@nprofile…q7dx how did you end up doing #CO2 monitoring at #emfcamp? Between #fosdem and #eventinfra we are close to spending 10k€ on #airgradient because they do most things right, and we were not able to get our own hardware spun up.
Intention is for everything to go into the eventinfra loan pool so ALL the conferences can monitor their environments.
Before we make that step, we wanted to check if it makes sense to collaborate on fully open hardware, firmware, and software stack instead.

Hey #GitHub, it's roughly half a year until #FOSDEM.
As a reminder, I will disable the #NAT64-based #IPv4 fallback on the default network next year. The default network will be #IPv6-only.

One for the #scuba #scubadiving and #science #physics bubble:
What would be fun to take into a compression chamber? I'll be "diving" down to 14 meters, aka 1.4 bar above ambient pressure, a few times and it's getting boring.
I'll bring my dive computer one day, but otherwise..?

This is rather specific, but I feel #Mastodon is the right place for this kind of question..:
I have had a #brother #ptouch 7600 for 1.5 decades. Love it.
I need to print on shrink tube now, so I bought a Brother P-Touch E560BT.
And... The font is different! Even when I set it to Helsinki font, it looks different in width and height.
I printed dozens and dozens of tapes around the home. I need it to keep looking the same!
Any help or #retoot appreciated.

2026-05-13 19:23:06 GMT

I'll avoid the subtoot and just post a (somewhat) positive message:
#bambu #bambulabs are doing #enshittification at speed and on purpose. They define "community" as "people who gave us money, under our rules and control". We know that. The occasional reminder for #3dprinting is still good.
If you want to amplify that message, focus on the positive people such as #LouisRossmann: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1jhRqgHxEP8
That's it. That's the toot.

I do note that "women should control their own bodies" seems to be too spicy for the #3dprinting hashtag. There's probably a lesson or two for some people here.

2026-05-12 21:07:30 GMT

It's good to see a few trending reminders that #bambu #bambulabs are fundamentally untrustworthy.
I just wish that the most trending one didn't have an ethical position that can be fairly summarized as "3D printers should have more bodily autonomy than women"

@nprofile…jjs5 @nprofile…nd7k not a doctor etc, but you can literally be coughed on with a mask with little to no effect.
Keep the mask on in those situations, don't touch your eyes, ideally wear glasses (though if it's from the side...), wash your hands with soap and lukewarm water for two times the refrain of Stayin Alive (20 seconds) before taking your mask off.
Having a phlegm fountain seated next to you sucks, but I tried this procedure plenty of times. It's pretty solid.

The green lights are at up to 250km altitude?!
My estimate of 100+km of filament length was based on idle planespotting, a height up to 11km. Those green filaments are much, much longer than I ever would have guessed. And change completely in the blink of an eye.
I'll probably do the math tomorrow unless someone beats me to it. Long day today; need some no-brain activity for now..

The science is obvious, of course. From the sun's perspective, a few 100 km around here is an insignificant fraction of an arcsecond.
Any average protuberance has more mass than Earth.
Yes, all obvious.
But... It's all so much larger and faster than anything we can do with all our combined might.
It boggles the mind. Literally.

Never. Never in my whole life have I seen something as humongous as those green arcs act in unison so quickly. There's nothing on Earth which can produce something as incomprehensibly large as those lights in the sky. I am still unable to fully *comprehend* what it takes to have 100+km of *anything* change state within 200 milliseconds or less.

And a few times somewhere north of #alaska, #canada, and #greenland. Except for one time, I only saw them as white mist: faint enough that only the black-white recepting rods in my eyes could pick them up. Once, the faintest of greens.
This night, it was a red glow and green arcs.
