For me, it is not an either/or, rather a trade-off. Tactile and olefactory experience versus, for example, convenience. There is no universal standard by which we can decide what is more valuable.
However, I tend to think that ebooks are actually superior to cheap paperbacks when we are talking 1,000+ pages.

I have been reading ebooks for more than a decade now and really appreciate the format. I have also accumulated several readers: 2 Kindles, 1 Kobo and, most recently, 1 Onyx. The plan now is to become as independent as possible.

1. The Kindle is still the best product and using it won't hurt democracy.
2. Jeff Bezos is an asshole and I will not make an asshole richer no matter what.
3. Buying e-books on Amazon is a way to support the end of democracy.

Europe in the 2010's wanted to enjoy its own prosperity and "change Russia through trade" (Wandel durch Handel)–and Putin knew that and used that. Putinism is a maximalist vision of what Russia should be and will stop at nothing to achieve it.
Ultimately, Russia may collapse because it has depleted its human and economic resources, but no-one can tell exactly when that might happen.
Face it, some people don't _want_ to be reasonable.

We may be on different paths here. The author is not out to criticise ideas or ideals that are sometimes described as woke, e.g., trans-inclusive feminism, as such but how those ideas are _used_ by "symbolic capitalists."
One of my take-aways is that they use the ideas in a way that does not threaten the status quo in any important way. People who claim that something called "wokeness" is a dangerous threat to their freedom are either wrong or disingenuous.

We may be talking about different things, due to how ambiguos the word "woke" has become.
I am well aware of the dictionary definition "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues," but these days, at least where I am, the word is used in a pejorative sense, often by the right, without a clear definition, e.g., when someone like Ron DeSantis talks about the "woke mind virus."
I hear people talk about a nebulous "wokeism" or "woke movement."

I don't think that my post is exactly antiwoke, and as far as I can see, the book isn't either. Obviously, it is open to objections, as basically any academic or political work is.
However, I really can't say for sure, until someone explains what the antiwoke part is.

If you still want to read about "woke," I can recommend _We Have Never Been Woke_ by Musa al-Gharbi.
Two important take-aways for me:
"Woke," whatever it is, is something that concerns mainly the urban academic middle class. Other people don't really need to worry about it.
The function of "woke" is mainly symbolic. The opinions may be genuine, but the willingness to effect real social change just isn't there. No "woke" revolution will ever take place.

Om någon nu mot förmodan tror att det Musk gör är att "effektivisera":
Att lägga ned en verksamhet är inte att effektivisera. Effektivisering, som jag tror att alla vet, är att göra samma sak med mindre resursåtgång.
Men självklart går det att spara pengar, åtminstone på kort sikt, genom att helt enkelt sluta göra saker. På lång sikt kan det finnas konsekvenser i form kostnader, men det vet vi inte mycket om, eftersom Musk struntar i allt vad konsekvensanalys heter.

Are there any exciting vendors I should now about? I mean if I want to try something that is not Bezos, Kobo or Alphabet?
Being Swedish, I often buy ebooks from Bokon.
