Had a relatively good day at work, and then it suddenly got bad, and then I have upper management offering me a different position, if I should decide I don't wanna do this
meanwhile I'm just thinking "I gotta find a new career"

10 years ago I said that the republican party was done, and would likely dissolve
I was wrong
It's the democratic party that's over. The party of "let's not rock the boat" and "we'll just compromise over and over"
The party of no chances, no stakes, no real ideals. Just pandering and saying what you think other people want to hear, so they'll vote for you.
And it has failed over and over
It's time to replace the democrats with an actual leftist party that is willing to make changes.

If you’ve been on the internet in the past year and a half to two years, you’re probably very familiar with company’s like OpenAI, where Sam Altman argues that his bots must steal in order for his company to be profitable. And, you’re probably also very aware of the endless two-braincell-tech-dudes who post and write about how awesome it is to plagiarize and steal the work of artists to generate some quick, sloppy garbage for short-term gains. Well, if you’re like me, this pisses you the frick off, and in today’s post I’m going to help you completely block their grungy asses from accessing your website.

Took a peak at Mastodon's robots.txt and noticed it's only asking GPTbot to fekk off, so we'll just put all the bots into that file
Kinda wondering if that's what's crashing my instance every other week

I kind of want to write about the downward path that Bluesky is obviously heading, i.e., deployment > venture capital funding > massive user influx > rightwing extremists > failure of moderation > ??? > ads > revenue generation > trackers > muddy moderation policies > enshitification
I can see it coming from a mile away, and it's kind of sad that it's blown up so much because so many people are convinced that it's the last bastion of hope for a social web ... for some reason

Someone on Reddit commenting on my post about my getting started guide for Mastodon saying, basically, that if a guide like that has to exist, then Mastodon is a design failure
But, listen, I could write a guide _just as long and in-depth_ about getting started on Bluesky, including with instructions on using your own domain
I could write detailed instructions on how to get started on Twitter that are also as detailed (but I won’t do that lol)
I think the real problem is that a lot of people have this unexplained internal bias toward the Fediverse and hardly anyone can coherently explain _why_

I really want to keep mkultra.monster, and continue posting in a way that I can control how people interact with me, and not accidentally join an instance with overzealous admins/mods
But also this is costing like 50-60 a month, primarily because of the addition of elastic search and backups lol

If you're using scripts to pull art from other sites in order to post them here (yes, even if it's tentacle hentai or whatever) you absolutely should not be excluding its source and/or you should not _replace_ the source with a link to your blog where it's also being pulled and posted to
Include your sources, even if it's automated

Today on Nova Prime: https://nova.mkultra.monster/social%20media/2024/11/13/my-fediverse-starter-pack.html
The idea of a “social media starter pack” is nothing new. In the 90s we had webrings with select websites we wanted to connect with, and share with others. In blogging we have “blogrolls,” and on social media we’ve had “follow fridays” for … forever. And, in regards to the fediverse, numerous people have put together lists of users they think others should follow. So, by all means, Bluesky’s version of this is really nothing new, except in that they call follow lists “starter packs.” In that spirit, I’ve made my own, for the fediverse.

I don’t know when it happened, or even how it happened. But I know it did. I used to get home from work and spend most of my free time consuming another game. That was in my twenties, mostly, and also in the space of time that I was unemployed and suffering disability-levels of anxiety. But then something changed, and I became a machine.

Get yourself a LinkGarden!
On September 8th, 2024, I sat down as I crawled out of bed, and spent the next 10 hours designing, building, and coding my own version of 'linktree,' which I've dubbed: LinkGarden
https://nova.mkultra.monster/linkgarden/for_you/
For a one-time payment of 80 bucks, I'll make you a link page, and if you need help with hosting, I'll make you a Neocities account and put it up! (unless you want some other free service, but it's recommended the service lets you have javascript running)
You read that right! No monthly fees! No subscription, no tiers, just a page, built custom _for you_.

With the 900 I already paid, plus the remaining, that's 1300 not covered yet, but! Even if this is all the support I get, this is a monumentally huge amount, and I am super grateful that I was able to make it this far!

I mostly use the reporting system to give myself an easy way to suspend accounts and instances in my admin interface, and also to poke fun at people like this, who are running an instance entirely based around theft. I'm sure he thinks I submitted it because I think he'll be banned but no haha I did that just to get under his skin

it should also be noted that this person is asking for money for typing sentences into bots that steal content from artists

What do yall think? Should I keep my instance and by extension keep paying them? Or move somewhere where I can be just a user and not paying upkeep on an instance
