clear position remains that it is impossible to return to the previous pace in relations without a review, reassurance, and guarantees, and rejecting the state of tension, threats, and aggression as a new reality.

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a US Navy destroyer fired on an Iranian ship flying the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Oman and then took control of it after it attempted to break a US-imposed blockade on ships coming from or going to Iranian ports. Trump wrote on his 'Truth Social' platform that the Iranian ship ignored orders to stop, leading the destroyer equipped with guided missiles to 'stop it completely by creating a gap in the engine room'. He added that 'currently, US Marine Corps are in control of the ship' and are 'searching what's on board'. Trump explained that the ship was warned by a US Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Oman to stop, but it did not respond.

Istanbul - The Arab Parliament Speaker, Dr. Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, has urged the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network to take a decisive and clear stance against the Palestinian prisoners' execution law, emphasizing that the network represents the conscience of the free world, and the least it can do is issue a resolution rejecting and condemning this despicable law, mobilizing international efforts to ensure it is not implemented, and including the resolution in the conference's documents. Al-Yamahi added in his speech before the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network conference in Istanbul: 'We cannot imagine that this international parliamentary gathering, which has long championed just causes, would not have a clear stance on a discriminatory law that sanctions the execution of thousands of innocent prisoners in full view of the entire world.' On the main topic listed on the conference agenda under the title 'Adaptation to Climate Change and Resilience in the Face of Its Consequences', the Arab Parliament Speaker emphasized that 'this issue is no longer a choice, but a pressing necessity imposed by the rapid challenges facing our cities, and obliges us to strengthen legislative frameworks that integrate climate change considerations in urban planning.'

The Egyptian Olympic Committee announced through its media center on Sunday that the approval of the charter comes within the committee's orientation towards 'widening the participation base and giving athletes a larger space to express their opinions and needs, which will positively impact the sports environment and performance level in various sports.' The committee emphasized that the charter represents an official platform for presenting visions and proposals, ensuring effective communication between athletes and administrative bodies, and enhancing transparency and governance within the sports system. The charter also aims to prepare athletic cadres capable of representing their peers locally and internationally, in line with the International Olympic Committee's orientations in supporting the role of athletes in decision-making in sports. Al-Ahli Saudi FC and Al-Ahli Jeddah, the current champions, are seeking to reach the final of the Asian Champions League when they face Japanese teams Vissel Kobe and Matsumoto Yamaga in the semifinals. The two matches will be played on the 27th and 28th of this month at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah. Al-Ahli Saudi FC is looking to continue its impressive run in the tournament, seeking to overcome its domestic disappointments, when it faces Matsumoto Yamaga. Al-Ahli Jeddah's chances of winning the local championships have decreased after losing 2-3 to Al-Ain in the 22nd round of the Pro League, leaving them four points behind the leaders with four games remaining. Al-Ahli Saudi FC, the three-time champion of the past season, has also lost its titles in the UAE, the Gulf Cup, and the Super Cup. The team's coach, Paulo Sousa, expressed his satisfaction after his team overcame a tough test, saying: "We had many chances, but our goalkeeper made many saves, including a crucial one from Yuri Cesar. However, when we were leading 2-0, we couldn't maintain our control and allowed them to come back. We lost our balance inside the team, but we regained it through substitutions. From a technical and tactical standpoint, we were good and created chances. I'm not fully satisfied, but I'm happy with this result." Sousa added: "We always want to play attacking football and score many goals. We've scored three goals twice now, and from this aspect, things are going well for us." On the other hand, Matsumoto Yamaga's coach, João Carlos, attributed his team's victory over Al-Hilal to his players' unity, saying: "This was our first major station, and it was a huge one. The game was very tough, but I'm very happy that all the players were united and kept a clean sheet. I'm very proud of them." He added: "We presented a situation that reflects the fruit of our daily work. We knew we wouldn't have many chances, so we exploited our opportunities and kept a clean sheet. This is our way of playing, and I'm very proud of the team." Al-Ahli Jeddah is relying on its home advantage and the support of its fans to reach the final for the fourth time in its history and the second consecutive time, and to continue its campaign to defend its title, which it won for the first time last season. Although Al-Ahli Jeddah did not show its best form in its first match against Al-Duhail in the quarterfinals, it managed to win and improve its performance in its second match against Johor Darul Ta'zim, turning a deficit into a 2-1 win despite being a man down, and is looking forward to overcoming the obstacle of Vissel Kobe, which turned a 1-3 deficit into a 3-3 draw before winning 4-3 on penalties against Al Sadd in the quarterfinals. Al-Ahli Jeddah relies on a star-studded lineup, including goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, English defender Ivan Toney, Brazilian midfielder Roger Ibáñez, Ivorian forward Frank Kessié, and Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez. The team's coach, Matthias Jaissle, and midfielder Kessié agreed that qualifying for the semifinals was the most important thing, regardless of their performance against Johor Darul Ta'zim. Jaissle acknowledged that Al-Ahli Jeddah needs to improve if it wants to win the title for the second consecutive time, saying: "We qualified for the next round despite a tough and close game. It's not easy to play after a red card, but the players showed great mentality and discipline, and the fans gave us an extra boost." He added: "Until the red card, we didn't give our best performance. We needed to put more pressure on the five-man defense of Johor, but it's not easy. We see in football today that teams defend deeply, and we need to be patient. We can improve in this area, but we qualified, and that's what's most important."

It was an easy matter for Al-Ahly's youth team to qualify for the Asian Champions League semi-finals, winning 3-2 against Thai side Buriram United yesterday, marking the second time in their history and the first since 2015 when they finished as runners-up. The 42 million-euro valued team, which boasts a star-studded lineup, found itself in a tough test against the 12 million-euro valued Buriram side, but played with a character bigger than the numbers. They managed to equalize the score in regular time and take the match to extra time. The start of the match saw Al-Ahly dominate in terms of possession and shots on goal, but the real turning point came in the 60th minute when the team's rhythm slowed down. The numbers clearly show this, despite Al-Ahly's dominance in aerial duels (63%) and ground duels (60%). However, the team lost its balance in managing the game, committing 18 errors compared to 16, giving their opponents numerous opportunities to come back. The Thai team capitalized on these moments of weakness, scoring two goals in just 7 minutes, taking advantage of quick transitions and pressure on the opponents' mistakes. The penalty kick in the 64th minute was just the beginning of the team's collapse, before the equalizing goal came due to defensive weaknesses. On the attacking front, despite Al-Ahly's superiority in total shots (17-12) and shots on target (6-3), the expected goals numbers show a relatively close contest (1.89-1.37), indicating that Buriram was not far from scoring, but was more organized in the decisive moments. The defense also played a double role, as Al-Ahly achieved a high successful tackle rate (93%), but also allowed critical spaces in short periods, which the opponent exploited with cleverness. In the end, the difference between the two teams was not in individual quality, but in game management, where Buriram played with high concentration and exploited every opportunity, while Al-Ahly needed extra time and more experience to seal the deal, but the clear message is that in modern football, market value does not decide matches, but small details do.

Al Ahli's coach, Paulo Sousa, expressed his great happiness after passing a difficult test, following his team's 3-2 win over Buriram United from Thailand yesterday, Saturday, in the eighth round of the Asian Champions League in Jeddah. The Portuguese coach showed his tactical acumen when he brought on Sultan Adil and Sergio Damian, which helped his team regain control at the right time. Paulo Sousa said that the match saw many missed chances, including a crucial one by Yuri Cezar, pointing out that the team lost balance and control after taking a two-goal lead, which allowed the opponent to come back, but the substitutions corrected the situation. He added in the post-match press conference that he always strives to present an attacking football, expressing his satisfaction with scoring three goals for the second time in a row, despite not being completely satisfied with the team's focus in some periods. The defender, Renan Victor, was a constant threat on the attacking front, creating the goal for Saad Al-Zahrani after an own goal by Peter Zulj, which gave Al Ahli the lead, before Renan Victor scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute. With this result, Al Ahli qualified for the semifinals to face Japanese side Machida Zelvia on Tuesday.

The United Arab Emirates welcomed the decision of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Legal Committee, adopted during its 113th session, which strongly condemned Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks and threats against ships in the region, as well as its aggression against the territories of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan. The committee also condemned Iran's threats related to the laying of mines in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters, and the system of tolls it imposed on ships passing through the strait, according to reports on this matter. The IMO's Legal Committee, in its decision adopted by the United Arab Emirates, emphasized that these actions are incompatible with the right of innocent passage through the strait, which is a right that cannot be obstructed. It called on Iran to stop its attacks, remove any mines it may have laid in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters, and comply with its international obligations, particularly ensuring the safe passage of ships through the strait without obstacles. Mohamed Khamees Saeed Al Kaabi, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the IMO, welcomed the committee's decision, saying: "The committee has shown a united stance in defense of a maritime system based on principles, and has upheld the right of innocent passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The committee was not swayed by Iran's attempt to justify its unjust actions and undermine the authority of the IMO and its procedures. The international community, through the committee's actions, has made it clear that the right of innocent passage in this vital international waterway is non-negotiable." Like the IMO Council, the committee condemned Iran's attacks and threats as being incompatible with the IMO's objectives and posing a significant threat to lives, especially those of seafarers, and also to the marine environment, and demanded that Iran immediately cease any actions or threats aimed at closing or obstructing international maritime traffic in the region or interfering with it in any way. The committee also called on the IMO Secretary-General to monitor incidents and negative impacts resulting from Iran's actions on international maritime traffic, seafarers, the marine environment, trade, and logistics services, in order to hold Iran accountable for these illegal actions.

Heavy rainfall and flooding in the Dominican Republic and Haiti have resulted in the deaths of 19 people and the displacement of thousands since last week, according to a new official tally and the Red Cross. A previous report had indicated seven fatalities in the Dominican Republic. The Haitian Civil Protection Agency reported 12 deaths in several provinces. The heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, began on April 7th and has continued for more than a week. In the Dominican Republic, authorities have maintained a state of emergency in 24 of the country's 31 provinces, despite a decrease in the intensity of the rain in recent hours. Juan Salas, director of the Civil Defense, said that "five bodies have been recovered" and two others died last week. The emergency operations center also reported that at least 30,500 people have been displaced and evacuated in the Caribbean country. Approximately 6,500 homes have been damaged, and 38 villages have been isolated. The heavy rainfall has led to the closure of schools and a reduction in working hours last week, as well as power outages in the capital, Santo Domingo. The rain is affecting the entire island of Hispaniola, which is shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and the Dominican Meteorological Institute is forecasting more rain and cold temperatures in the coming days. Salas said that "the Civil Defense is maintaining the highest level of alert. The forecasts for the weekend indicate that more heavy rain will affect a large part of the country.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) has officially recognized the UAE's Good Delivery program, which was launched earlier, to ensure the integrity and transparency of the gold supply chain in the UAE. The exchange will list gold bars weighing 100 grams produced by approved refineries under the UAE's Good Delivery program. This step reflects the level of trust that the business community and international institutions have in the UAE's gold, and it enhances the integration of the UAE's Good Delivery standard within the global gold market in India. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade and Chairman of the UAE Gold Committee, welcomed this step as a clear recognition of the UAE's commitment to promoting competitive trade standards globally, which have contributed to the country's reputation as a leading center for the precious metals industry. He noted that the UAE is one of the world's major gold trading centers, and our commitment to standards of integrity and transparency has earned us a reputation among global gold trading communities. The UAE's Good Delivery program is one of the key pillars of our robust regulatory framework that meets and often exceeds international standards. The decision by the Multi Commodity Exchange of India to list gold bars produced by approved refineries under the UAE's Good Delivery program reflects international confidence in the standards applied in the UAE's gold sector. This listing also reflects the strategic importance of India in the UAE's gold supply chain. Gold trade has played a major role in the significant growth in non-oil trade between the UAE and India since the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement came into effect in 2022. Between 2022 and 2025, the bilateral trade in gold increased from around $3 billion to $17 billion, which underscores the exceptional value offered by the UAE's Good Delivery program beyond the preferential advantages specified in the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and India. This performance further reinforces the confidence that Indian market participants, which are among the largest in the world, have in the UAE's Good Delivery standards and the country's advanced infrastructure in refining, regulation, and trade.

Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star, played his last European match with Liverpool against Paris Saint-Germain, where the Reds lost 2-0 at Anfield, with Osman Dembélé scoring the goals. This led to PSG winning the tie 4-0 on aggregate and advancing to the Champions League semi-finals. Despite Dembélé stealing the show, the attention shifted to the Egyptian winger's performance after the final whistle. Salah came on as a substitute for the injured Hugão Ikitiki after just 31 minutes and made a significant impact on the right flank, trying to turn the game around with a goal. However, despite his efforts, Salah failed to breach PSG's solid defense and left the pitch empty-handed, which could be his last appearance in the Champions League. How does the Liverpool legend compare to the best players who have participated in the greatest European stage? Although Salah did not score on Tuesday, he can still conclude his Champions League journey with a record to be proud of. In 98 games, he has scored 50 goals and provided 21 assists. No African player has scored more goals in the Champions League than him, and only two players have made more contributions since his move to Anfield in 2017, Robert Lewandowski (82 goal contributions) and Kylian Mbappé (91 goal contributions). Reviewing the entire history of the Champions League, we find that Salah ranks third in the all-time goalscoring list, with 71 goals and decisive passes, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He is ahead of Ángel Di María (66 goal contributions) and just three goal contributions behind Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie, and Ryan Giggs. Salah needs just four goals or decisive passes to enter the top 10. His fate in the Champions League remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he may move to Saudi Arabia, but it's not impossible he could join an Italian or Spanish club. Considering his place in the all-time top scorers list, he may have a chance to add to his tally with another European season next year. However, regardless of his final destination, Salah will remain a Champions League winner and a legend at Anfield.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced today that it has reached an agreement with the Jordanian government at the expert level on two reviews to support economic reform, which will enable the country to receive around $200 million. A team of IMF experts, led by Cesar Serra, held face-to-face and virtual discussions with Jordanian authorities from April 2 to 14 to conduct the fifth review of the economic reform program supported by the IMF's extended arrangement, which was approved by the IMF's Executive Board on January 10, 2024. The mission also conducted a review of the reform measures within the framework of the IMF's Staff-Monitored Program, which was approved on June 25, 2025. The completion of the IMF's extended arrangement review will enable the release of around $140 million from the total program amount of around $1.2 billion, while the completion of the review of the resilience and sustainability framework will enable the release of around $57 million from the total amount of around $744 million, according to the statement. Serra emphasized that the Jordanian economy has continued to demonstrate its resilience, supported by the Jordanian government's commitment to prudent macroeconomic policies. The real GDP growth rate reached 2.8% in 2025, and the growth momentum has continued in early 2026. Serra highlighted the Jordanian government's commitment to reducing public debt to 80% of GDP by 2028 through revenue enhancement and expenditure efficiency.

At least 18 people have died, while 11 others are still missing due to the floods that hit the city of Benguela, central Angola, following a rise in the level of the Kavango River. Local authorities reported that the initial damage assessment indicates that the floods destroyed 451 homes and displaced around 20,000 people. The protective dam on the left bank of the Kavango River collapsed on Sunday due to heavy rainfall in the region, causing unprecedented floods that inundated several neighborhoods in the city. Historical records show that the Kavango River has experienced repeated flooding, particularly in 1979, 1983, 2002, and 2015, resulting in the destruction of homes, agricultural land damage, and loss of life.

Mutez Al-Shami (Abu Dhabi) revealed a tactical problem that Barcelona cannot ignore; despite Hansi Flick's quick response in the match, where he leveled the aggregate score to 2-2 and ignited hopes of a comeback. However, after Lamine Yamal and Feran Torres' goals, and while Barcelona seemed to dominate the game, the team's structural weaknesses in defense reappeared, changing the course of the match, and then Eric Garcia's red card in the final minutes sealed the fate of the game for Atletico Madrid. Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, is an attacking team that excels in its style of play. In 26 Champions League matches since the start of last season, Barcelona has scored 75 goals, only surpassed by Paris Saint-Germain, which has scored 76 goals in 31 matches. However, while Paris Saint-Germain achieved its 76 goals in 31 matches, Barcelona scored its 75 goals in just 26 matches, at a rate of 2.88 goals per match, an impressive statistic. On the other hand, Barcelona also suffers from conceding many goals, having conceded 44 goals in the past two seasons, the highest number among all Champions League teams, with an average of 1.7 goals per match, only surpassed by Club Brugge (43 goals) and Atletico Madrid (42 goals). Since joining the club in May 2024, Flick has focused intensely on attacking play, to the extent that he has left his players vulnerable to defensive breaches, and this fragility in the backline is not new to his style. Defense has always been a weakness of Flick's in football. While Flick led Bayern Munich to the historic treble in the 2019/2020 season, conceding only eight goals in 11 Champions League matches, the following season was very different. In the season that followed, Bayern continued to score goals in abundance, scoring 139 goals in 50 matches, but also conceding 59 goals. The defensive problems were also present during Flick's short stint with the German national team. While Barcelona has regained its status as a leading force in Spain in recent seasons, the Champions League is the true benchmark for measuring sporting success, and until this structural flaw is corrected, each European tournament will be a gamble for the Catalan club, with everything at risk of loss.
