You can accept lightning payments in woocommerce, you just need to run a BTCPay server. If you don't want to run a server, there are several providers who custody the funds for you in exchange for a small fee and some KYC. They provide their own woocommerce plugins for integration.

shows lots of promise. I'm all for building additional utility into Bitcoin. Sound money is great, "smart money" is even cooler. Being able to run things like DAOs and voting systems is an amazing use case. Down for anything generally that extends Bitcoin's functionality so long as we don't sacrifice decentralization or spend a bunch of blockspace on it.

There are many quantum-resistant algorithms that exist or are in development that work just like existing public-key cryptography. Quantum computers that can do this are "20 years away" at best. Bitcoin will upgrade well before it's needed, just like was done for Y2K.

This is a well thought out post.
A few things:
- While most PoS currencies have an inflationary supply, I don't believe, and I could be wrong here, that they are /required to/ have one. There's no reason your reward for staking can't just be tx fees. Proof-of-stake is just a system for assigning who has the authority to make the next block. Instead of using hashpower, they use proof of ownership of a randomly (but predictably) selected set of coins.
- You are assuming that mining has to be profitable to work. I'm not sure that's a safe assumption. I think that most miners are not making much money, or at least, aren't able to make money unless they are "speculatively mining" ie mining at break-even or loss and then saving some BTC to sell at an expected higher price. Which, to be fair, for a deflationary currency is not an unviable strategy. This is because of the way Bitcoin's difficulty function works. If mining is profitable, people flock to mining, which increases competition, which makes mining less profitable. When mining is unprofitable enough, people turn off their rigs and do something else instead. Until enough do that for mining to become "profitable" again. This means that /on average/ mining is at a breakeven point for your average miner. The network will buy hashpower at the cheapest price it can. And when you consider that miners are often deriving secondary benefits from mining (such as waste heat) or treating it as an energy storage solution, that cheapest price may be well below what the formula of BTC reward - cost to mine would give you.
- Large power competition is also worth considering. Large powers have some incentive to have some "stake" in or "control" of the global currency network. If BTC is the dominant global currency and China ends up with all the hashpower, that is a problem for the US. Big powers regularly throw billions of dollars into holes in order to maintain their competitive edge and make sure things like global trade routes/rules tilt in their favor. The space race or the race to make the most undersea cables is another example. Mining is going to become one of those areas of great power competition. If the US wants to continue to be able to, for example, issue sanctions against its enemies, in a Bitcoin standard world, that means they need to control significant hashpower. While they will never be able to fully /censor/ transactions without 51% of hashpower, they can /delay/ them. Likewise, if you want your economy to be efficient and competitive, you want to be able to guarantee that your transactions make it onto the chain. If your country has delayed transactions, that will have a real economic impact. So Bitcoin may very well be the next frontier of great power competition. Great powers don't care about profitability since that's not the goal of their mining.

I would also add that one of Bitcoin's major strengths in relation to other potential currencies is its stable economic policy which people basically consider immutable. Bitcoin's fiscal policy is a fixed supply and being based around PoW. Look at Ethereum, they have changed fiscal policy several times, maybe that's a fine thing for a network which is built around making a distributed compute platform, but it's not a good thing for something which is designed to be the new global reserve currency. Changing any of these key things with Bitcoin could change the stability of that fiscal policy. If we open the door to fiscal policy changes, we lose a major item on Bitcoin's feature list.

The incentive for miners after the coin subsidy runs out is transaction fees. So long as the net sum of the tx fees can subsidize enough hashpower to keep the network "secure enough", Bitcoin will be fine. The gradual decline of subsidies over time is meant to make this transition as graceful as possible.
I don't see anybody in the Bitcoin community being ok with moving to PoS or removing the hard cap, that question has been "asked and answered" as far as BTC is concerned. PoW is a more equitable system for initial coin distribution and long-term control of the network as energy is the most equitably distributed resource on earth to base a currency on. Unlike previous methods like precious metals or stable governments. PoS inevitably trends towards centralization, it's just the nature of how that system works. Bitcoin has chosen decentralization at every other opportunity, I'm not sure why it would it would change course.

Nostr has pretty bad marketing imo. As a Bitcoin person and a person who understands P2P protocols, it appeals to me. But on-boarding and advertising for new users is not working well.
We are emphasizing censorship resistance. This is not a concern for most users. In fact, they would say they want some degree of censorship/moderation and view users who want "censorship resistance" as generally being the last users they want to interact with. They think nostr is "truth social but with crypto". Many users on lemmy/mastodon/etc aren't interested in nostr because they believe it's entirely unmoderated even though nostr provides literally identical moderation functionalities as activitypub.
We need a simple, default suggested route for new users. Not a page listing 100 different ways to connect to nostr.
We should be emphasizing: autonomy in digital spaces (relays have their own moderation policies, you get to choose which ones you connect to), decentralization (not be locked into facebook etc), federation (twitter clone that can interact with other apps built on nostr).

Some feedback on strike, I have made some ACH deposits to buy some BTC and they have been stuck. The BTC is there but I can't send it anywhere because the ACH payment is still settling in the background. That's fine, but it would be great is strike app would give me an estimate for when it expects the payment to settle, and show that in the history tab. Appreciate all the work #strike is doing to bring BTC to the world.

A final consideration: heat. Phones are not designed to be run at 100% CPU for long periods of time, hell, not even 50%. The batteries will swell and become a fire hazard. Even if you can remove the battery, which on many of them you can't, they still may not be able to dump heat quickly enough during an initial sync or even normal node operation. This leads to instability and quick death of the hardware. Many Android ROM's will kill high CPU tasks randomly and there's no way to disable that.
I use Android for #BOINC and mining Gridcoin (putting energy towards medical and space research). And let me tell you, finding Android hardware and getting it to work reliably in high-load scenarios is an absolute mess. Granted, it's some of the most efficient compute-per-watt you can get for CPU power, but it's a pain.

I am concerned that while Bitcoin may have arrived at the best technical solutions and may have the largest network effect, we are losing the social battle for adoption. Bitcoin was once unheard of, and when I mentioned it to people, I was met with confusion. Now, I am met with hostility. People are actively hostile towards something that has already been explained to them by people who hate Bitcoin. The first ten minutes of the conversation are debunking easily debunked talking points they have already been given "Bitcoin is bad for the environment", "Bitcoin is only used by criminals", etc. All the Bitcoin messaging I do see out in the wild is focused on gains chasing, investing, ETFs, etc. Much of it is about comparing Bitcoin to other coins on technical basis without going into the philosophy or values of Bitcoin which are IMO much more important, because they explain why we don't want 1,000 TPS on main chain.
There are some developments in this space, at least in the USA. We do now have a bipartisan PAC funding politicians who are crypto friendly. We do now have some lobbying groups. We have a few CEOs who are willing to spread the gospel of satoshi on MSNBC etc. But what we don't have is good messaging in most public squares. This is a thing I would love to contribute financially to solving, but I have found it hard to find places to give money to for this purpose.
I think it is easy to dismiss concerns that we are "losing the social war" as irrelevant. Bitcoin continues to grow every year, it will keep growing, people will adopt it as it becomes more dominant. But even if everybody switched to Bitcoin overnight, if they do not understand the values that underpin the network and what Bitcoin's promise truly is, Bitcoin can lose its way and turn into just another shitcoin. We will end up with contentious forks. You can point at the rules and incentives built into the network all you want, and they can fend off a lot of attacks and problems, but ultimately Bitcoin is a social currency, it is dependent on people to run, its system of rules is democratic as a basis, if we end up with too many people who want to change the rules to make it more like something else, that will happen.
Would be interested in hearing rebuttals/thoughts on this topic. And also ways I can help fund social outreach if it exists.

This situtation is not ideal, and there are some protocol upgrades coming through the pipes which will help with this situation. But it's not as bad as it seems.
Let's get some basics out the way. Even if they collude, mining pools can't:
- Spend funds they have the private key for
- Print more Bitcoin than the protocol allows
- Do anything else to make a block which is "invalid"
Why? Because all the other nodes on the network will reject those blocks.
Mining pools also only /relay/ the results of mining to the network. They have no hashpower of their own. If a pool misbehaves, miners can switch instantly, and most major mining farms have things in place to monitor the behaviour of pools. In fact, when pools have misbehaved in the past, this exact thing has happened.
Speaking broadly, every incentive is aligned to stop mining pools from misbehaving. They will lose all their hashpower and revenue if they do. And if their attack is significant enough, they may harm Bitcoin's reputation, which devalues any coins they have and the network they rely on for income.
Let's also remember that mining pool operators are people. They are subject to the same poor judgement we all are, the same greed, the same fallibility. If there were some way for them to do a quick hit-and-run and get away with enough money to be set for life, don't you think at least one of them would have tried it by now? Or some other malicious actor would have forced their hand? And yet it hasn't happened. Because doing it makes no sense.
The danger people talk about with pools is the 51% attack. In a 51% attack you can do a "double-spend" where you send somebody BTC, get something of value in return, and then "un-spend" that BTC by rolling out a different version of the blockchain where you didn't spend that BTC.
The problem is, what is the thing you are going to get in return? It's going to have to be more valuable than the loss you will inevitably suffer for executing this attack. There are few things that valuable on earth, and moving them is not going to happen instantly. Anybody who is going to accept millions or billions of dollars of BTC is not going to do so on a single block confirmation. You need to consistently pull off a 51% attack multiple blocks in a row. The more blocks in a row you do this, the more obvious it becomes that you are doing the attack.
A pool doing a 51% attack can also delay transactions, but not censor them so long as they are not the only pool producing blocks. And if they want to censor them forever, they need to be at 51% forever which won't happen because miners will switch.

Governments have tried this before, and failed. There are many reasons for this:
1. Bitcoin is international. Your government can ban it all it wants, but the blockchain still keeps making more blocks regardless.
2. Technical censorship (blocking access to the network) is impossible to do perfectly. Things will slip through and people will still be able to access their Bitcoin, just with a few extra steps.
3. Bitcoin's market cap is 850 billion dollars. You are effectively sanctioning your own country by not letting it connect to this economy which ranks in the top 25 countries by GDP. The bigger Bitcoin gets, the more true that becomes.
4. Bitcoin's promise is more efficient payment systems. By not letting your country participate in this, you will be stuck using slow, legacy payment systems. This makes your economy less efficient, which makes it less competitive on the global market all else being equal.
5. There is a lot of international investment going into crypto technology. If you don't let people tinker with and use crypto in your country, you are going to miss out on that investment and the jobs it creates.

If you're high on free labor and low on funds, you can always buy "discount stamps" on eBay. They are old stamps so you have to combine a few to get the correct postage amount but you can save a good 20% on postage this way. All old, un-used stamps are still valid no matter how old they are. Non-profits also get significant discounts on postage if you can find one to partner with. Keep up the good work! Love seeing it :)

This is obnoxious gatekeeping. People will continue to use KYCed platforms until UX of #NoKYC platforms improves. If the UX there is better, people will have no motivation to use anything else. If Bitcoin is dependent on everybody being technologically savvy and interested enough to navigate a complex series of menus and understand how block timing works, we will never reach hyperbitcoinization.
