So how can America move forward in this sharply divided country, where Project 2025 will be mostly in place by the midterms?
What makes practical sense to me is that we try to devolve as much power and responsibility to the 50 states as possible, and then let people sort themselves into a state that works for them.
Because it will be a few years before it is even possible to have a progressive federal trifecta with big enough majorities to repair what has just been broken federally.

The road back to a functioning federal government requires two consecutive blue waves.
A blue wave in ‘26 stops Trump’s legislative agenda and a 2nd blue wave in ‘28 allows the ship to turn around.

I don’t care who endorses whom in the California Governor’s race. With Medicaid and the ACA gutted, and Medicare facing sweeping cuts, thanks to Trump’s “big bill” and “Project 2025”, I care about their plan for universal health care in California.
For me, that is the entry level for consideration. If their only plan is to beg and plead for the Trump/Vance Administration to undo their Medicaid cuts, that isn’t a credible plan for universal health care.
So let’s see their plan.

Just ae states can go higher than the Federal minimum wage floor, the same is true with the ACA.
Medicare-for-All will need a progressive Senate supermajority and trifecta to pass.
But states can use existing ACA law to create #universalhealthcare like the Swiss today.
With Medicaid and the ACA gutted by Trump and the Republicans' "big bill" and Project 2025, it will all fall onto the states.

With this Supreme Court, I don’t think that even big blue waves in ‘26 and ‘28 will fix what Trump and Project 2025 Republicans have broken.
The best hope we can offer now is soft-secession of blue states, a reset of #federalism, and help for those blue dots who want to relocate to safer ground.
We can also help turn red states purple and purple states blue, and 2026 is an excellent opportunity to do that. But the federal government is going to be broken for a long while. It is all on states.
