Nations are looking to reduce dollar dependence by conducting business in local currencies. The problem is that these local currencies don’t have global acceptability, they are a weaker a trade asset. What the world needs is a neutral currency that can’t be controlled/weaponized.

Personally, I don’t see the appeal in popular Bitcoin derivatives like Coinbase, Microstrategy, ETF’s, etc. I think these derivatives are dependent upon Bitcoin’s success and they aren’t as valuable as the underlying asset.

I came to this realization recently. While there are certain businesses that I like and want to invest in, I can’t because they don’t save in Bitcoin. They mostly save in treasuries and equities (also exposed to treasuries). Most businesses are over-exposed to the failing system. They’ll be dragged down with it.

I think we too often equate value to money and assets (ex: house, car, Rolex). What is often overlooked, is that value is relative.
This image is a pie chart. Think of it as a representation of all the value in the world.
Does money have value? Clearly money does have value. I can use money to buy food and sustain myself or pay for shelter (rent), among other things. But why does it have value? Trust. The reason you accept money as payment is because you believe that the money will be accepted when you use it for payment at a future point in time. Once trust in the money is lost, it’s worthless.
Since money is a tool for measuring value in society, it should represent half the value. For every unit of money, there is a reciprocal unit of value.
Is a Rolex more valuable than a gallon of water? It depends. If I gave you a choice between the two, you’d probably take the Rolex. But let’s change the scenery. If your stranded in the desert, your probably taking the gallon of water.
So what changed? The supply did. We don’t value water as much, because we typically have an unlimited supply of water available.
When thinking about value it’s important to remember that it is all relative. Supply and demand is the driving force.

This week we got news that the Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP) will be expiring on March 11, 2024.
Last year we had two of the largest bank failures in US history (Silicon Valley Bank, First Republic Bank). In response to these failures this program was established.
This program is essentially life support (liquidity) for the banking system, which is collectively underwater.
In the second slide the visual shows the unrealized losses of the banks (hundreds of billions).
In the first slide the visual shows the banks utilization of this program, which has skyrocketed.
If this program does end and there isn’t some other liquidity lifeline set up for the banks, I think we will see further pain for the banking system and it’s customers.

Two stocks that I’m bullish on long-term are Lithium Americas Corp (LAC) and Lithium Americas (Argentina) Corp (LAAC). On 10/03/23 Lithium Americas Corp reorganized into two separate publicly traded companies, one for their operations in Thacker Pass (Nevada, United States) and one for their operations in Argentina. I see a lot of upside potential for both companies.
Lithium Americas Corp is focused on their Thacker Pass project. Thacker Pass is a large lithium mine located on the southern end of the McDermitt Caldera, the largest lithium reserve in the United States. LAC is currently in stage 1 of their multi-year construction plan and looking to start producing lithium in the second half of 2026. There is not a lot of competition when it comes to lithium production in the United States (although it is growing), most of our lithium is imported. The Thacker Pass project has a ton of potential if all goes to plan.
Lithium Americas (Argentina) Corp is focused on lithium production in Argentina. Argentina is one of the most lithium rich countries in the world. LAAC Is already seeing great production with their Cauchari-Olaroz project. The company also has two exploration projects in Argentina, the Pastos Grandes project and Sal de la Puna project. LAAC is already producing results and has a lot of room to grow. LAAC also may face less obstacles in their lithium production as Argentina may be less restrictive when it comes to lithium mining.
With an increased demand for lithium over the coming decades, I think now is a good time to get exposure to lithium equities. I see value and room for growth in both companies. Both companies have also stated that they strive to operate under the highest environmental, social, governance and safety standards.

It’s no secret that storing your wealth in dollars is not the greatest idea. We all look for ways to maintain or increase our purchasing power. We take dollars and we trade them into something that will hold value as a solution to the depreciating money problem. One solution that I’m not on board with is treasury bonds.
A treasury bond is essentially a claim for future dollars, but what will those future dollars be worth? The value of the dollar is variable. It’s difficult to predict the purchasing power of a dollar in 10 to 30 years, but it is a given that it will be worth less. It’s ironic to run away from the dollar by investing in dollars. A better solution is investing in an asset that you see value in. Invest in an asset that is appreciating, not one that is constantly depreciating.

I recently purchased a subscription to ChatGPT Plus. I have been blown away by the capabilities of GPT 4 (Chatbot) and DALL-E 3 (Image Generation). The above images were generated by DALL-E 3. This is a great investment for anyone looking to learn or design.
This is a great tool to increase productivity & efficiency. In my personal experience, chatGPT has allowed me to research more effectively and save time. I’m planning on utilizing DALL-E 3 moving forward to take my content creation to the next level. It’s crazy to think that we are only in the early innings of artificial intelligence. You’ve gotta be bullish!

Why have prices gotten so high over the past couple of years? Is that annual ski trip starting to become a little over budget? The answer is simple.
This is a chart of the M1 money supply. The M1 money supply is a measurement of the most liquid forms of money (cash, checking accounts, travelers checks, etc). I decided to use this measurement here because it best represents the money that is circulating through the economy. In 2020 we saw the M1 money supply skyrocket like never before.
Following this increase, the markets ripped. People were unable to go out and spend money since everything was closed, so what did they do? Everyone started throwing money into the stock market, crypto, and other investments.
Once things opened back up in 2021, we saw a lot of this new money travel into goods and services as people looked to spend again. The result… higher prices for everyone.
Increasing the money supply does not increase value, it just reprices everything higher. When the circulating money supply increases over 4x in a year, you can expect a substantial increase in the price of investments, goods & services, assets, etc over time.

Real estate will continue to go up in dollar terms with inflation as time goes on. But when we look at the value in the world, it takes up too much of the pie, and now the people can’t afford to eat. We’ve seen so much buying and investing in real estate over the years as people look to store value, but what happens when there is an influx of selling. A small portion of the population can afford real estate where it’s being valued. There’s a large market for homes but it’s at a much lower value, one that the next generation can afford. Sellers will have to meet buyers there.

I find it hard to invest in stocks. Most companies are exposed to debt, dollars and the banks. A company can have a year of growth and profits, then their bank can fail, and it’s all over. Staying away from companies that are exposed to existing financial system.

Maybe a key reason gold hasn’t taken off like some have predicted is because it has a legitimate competitor in Bitcoin as the go to store of value/safe haven asset. People are now presented with a choice, where as in the past gold was the clear front-runner for this type of investment. Bitcoin has weakened demand for gold.

Idk what the parameters for a risk asset are but Bitcoin is not a risk asset to me. Risk is a spectrum. For example, It’s more risky to tightrope over a canyon, than it is to go on a hike. Most assets involve trusting someone else, and most assets are exposed to the massive amount of leverage in the global economy. If you self-custody Bitcoin, you are trusting the Bitcoin network and you are trusting yourself. Holding Bitcoin does not feel risky, it feels safe.
