The whole idea that people cooperate because people are intrinsically selfish is more aphoristic, than it is reality.
Not saying that you shouldn't look over your shoulder to watch out for backstabbers, but the world is a lot more altruistic than cynics want to admit.

So, after stumbling upon drama from people trying to push women in tech…
I'm more and more beginning to think that people who complain about a lack of women in a panel of presenters are just doing this to stir up drama.
Which is sad, because it almost feels like it perpetuates harmful stereotypes about women in tech.
A self-fulfilling prophecy.

Debaters are a huge liability in my life.
They don't try to add value.
They just want to win, for themselves. A zero sum mentality.
They are the same groups of people who justify their behaviour on "low trait agreeableness".
Additionally, they justify their behaviour by stating how advantageous it is to be someone of "low agreeableness", and that everyone is missing out.
I'm not seeing it.
Not only are they a liability to me, but they seem to be a liability to themselves.

Shameless plug, but I built this UI for a dance choreography planning software that is entirely made of SVG.
So SVG isn't exclusively for static content, but also if you are to couple it with a highly efficient DOM diffing strategy, you can even build interactive software.

So, I've been reading up on quantum mechanics and the double slit experiment.
If I understand it correctly, the reason why attempting to measure which slit does a particle go through is because of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle: we can only either know the velocity or the position of a particle, but not both.
So in other words, when measuring which slit a particle goes through, we know the position, but we don't know the velocity. So, the interference pattern disappears, but the probability distribution of the velocity suddenly becomes unknown.
Does that sound right?

Speaking of housing, for a long time, people have been saying that real estate speculation is a good investing strategy.
Hell, people included their own primary residence as their investing strategy!
Why? Because a home will apparently outperform the US stock market in terms of total expected return.
Why no one thought that this is unsustainable is beyond me.

I will never vote for a politician who attacks the BoC for raising interest rates in the face of higher than 2% inflation rate.
The Bank of Canada has one job: keep inflation at 2%.
They only have one tool for the job: monetary policy, which includes the overnight lending rate.
Yelling at the Bank of Canada for interest rates is like yelling at a tree for having its leaves fall during autumn. They can't help it.
It's also the government's job to manage inflation rate, by keeping a close eye on the economy.
Several things that lead to inflation that we're seeing today:
- high housing costs
- supply-chain issues
- uncontrolled immigration, even in the face of inflation
Inflation doesn't only mean more money in circulation; it also means market can't meet demand.
So combined with supply-chain issues, red tapes behind housing starts, and high immigration all lead to the inflation that we are seeing today.
Governments should have been on top of this.

So there's this AI music-making platform, called Suno, which I talked about before.
But looking at the name, I was thinking "wait, are the founders South Asian?"
For the uninitiated: in many South Asian languages, a word homonymous to "suno" literally means "listen", in the imperative mood.
So I had to look it up, and Google lead me to this small thread on Hacker News, which confirms that Suno's name is derived from a South Asian word.
