since you don't seem to get it, so let's imagine if someone posted "wow these Ikea tables are really not working for me because <i have a disability and can't assemble / they are cheap garbage / the catalog has nothing in sizes that work in my tiny flat>" and then someone barges in like "well the problem could quite easily be solved by sourcing your own lumber from a sustainable supplier, then using the workshop you have in your garage, use a AX-789 table saw [discontinued in '78] and your Whatsit Brand jib [only available in South Africa] and your Mr. McDrill [4000 quid] and follow these schematics and spend 20 hours to build something that's just right for you."

There's an account follow-farming right now claiming to be a Palestinian journalist with ties to AlJazeera. Name searching pulls up real Instagram and YouTube profiles with a rather large following, but none of the contact methods (WhatsApp, Signal) either the BlueSky profile or the Mastodon profile mention are listed on the two seemingly real profiles. The account is spanging for the world's most vague fundraiser.
Please exercise appropriate caution when being approached for money as there are grifters and scammers aplenty out there.
I'm not naming names should I be wrong, but I am quite sure this is a scam, and, well, if you can't recognize it on your own, I'm not sure I can help you tbh.

A pet peeve is people misusing this alleged proverb (such as below) where it's made more and more explicit so that it can only be interpreted in a single way. And then is still presented as being the original proverb, with it being an old phrase giving gravitas to whatever hamfisted point the author is trying to make.
The actual proverb is "Ağaca balta vurmuşlar 'sapı bedenimden' demiş" which translates more accurately to "They hit the tree with an axe, and the tree said 'the handle is of my body.'"
There's so much going on in the world, and to post about this rather than anything else seems like a frivolity, but it grates on me because there is endless misinformation with no attribution floating around as if it were The Truth, and we should do everything we can to retain our tenuous grasp on reality.
"It's okay when I make things up because I'm the goodie who's deriding the baddie" is actually total dogshit. Stop.

If you want to break all your illusions about what it means to live and survive outdoors be it post-apocalyptic, part of a guerilla insurgency in the hills, seeking refuge after a disaster, or as part of a migratory journey, then please do a single three-day/two-night journey where you cross no civilized amenities between start and finish. Online and off, I see people speak about it with an air of casualness as if one can so simply walk away from society on a whim with little prep or practice. It is much more challenging than you think, especially the logistics of getting enough daily calories if you plan to be out for longer than a week.
I'm a hiker, not a survivalist, so I'm not even claiming to have this skillset, but having spent time living outside for weeks and months on end in a variety of conditions, I am acutely aware where my knowledge ends and how absolutely reliant I am on existing supply chains.
I suspect most people would have a rough time if power and water were cut off to their flats for a single week and they had to live off only what was presently in their flat. And with climate disasters, weak infrastructure from capitalist/neolib efficiency, "hybrid" war, and even ransomware hacker groups running amok, this too is more likely than most think.
I think about this a lot, and how media makes survival during hardship seem so easy (or when it's hard, it's just vague hardship symbolized by dirtiness and tiredness). In TLOU S2, I have booed and hissed at the comically insufficient amount of gear carried by the protagonists and antagonists for their journeys outdoors, and I wonder if the inadequacy (or the degree of it) registers for most. The only media I can think of (that wasn't explicitly about hiking, e.g., Wild) that seems to somewhat accurately capture the difficulty of traveling by foot and living outdoors was The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin (and maybe the two sequels too?).
This is an insomniac ramble, maybe better suited for a longer form essay somewhere where I can go into detail, but having been up for the last 3 hours, well, shit. This is what we got for now.

Got tear gassed or pepper sprayed?
1. Wash the affected area with plain water (*nothing else*) until symptoms subside.
2. When you get home, shower with the coldest water you can tolerate. Use lots of soap.
3. Pepper spray spreads. Don't touch your face. Be mindful where you put your contaminated clothes. Wash them on their own. Twice maybe if you got got real bad.
There's a few more things that can slightly improve upon this, but if you want the effective bare minimum, that's it.

Contentious and hostile opinion, but anarchists who are creating educational material or propaganda (books, zines, podcasts, etc.) and don't make all of it free and easily accessible to everyone are doing something very wrong.
There are many reasons, but one that really gets my goat is that there is, for better or worse, a clear scene or social milieu around the discussion of new and relevant topics. By not making it possible for everyone to participate, people are being kept out of "the room" and are less able to be "part of the conversation." Charging for access to topical material gatekeeps who else might be allowed to contribute to the discussion. It implicitly privileges those already in the know.
We want our ideas to spread, to be built upon, to replicate and evolve. Does keeping our ideas behind a paywall help with this?

Fascism is on the rise here. Meloni is a fascist. The still-rising AfD is fascist. Frontex has done horrible things to migrants from the SWANA region (have we forgotten Moira? the thuggish aggression of the so-called Libyan Coast Guard?). Hungary is openly anti-democratic and queer-phobic. The UK is viciously anti-trans. Our social democratic institutions are being gutted by the offspring of old labour parties. Even the most "wealthy" and "progressive" nordic/scandiavian States are virulently racist. We have a dozen monarchies.
We are hardly better. Stop patting yourself on the back and feeling smug. Fix the problems here.

Every time I log into Fedi, I see another post with a guide called something like "Activist's Guide to Smartphones" or "Phone Security Guide for Protesters," and every single one of these assumes that the threat model is the kind of police force that exists under liberal democracy where the law will afford significant protections to protesters. A lot of progressives and radicals in the US are making the mistake now of downplaying the utility of owning a firearm, many of which are saying it's better to learn first aid.
"I've never used a gun to take or protect a life, but I have used first aid."
Learn first aid, by all means please. Don't get a firearm (or knife or pepper spray or baton) if you can't learn to use it or doing so would be too risky to you. But looking at the past 20+ years of society and thinking those rules will apply under a rabid fascist regime if pure folly.
First aid can only be rendered if someone is there to drive the attackers away. If fascists jump you or start shooting at you, knowing how to bandage a grievous wound means very little if said fascists are still actively attacking.
"Not everyone needs to learn self-defense. That's what *community* self-defense means."
Not everyone can, but everyone who *is able* should learn the means of defending themselves and others. *You* are part of the community, and you too need to defend it. Deferring it to some nebulous third party (even if it's "antifa") is how you get warlords or are left with no one to protect you.
You (yes you personally) have some responsibility to learn to take care of yourself, be it disaster prep or self-defense, because if you aren't prepared, you become a burden on those who are. You become a drain on critical and limited resources. Yes, mutual aid exists, but we can stretch that much further and take better care of those who can't fully care for themselves if everyone who is able first takes care of themselves.
Don't get caught in a dangerous situation. Don't do so unarmed. Don't get injured. You have to learn all these skills. If you don't, it's okay. People will still be there for you. But please try.
