What a terrible month. I thought it was an issue with Wisp NWC.
@nprofile…tkue NWC with Wisp and/or Coinos had a vulnerability. Someone remotely spent sats from NWC coinos.
Are you guys finding fixes? 😣

Yeah 23. Was like 40$ for a L1 to go through. How embarassing to explain to newbs that this is what Bitcoin is for. Yeah L1 volume has been meager since.

You have a good point.
But what a lot of us are saying is the the original ideas and 'the currency' have changed and are changing. That's the attack vector we are trying to fight against.
I couldn't use L1 in a demonstration at a learning seminar because jpegs on chain priced out non junk data transactions. I thought at the time, 'Why is this allowed? This doesn't seem like a monetary network?!'
Erosion factor is real.
I believe a big storm is coming. They'll want increasingly "fiatization" of the protocol.

Sure.
But also... I've often pondered if the current reality of mining was the best way forward.
I don't mean proof of stake (🤢) but the monero ASIC resistance algo always seemed intrguing.
Perhaps ASIC corporate mining was inevitable, sure.
Perhaps ASIC pay to play is literally the security of the network at the base layer. Sure.
But it's OK to envision different formations of decentralization too.
I've often just wondered if there's a better way to do mining. It might evolve like the rest of the network.

Tough to see how Bitcoin is optimally decentralized.
Here's my thoughts. Would appreciate your insight...
ASIC industrial scale mining, and the concentration of power they have, seems to lower the 'pleb miner' vision Satoshi had of what "decentralization" meant.
Being a huge miner is just proof of stake -- a question of who has the fiat $$ to run them.
And secure? Bitcoin security (two layers deep) was successfully attacked.
The people who needed Bitcoin the most were robbed by trying to be self soverign. 😣
So, the industrial mining complex (fiat proof of stake IMO) runs the show, and plebs get wrecked trying to self custody.
This is all horrendous.

There's a small % chance that the idea we all had about what Bitcoin would become, doesn't transpire. At least for a long time. Instead, Bitcoin essentially gets narratively controlled for the public, the elite and bankers fool everyone to control most of people's holdings, and Bitcoin replaces S&P portfolios. The banking institution could plausibly keep the price suppressed for long spans through market overselling (to each other, or through opaque markets) so retail fights it out and sells coins to institutions further centralizing holdings.. There's a small chance, say 15-20% that Bitcoin just becomes new Gold for banks mainly. No huge pleb revolution. No millions of node runner etc.
This is a real plausibility.

I stumbled on a website called futurist.com --- it's a vanity project of some guy who is a speaker about, clutches pearls, THE FUTURE... (The links are below).
I wasn't enthralled but I watch and read a bit and found myself challenged. Not to learn new things, but to hear different perspectives.
I immediately wanted to reject their hypothesis' but remembered the power of hearing different perspectives to see through cognitive blindspots.
In college my neighbour had a newspaper delivered that was of the complete opposite political side as myself at the time. He'd be out of the country a lot and the papers would pile up so I'd grab them for him. I became engrossed in reading it. Fascinating how there was a complete other side to how I saw the world. Since then I've enjoyed hearing weird ideas, new ideas, fringe ideas. I think it's partly what got me into Bitcoin.
So here are these videos. I didn't like everything nor agree with many things presented, but they made me think, reconsider and build out some worldview.
