"The war is not meant to be won. It is meant to be continuous." - George Orwell
They were wondering how to spend all that extra hundreds of billions of dollars they allocated to the military-industrial complex. Now they know.

If other democracies want to help democracy in America right now, they can start selling our treasuries.
That seems to be the only thing that gets Republicans to take action against Trump.

California has now joined the WHO. Every state in the Governor's Public Health Alliance should join the WHO too.
You'll have to ask other Governors why they've allied with Trump and RFK on health instead.
What would really help public health is universal health care.

I want young LGBTQs to see the films Cabaret and Bent and to study queer history.
Berlin was a relatively safe city for us in the 1920’s. By 1940, we were being rounded up by NAZIs and sent to camps.
The lesson is that Civl Rights are never won forever. We must always be vigilant to keep them.

A blunt message to blue state Governors:
You can prioritize running for President in 2028 in hopes of governing over the ashes of what remains of the country and federal government then.
Or, you can band together to “soft-secede” and save our states today. And that blue state block will pressure other states to raise their game.
Please use the powers of the 10th Amendment for a reset of federalism.

The UK is considering banning 'X'. Good.
Elected Democrats should stop pretending that platform is still "Twitter" and is still a virtual "town square" filled with real people, and have the courage to leave.

I remember a history teacher saying, “when Iowa housewives turned against the Vietnam War, then it was inevitable we would end it.”
This feels like a 1970 Kent State Univ. massacre moment.
When enough white Americans turn against government authoritarianism/fascism, then things start to shift.
We don’t need all the Trump/MAGA cultists to wake up — just enough white Americans to see this as their struggle too. It shouldn’t be this way, but that has been American history.

2026-01-08 16:48:07 GMT

“America First” has always been a euphemism for white supremacy, which is why they will switch from isolationism to imperialism and back as needed on a dime.
Just as “Make America ‘Great’ Again” has always really meant “Make America ‘White’ Again”

Throughout history corporations and their leadership have a terrible record when it comes to authoritarianism.
They will almost always disappoint anyone hoping they risk losing even a dime to stand up for democracy.
“We have a fiduciary responsibility to our stockholders.”
It is always a pleasant surprise when a corporate leader does the right thing.

A Supreme Court that answers to no one gave an authoritarian President “immunity”, who appointed an Attorney General and FBI Director who won’t follow the law. No one can or will arrest or prosecute them.
Do we really think they are going to respect election results?
When “norms” fail, now what?

2025-12-20 02:40:08 GMT

If you are one of the thousand-plus FBI agents ordered to find and redact Donald Trump's name and what he did in the Epstein files, and it weighs heavily on your heart and soul to see this cover-up happening, please come forward and speak your peace.
No job is worth your soul.

2025-12-19 23:12:05 GMT

Someone could choose to be a historical figure and be the "Deep Throat" of "Epsteingate".
The unredacted files exist. We just need someone who isn't using them to blackmail others, or keeping them hidden for a book they are secretly writing, to send them to a courageous reporter who hasn't bent the knee for "access".

2025-12-13 20:56:04 GMT

Whenever we read someone say, "We can't afford it" as a reason why we can't have universal healthcare, we should read that as, "I don't want black and brown-skinned people to have access to health care too."

Near the end of this clip, Eric Swalwell says "California is the greatest country in the world and is under attack."
Misspeak or not, a Governor who sees California not merely as one of 50 states underneath a powerful federal Government, but as the Republic of California deserving maximal autonomy would win me over.
As Trump and MAGAs treat us like garbage, I want to see maximal autonomy for California, Pacifica, and the other blue states.

2025-11-12 23:15:39 GMT

I don't just want Trump held accountable.
Hold accountable every single person, including every single elected and appointed official, who tried to cover this up, and lied in public before Congress and in the Courts.
Throw the book at all of them.

2025-11-11 06:04:31 GMT

Democrats are not to blame for the gutting of the ACA, Medicaid, and soon Medicare..
A Trump / Republican trifecta implementing Project 2025 is doing that.
I don’t like how the shutdown ended, but it has always been the Republicans’ plan to gut health care. This is their project.
Blame Republicans.

2025-11-10 13:35:09 GMT

If Democrats had caved when they were losing, it at least would have made logical sense.
Choosing donors’ flights over health care for the poor when they were winning shows just how rotten to the core the system is.
So change the system. Easier said than done, but most worthwhile things are.

Just as the federal minimum wage is a floor that states can exceed, the ACA is a federal floor for health care that states can exceed.
States can build on the existing ACA law to create quality universal health care systems in their state, similar to the Swiss or Dutch.
A federal progressive trifecta with an FDR/LBJ-size supermajority that could pass Medicare-for-All hasn't been elected since 1964. States can build universal systems on top of the ACA today.

2025-10-18 13:29:19 GMT

What the fascists really hate about the No Kings rallies is that you will meet other people who love democracy too and realize that you are not alone and be less afraid of them.
Authoritarians thrive on fear and keeping people feeling scared and alone.
Let’s all have a fun and peaceful time today.

If any of the other 214 House Republicans who haven’t yet signed the discharge petition on the Epstein files would do so, it wouldn’t hinge on Mike Johnson swearing in Adelita Grijalva..

2025-10-06 01:19:56 GMT

President Biden is a good man who tried following Trump’s first term with unity, bipartisanship, and “norms.

In 1934, to stop the New Deal, far-right financiers tried to organize a military coup against FDR.and recruit Gen.Smedly Butler to lead it.
Butler blew the whistle on them, remembering his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution.
May the Generals remember their oath next week.

President Biden was the escape route from fascism. He restored our economy, institutions, and public health.
But voters threw that away out of racism, tantrum, counterproductive protest, and indifference.
There is no way back. What comes next will be a different country, and maybe more than one.
We may have different visions for that, but it is going to have to be bigger and grander than simply “winning the midterms” and putting duck tape on “the union” and old institutions.

I will ask again.
Where are the missing 1200 people from Alligator Alcatraz?
Sent to a foreign gulag?
Sold into slavery?
Dead in a mass grave?
Every one of these people were human beings with minds, hearts, souls, and families.
Where are they? What happened to them?

If Trump and Hegseth fire all the Generals who won’t pledge personal loyalty to Trump over the U.S. Constitution, then we have e defacto military coup without firing a shot.
Vote for a coup attempter, you get a coup.
To borrow from T.S. Elliot, “This is the way the USA ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper”

2025-09-25 19:37:31 GMT

Really only three reasons for Trump and Hegseth to gather all the top generals and admirals together in person rather than by the usual videoconference:
(1) Make them take a personal loyalty oath to Trump
(2) Prepare for a martial law declaration to prevent release of the Epstein files
(3) Orchestrate a Reichstag Fire event

2025-09-25 17:32:16 GMT

Here is the thing about the "rapture". The Book of Revelation is not supposed to be taken literally any more than the stories of creation in the Garden of Eden in Genesis. The spiritual lessons in these stories exist on a much deeper level than time. We aren't supposed to be reading Revelation and figuring out where we are in the news.
Counting on a #rapture or Jesus the Christ to return in human form to wave a magic wand so we don't have to address life's challenges is an avoidance mechanism.

2025-09-23 13:52:46 GMT

Much of American history has seen a tension between federal and state authority.

At times, it is hard to believe that this is the same country that won World War 2.
Perhaps fighting fascism was easier and simpler when the threat is external.
When fascism came to America from within, most of our elites and institutions simply capitulated without a fight out of fear and greed.
Our elites and most of our institutions simply didn't have the courage of the Greatest Generation.
It guess it is up to "We the People" to re-build a bottom-up economy and bottom-up democracy.

2025-09-23 03:12:22 GMT

“We wlll only vote for the spending bill if Republicans agree to reverse the cuts they made to the ACA, Medicaid, and Medicare.”
See how simple this is. Why are Democratic leaders so weak and horrible at messaging?
Nobody cares if Trump “agrees to a meeting”. Tell Trump what you will agree to.
For once, take a stand and fight for it. He will TACO again. Standing up to bullies is the only thing that ever works.

In the 2024 general election, 770 Republican incumbents ran for re-election to their state legislature unopposed, meaning they did not face a challenger in their general election race.

2025-09-19 17:52:44 GMT

How far has the Republican Party fallen?
They once impeached President Clinton over a blow job, but now they won't release the Epstein Files in order to protect Donald Trump over child rape.
If they didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards at all.

2025-09-19 16:41:37 GMT

Growing up under Reagan, we were told that capitalism and democracy walked hand in hand because both involved freedom and choice.
Watching billionaires and corporations support or cave to Trump's fascism reveals this was always untrue.
That's why I am a social democrat (in the European sense.)
Democracy involves everyone's vote counting equally:
One person, one vote -- not one dollar, one vote.

With Project 2025 dismantling the federal government and throwing so much back onto the states, everyone should be spending as much of their political energy for the midterms focusing on who their Governors and state legislators are as on who their members of Congress will be.

2025-09-18 13:39:58 GMT

Q: How do we escape this?
A: We don’t. President Biden was the escape route. He restored our economy, infrastructure, public health, democracy, and standing in the world, but voters threw our democracy away for racism, tantrum, or protest.
The Soviet Union broke up. Now it is apparently our turn.

2025-09-18 04:50:12 GMT

Sorry, but I am not of the opinion that the midterms will save us, no matter how big the blue wave. Our democracy is unlikely to last that long.

So this wasn’t an assassination. It was gang violence between rival white suoremacists.
And some of you dolts were calling for Civil War without a shred of facts.
We were probably all better off back in the days when people waited for Walter Cronkite to say, “And that’s the way it was…” and to fall asleep watching Johnny Carson.

2025-09-12 16:46:24 GMT

What we won't see from the alt-right:
"Gee, we we wrong.
Maybe we need to do some self-reflection at how we demonize people, our violent rhetoric and our pro-gun culture.
Maybe we need to be more tolerant of people different than us.
Maybe we need to wait for facts before jumping to conclusions and new news sources."

The Democratic message should be:
“Republicans have a trifecta. They can fund the government and keep it open themselves. If they want our votes to help them because they cannot agree among themselves, the price is refunding Medicaid and the ACA.”
Put the choice totally on Republicans.

2025-09-12 15:12:01 GMT

Dear Dictator Trump, MAGA, and the Alt-Rigjt Media Ecosystem,
How about waiting for the facts next time before calling for Civil War?
That would be great.
Please apologize to the “leftists” and trans people of America you sought to demonize.
Thanks.

2025-09-12 14:53:16 GMT

MAGAs should really do something about this white-on-white violence.
Now release the full Epstein files.

2025-09-12 14:40:08 GMT

Just as before, everything from Trump and MAGA is pure projection.
The call is always coming from inside their own house.
Next tkme wait for facts.
They owe every trans person and every “leftist” in America an apology.

2025-09-12 04:15:39 GMT

So the Facebook “friends”yesterday who posted admiration for Charlie Kirk all had this in common. They were white straight men with gay clientele who said they are gay “allies”.
Real straight male allies are beautiful. But there has always been a few straight men who pretend to be allies for money.
It is always disappointing when people reveal who they really are underneath the front.
Fortunately, there are real allies around today. So patronize. LGBTQs and our real allies instead.

So how can America move forward in this sharply divided country, where Project 2025 will be mostly in place by the midterms?
What makes practical sense to me is that we try to devolve as much power and responsibility to the 50 states as possible, and then let people sort themselves into a state that works for them.
Because it will be a few years before it is even possible to have a progressive federal trifecta with big enough majorities to repair what has just been broken federally.

"The left want to kill us. IT'S WAR!!!" - MAGA influencers
---
"Uh... we are are just trying to make sure everyone has health care, food, and, good transit, and the ability to vote" - Actual liberals and progressives

2025-09-11 17:08:32 GMT

I'm going to give Charlie Kirk's murder as much attention and empathy as MAGAs give a school mass shooting. Moving on.
Now release the full Epstiein files. They only need one more Republican to sign the discharge petition.

2025-09-11 15:42:37 GMT

If you really want to “avenge” Charlie Kirk’s murder, then demand your Republican members of the House and Senate vote to release the full Epstein files.
Take a deep breath. Think. Don’t be played.
On this left and right agree with Charlie Kirk.
Release the files. All of them.

2025-09-11 15:13:07 GMT

Ignore every pundit talking about stopping political violence on “both sides”. Only one side fetishizes guns and warfare.
These same pundits who criticize California Democrats for standing up to Trump and Texas Republicans, were too cowardly to call out the latter trying to rig the midterms.
These professional “centrists” and “independents” have a business model based on the delusion of politics still being business-as-usual normal, not on democracy being under threat from authoritarianism.

2025-09-11 12:38:23 GMT

Trump and MAGAs are inciting violences and using words like “war” in revenge for Charlie Kirk’s murder without even knowing who the shooter is or why he was murdered, or if it was a professional hit.
If they really want to “honor” Kirk, they should be demanding the release of the Epstein files.

2025-09-11 04:40:08 GMT

There is no suspect in custody. For all we know this was a hired mob hit by someone on the Epstein files (that he was calling to have released). We don’t actually know anything.
But that won’t stop Trump and MAGA from instigating violence to serve their purposes.

2025-09-11 03:54:37 GMT

Nothing that happened today will affect the reality that Donald Trump is obviously all over the Epstein files and probably raped multiple underage girls.
And, Republicans are protecting pedophiles.

2025-09-10 16:07:28 GMT

More Americans wanted a racist, rapist, serial liar, convicted felon who attempted a coup to be President than a qualified Black woman.
Or they threw their votes away in protest.
Americans didn’t care enough about their own democracy to show up to vote to save it.

2025-09-10 04:58:31 GMT

Look, I don’t gaslight people.
The road back to a functioning federal government requires two consecutive blue waves.
A blue wave in ‘26 stops Trump’s legislative agenda and a 2nd blue wave in ‘28 allows the ship to turn around.
Meanwhile, we need to focus just as much on state elections.
Trump’s “big bill” and Project 2025 have taken a wrecking ball to the federal government and states will have to pick up many public services they are used to the feds doing.

2025-09-10 04:44:48 GMT

Bet you didn’t know that California was very briefly independent before being annexed to the United States.
On our 175th Anniversary of being a state, we should seriously think about whether was want a 176th.
(I’m not saying we should go back to using this old flag.). #California.

2025-09-10 03:02:19 GMT

I don’t care who endorses whom in the California Governor’s race. With Medicaid and the ACA gutted, and Medicare facing sweeping cuts, thanks to Trump’s “big bill” and “Project 2025”, I care about their plan for universal health care in California.
For me, that is the entry level for consideration. If their only plan is to beg and plead for the Trump/Vance Administration to undo their Medicaid cuts, that isn’t a credible plan for universal health care.
So let’s see their plan.

2025-09-09 17:30:01 GMT

Just ae states can go higher than the Federal minimum wage floor, the same is true with the ACA.
Medicare-for-All will need a progressive Senate supermajority and trifecta to pass.
But states can use existing ACA law to create #universalhealthcare like the Swiss today.
With Medicaid and the ACA gutted by Trump and the Republicans' "big bill" and Project 2025, it will all fall onto the states.
2026 is a health care election too.

Todos nosotros gringos que sabemos hablar español, deberíamos hacerlo sólo para confundir a ICE.

2025-09-09 13:12:48 GMT

With this Supreme Court, I don’t think that even big blue waves in ‘26 and ‘28 will fix what Trump and Project 2025 Republicans have broken.
The best hope we can offer now is soft-secession of blue states, a reset of #federalism, and help for those blue dots who want to relocate to safer ground.
We can also help turn red states purple and purple states blue, and 2026 is an excellent opportunity to do that. But the federal government is going to be broken for a long while. It is all on states.

2025-09-08 23:16:27 GMT

I actually wept when the not-so-Supreme Court ruled that racial profiling was legal. It seems like the white nationalists and neo-Confederates won the long game.I keep remembering that scene in 'Fatherland' when Miranda Richardson's character says to Rutger Hauer's character, "This isn't your country anymore."
