I think the maintainers here handled this situation very well. I wish folks doing these hail mary LLM PRs understood the fine line of competing concerns (copyright, security, performance, maintainability, trust, time, resources, mental health, etc) that open source maintainers walk. And they're almost never compensated at the scale their projects are used. A 150 file PR is a liability, not a welcome contribution.

Watched K-pop Demon Hunters this weekend with the family and it's really good. I've been seeing some discourse about Pixar being cooked for over-relying on the CalArts style of generic, round rubbery characters but I didn't take a side. After watching K-pop Demon Hunters... I agree?
I think what was most clear from the movie was that Sony Animation is having fun. Like The Mitchells vs The Machines and Spider-verse, you can sense the foundation of play in the craft in Sony's animated films.

Celebrated 17 years of marriage to this wonderful woman yesterday. “Lucky” is the only emotion I can describe it. Lucky she was okay dating someone who was homeless at the time. Lucky she said yes to my proposal even tho I made a big stink about not buying blood diamonds. Lucky she puts up with my decades of bad ideas, general laziness, and at the same time my workaholism. It’s probably no secret I agree with nearly all of Alex’s conclusions in the series, but the part that resonated most was creating an understanding of quality.
Without a collective lens on how to view and judge our work, we’re gonna keep having the “well, actually I build apps not websites” scapegoating with no real accountability to our users.

Finally got around to reading thru @npub1pf4…pgxq’s 4-part series: The Reckoning. It reads like a good podcast arc. Starting off with some hard data and compelling case studies, then moving to describing the culture shift we need in front-end engineering, and a roadmap on how to dig yourself out of an SPA hole.
Recommend reading if you work on or care about the web. Makes for a great lazy Sunday or morning coffee read.

Oof. Haven’t messed with JSR, sounds yikes. Also share the disappointment that they reverted on the “packages are just URLs” principle.
I think what’s interesting about a standard lib is that the more we can solve common problems in a uniform way the better. Node had a lot of “standard” modules (e.g. fs) that were good but not super portable and often ahead of language standards (e.g. require).
I guess I’m pro cow-path-paving wherever possible.

Today we surprised the kids when they came home from grandma’s house with two new adopted pups: Laneige and Rosebud.
(The pups were named after lip balms by the shelter and so far the names have stuck)
Two dogs is a little ambitious but hey, life’s too short not to have dogs, even if I am allergic. They are good dogs and love belly rubs.

Free Idea: You get one page on your website to list all the stuff you don’t like (react, tailwind, capitalism, whatever) and then the rest of the site can be about stuff you do like (birds, music, books, whatever). So whenever you’re writing a post and start edgelord’ing towards a rehashing of the stuff you don’t like, you can say “oh I already wrote about that!”

The penalty for one Lit is pretty small (7kb). If your system has 30 components that cost get amortized to ~233b/ea. And there’s a pretty linear pathway for making a retired Lit component and a vanilla web component. So that’s good news. But.
There’s renewed talk about native template instantiations (echoing, forloops, if/else) which I think would really tamp down abstraction costs.
