@nprofile…6qkm There's more money to be made in planned obsolescence, forcing you to buy new over and over, or at least pay them to fix it. If you could fix it yourself, they couldn't extract more out of you.

2026-08-14 02:38:41 GMT

@nprofile…5yjg I find "read" traps to be extremely unfair. You, the GM, describe that the rune is there. Why would you do that if it were not to be read? All you're going to do is create trust issues with the players. Kind of a dick move IMHO.

@nprofile…zqv6 I just checked the site for myself since you reminded me it even exists. I got the same verification click, and while the site loaded for me... it's just an empty page. The header is there, the "Log In" and "Register" are there, that's all fine, but there's no content, as if the site was in the process of being created.
I got nothing out of the site. Not a single conversation, ever. I'd be glad to wrangle with you any day you like, that's why I signed up for Mastodon in the first place.

After like two and a half years, I'm still not sure how #DMs work on Mastodon. I know you just lead off with the @ of the person you're addressing, but can other people see them? If so, aren't they really not DMs? Somebody educate my dumb ass, please!

This is at the intersection of #TTRPG and #art for Fedifolks:
I am looking to commission a #map for a #Pathfinder 1e campaign. The setting is a large island, roughly circular, with multiple countries arranged in a ring around a central mountainous plateau wherein a Dark Force (possibly even a Dark Tower *cough*ripping off a beloved board game *cough*) is beginning to stir, threatening the entire island. A few smaller islands may lie scattered around the main island.
Any #artist out there interested in taking the commission? I can describe more if we connect. Definitely a paying job. Any takers?

@nprofile…q5yn No module ever withstood contact from an actual adventuring party. That's why old classic ("basic") D&D modules were point-crawls with occasional timed / reactive bits. To be entirely honest... aside from very badly playing B-series modules at the very start of my gaming career, I've never run through a published adventure. Not in 43 years. That blows my mind!

Big Purple gonna Big Purple. Now a guy I know just caught a permaban for supposedly being a "sockpuppet of a previously banned user" who, if it is who I think it is, registered *wa after* the guy who just got banned.
Seriously, fuck #RPGnet and everything about the people who run the place. Yeah, @nprofile…hh4j , I'm talking to *you*. Powertripping basement-dwellers with incredibly over-inflated, micromanaging egos crowned with little tin hats who care more about their little domain than they do about actual peace and justice. Whoever you are running that account, I'm calling you out. I'm calling *all* of you out. I've had it with your shit. Your site is the polar opposite of John Tarnowski's little shithole -- a really *big* shithole where even the people you supposedly protect have to tiptoe over broken glass lest you start waving your banhammers. You banned one of the nicest, most Christ-like men I know for absolutely nothing, and now you've struck someone else I know for a blatantly false reason. Done with your shit. Go ahead, ban me from the site; we all know you people troll the internet to find criticism of your idiocy and take petty revenge.
Christ, I hate powertripping tinhats.

The removal of Mango Mussolini's name from the Kennedy Center has been the cultural event of the year so far. Multiple double-digit-hour livestreams have been going all night long and into this morning. Yesterday there was a huge crowd; I expect another today. There was even a double rainbow yesterday as part of the celebration. His name has been stripped off the nation's cultural center; it's only a matter of (very brief) time before everything of his is stripped, everywhere.

#Mastodon , please forgive me, for I have sinned.
In my desperation to remember the name and author of a novel I read a couple years ago, and my inability to find it myself through websearch, I turned to the Devil.
I consulted Claude.
Who couldn't find it either... but presented some surprisingly similar books I would like to read.
But I feel... disgusted, and I'm not being hyperbolic. I've violated my "not even once" stance, which makes me a hypocrite, a thing I despise. So now I've got that on my conscience this morning.

Well, the fuckery waited seven days, but here we go. My bank account filled when Thursday turned to Friday. I bought myself breakfast and lunch on Friday, orderd a couple books becaue I haven't bought myself anything nice in months, and gave $10 to a lupus charity... and then my debit card stopped working. Tried to make an Amazon payment; declined. Tried to get lunch this afternoon; declined. And of course it's the weekend, so I can't call the bank until Monday. No good goes unpunished...

Friends, I apologize for my recent silence. I have not been able to see. My left eye has been bad for several years. Last Monday, I had a bad hemorrhage in my right eye as well, leaving me staring into impenetrable clouds. Since then I have been listening to music, using a screenreader, and sleeping to pass the time. I am pleased to report a tiny improvement in the situation, and hope this will continue, but for now, life is pretty unfun. Hang in there for updates.

@nprofile…p0fq I also have a major issue with the "speeds up play" argument. Gaming is not a speedrun. If you're in that much of a hurry while playing a TTRPG, you may have the wrong kind of game. There are also a lot of other things you can do to "speed up play" and a lot of them involve the people behind the dice, not the dice themselves.

I really wanna get movement on my #ttrpg #blog again, and I think one of the things I'd like to have for it is the ability for users to give feedback. bear.blog does not have comment function, which can be nice at times, but I am still in search of discussion (that isn't Big Purple).
How should I go about adding this functionality? "Move your blog" isn't really an option at the moment. Should I create a forum? Should I provide a Mastodon link at the end of every post? I'd like to hear simple, easy ideas.
